Like I said, JR, a simple qualifying statement if you don't know would give the OP the appropriate weight to apply to your opinion. Again, I'm talking about people who post things routinely that are "flatly wrong," as if it were well-established fact. I understand.

Let's start this over, we don't gain anything by making comments about anyone or anything being one way or another. I'll agree that correct answers are best but what I find puzzling is this? if you are asking for help because you need a answer for a problem then how do you know for sure that any person is answering correctly if you aren't sure yourself?
While some may be voicing their opinion on what's wrong and may be wrong themselves it does accomplish something sometimes. Electrical is sometimes people's toughest challenge on these things we call scooters but I can tell you that sometimes the best and most knowledgable people miss the problem sometimes and with electrical the only way to find the trouble sometimes is by a process of elimination on what or what not might be wrong?
Generally speaking most people don't reply that they know what's wrong for sure but rather make educated guesses or references to the possibilities of what is wrong.
Some relate to a problem they may have had if it sounds the same, may hit it on the head and may miss the bus all together. Just be polite and move on if that suggestion isn't the problem.
Same with this thread we can disagree and be friendly at the same time.

Jr he stated he has .32vac for pulse , that looks to be on the low end . He has also mentioned a pop , I was looking to see if he poped the capactor in the cdi or if the ignition coil has arced internally . It is a wait and see here . John We don't know how fast the engine was turning over on this test and a 50cc will fire with as little as 0.10. JR

Yes hook one lead of the meter to the positive side of the battery and then hook the other lead to the green wire on the 2-plug of the CDI with the key on and the kill switch in the engine run position. If this is the kill wire and I think it is then you will read NO voltage if all is working correctly.
Now if you read no voltage with the things set as I said then turn the key off and then see if you read 12Vdc+. Remember the battery has go to have a charge.
If your reading is correct after the key switch test then turn the key back on and test the engine kill switch, if you again read 12Vdc+ then we know this is the CDI kill wire and it's not grounding out the CDI thus stopping the spark.
If you immediately have 12Vdc when doing this test on the things I mentioned then it's time to start finding out why and that's why you have no spark.

Got in late on this and labeled the CDI wires: The 3 plug is dead on and the two plug is easy enough to check and it is very common for the Chinese to change wire colors especially on the 50cc scooters. He said he had black/white at the kill switch and I have seen them take the black/white from the key ignition switch and the kill switch combine them and either go to the CDI with black or green. TV mentioned the way to test the green wire and he can do it by ohming it or with a test light also. He can test both the ignition switch and the kill switch with either a test light or multi-meter. We need to remember that if this wire is grounded out there will be no spark. With the key off it is automatically grounded out so it needs to be checked this way. (1) Turn the key switch to the on position (2) make sure kill switch is in the engine run position (3) test green wire with test light or multimeter with test light it should not light up and by ohms it should have no resistance. Should the test light come on or the meter read resistance then you have one or more of the following possibilities: (1) grounded out kill wire going to the CDI (2) bad ignition key switch (3) bad kill switch on the handlebars Should the green wire on the 2-plug test out then it is in the right place on the plug. The black or whatever color wire it is should be the AC feed wire from the stator and if it does indeed have 32Vac on it with the engine turning over it is correct and in the right place on the plug. I noticed the wires on the coil in your picture. Those spade connectors don't look like the common connectors the Chinese use, they look like a common one that you can buy at the auto parts? Has this scooters wiring been messed with or altered? The yellow/black is correct but the other wire should go to ground and it's unclear as to it's color in the picture? Need to trace this wire. JR

Yes, yes, all well and good. But besides all of that superfluous "mechanical stuff", what are your literary qualifications? Now that's funny Spandi in two ways. One the way you was kidding here and two reminds me of things I was told by someone at the same place of how I would never figure out how to put a forum together on any system and wasn't even smart enough to figure out how to put something in the news header. When I did I did strike out on my own needless to say I had a lot to learn on how to put a forum together but I learned a long time ago that if you don't know how to do something simply ask. By asking you will learn. Just like Doug mentioned about if it rolls he'll figure out how to fix it with no problems, it can be the same with me and all this computer stuff, if it'll turn on I'll figure out how to do it. I can remember the day that just looking at a computer made me think "no way" and now when I see something new or someone else doing it I'm all over it. Right now I'm working out the things and bugs out of Windows 8 I recently got and having no issues at all. There are also a lot more things to know about running a forum than just knowing how to fix everything that comes along. I've been a supervisor of some sort all the years I worked and there have been times I may have not known what to do in every instance but I was smart enough to put the right people in the right place that did and the job got done and that's all that mattered. Funny thing too is the one who made the statement that one time? It wasn't that long ago that they did ask just a question as this, "how do you change a spark plug?" And the one who told him how was the one who managed to build a scooter forum to tell him should he ever need to know again. JR

I'm sure most have noticed the standard smiley faces on the reply window have been changed and the what is called the extra smiley widow that you can click on and use the ones that are in there. Myself I've always liked smileys and love the ones that move or what some call emotocons. There are so many out there that it is mind boggling! In the reply window the smileys go from left to right as Smiley and end with cry. These are called the default settings and I cannot change them but Proboards does allow you to change the smiley itself to whatever you want. When I started changing the ones in the reply window I looked for ones that fit the default settings or close to them as you can see. The only one I haven't changed because I haven't found one about the same size is roll eyes. I tried to keep them all close to the default settings size so they wouldn't run to far out to the right and disappear. I have checked and so far it appears I cannot change the quick reply smileys as they are set on the system as a default setting and cannot be changed. I am looking in the Proboards code database to see if there is a code that will allow me to change them and have also asked the code support people to look into making a code. I hope all of you like the changes, it adds a little fun to me and for sure that's what we need a lot of right now. You can also see I found a code that allows for what is called a extra smiley window and allows you to pick any smiley in the window box selection. Now here is where the title of my thread kicks in. I wanted to ask members here to join in on the smiley search and what is in the window. Basically I chose ones that I thought would have an application on a scooter forum like smileys riding a scooter to lots of humorous ones as well. But I also added others that have a different meaning too but not offensive like: At this point I have 29 extra smileys in the extra smiley window or vault. How many can I put in? I'm not sure? It's possible that as many as we want and when the pop up window appears when you click on it one can just scroll down the page to look at them all or when I put so many in they will not appear if the window is too full? It's just something I'll have to see as we go along. At this point I've got 3 in the extra smiley window that match 3 of the reply window and for sure I'll change them, no use in having the same smiley twice. So here's what I'm proposing to all who want to have a favorite smiley added to the collection and even say if you don't want one that I already have there also. Post here some of the smileys you like and I'll see about putting them in but as always there are a few rules to go by, some as set here by the forum administration and some by the host site Proboards themselves. (1) Any possible smileys you want to see used here must and will only be used with the permission to use them a Proboards rule. One can go google any smiley and it may come up even with a code as a single smiley and the source may not be known and you would have no way of knowing if you have permission to use it or not? I clarified this rule with Proboards and asked about sites that offered "free" smiley and sent them this link to look at to give me an answer: www.pic4ever.com/index-6.phpThere are numerous sites like this and Proobards told me that sites like this were fine because they offer free for anyone to use and one would have permission to use them. So the word "free" will probably mean all is fine.(2) All smileys will be considered and when you find one of the ones you would like to see added send post the site and the link to the smiley, don't just post a link to a site and say fire breathing smiley on page 6. Most sites have a code that I use to put in this forums system that is a simple url code and some even give you a direct forum link to post the smiley here on the forum like this:The url is also listed for this smiley and it's on the same page and is this:www.pic4ever.com/images/tantrumsmiley.gifTo put these in I must have the url code and with the link to the location of your desired smiley and where to find it I'll get what I need to put it in.
Do not send HTML codes they do not work on this forum. (3) Do not send any offensive smileys. Offensive means profanity, adult, racist, or what might be considered insulting to ones beliefs with letters like or OMG (no offense meant) or even what might be considered rude like Shut up. You all get the picture, they will not be considered.
Sign smileys are welcome but again need to follow the rules. (4) I would like to also ask that you don't try to use smileys that are too large and take up lots of space and when asking for a sign smiley the smaller ones like some in the extra smiley window now work great like this: Got questions about a possible smiley then ask them here and we'll figure out if it'll work or not.
So if you want to put in your favorite then get them coming and we'll see how this goes. JR

99% of the time find a apples for apples harness and you can get into a real mess if you're not electrically inclined. Do you have and know how to use a multi-meter?

tvnacman- in the original post i specified I had just gotten a new regulator. and as for the switch, that should effect my horn and brake light not working. I took the entire wiring harness out today and opened it up exposing all of the individual wires which i traced every single place they go and found no sort of short. is there any other sort of thing that could have blown when I hooked up the battery backwards? You're asking about a diagram and you haven't even mentioned what scooter this is? I have a lot of diagrams and know a lot of Chinese circuits but this info helps a lot. Name the scooter and model and we'll figure it out. JR

other than all the above, just make sure you have a free flow air intake and exhaust, no limited CDI (put on center stand and see if the engine revs to ~10+k RPM's), and see if the bike has the correct jet size. Most of the time these bikes are running lean on high RPM's, and adding a larger main jet size, could get you more top end power, but could also drastically decrease MPG's. This does apply to carb scooters but again this is a EFI system and superior to a GY-6 carb setup and one doesn't dare mess with the airflow on this scooter. Again as mentioned this scooter already has a advanced timing system again superior to a GY-6 ignition system. CDI advance with buying a lot of the so called tunable CDI's in lots of cases is a waste of $$$ and does nothing for the engine, in some cases I've had people have problems starting their scooter with this type of CDI and it's because the CDI does not actually advance from a lower RPM when starting to a higher RPM when revving the engine. They have been making improvements with them and Tvnacman has a CDI that he has tested and knows it does work by his tests and Alley has also found a good one as well. For the most part these CDI's are for the people who race and are wanting to reach a high RPM quickly but high RPM's on the everyday wanting to ride scooter ends up being a short lived engine. The Standard CDI will accomplish all the top end the scooter was designed to do and do just fine. JR

Well actually a CVT belt that was a little longer might do it as a longer belt changes the gear ratio. That is a problem with the Chinese 250cc scooters a lot, as they may have more than one belt length that was used on the scooters. There can be a issue with having too tall of a gear ratio that takes the engine out of its best powerband which results in the engine not being able to pull the higher gear and thus it runs slower then. A good example is some guys putting on huge oversize wheels and tires on their 4x4 vehicle, but the engine doesn't have the power to pull the vehicle as it would with smaller wheels and tires. One other thought is altitude can affect performance. Someone in Denver, Colorado at 5,600 feet elevation is not going to be able to go as fast as someone in Los Angeles California at 200 feet elevation. As mentioned already most speed measurements for advertising are done at sea level and when weather conditions are ideal (tailwinds?). Also weight can be a big issue, a big heavy fellow will never go as fast as a small person on the same scooter. The sitting upgright will cause a lot more drag than being tucked down in a racing position. The rear tire being worn down can affect the top end as the tire's circumference gets more small as it wears down. Thus a new tire on the scooter can yield a higher top speed than when the tire is worn out. Then changing the variator weights was a mod some people did too. Using more light weights results in better acceleration around town but slows the top end down a little. Heavier weights can reduce accelleration but improve the top end a little more. The variator may not close up as much at high speed resulting in a lower gear ratio. This is actually a pretty common modification done to scooters for around town riding and where it is more hilly too. Then of course if the engine has 15000 miles on it and was poorly taken care of as well, it just may be worn and tired and not capable of going as fast as before. The compression could be a little less, valves leaking a little bit, et cetera. All these things you mentioned are right on Earl but the 150 Scooters have the belt difference too. One can put a 835 and a 842 on the long case 150 and even custom order a 846. But on the roller weight change one can actually get in the middle with slider and hold take off RPM's and gain top end at the same time just by their design, have done this on numerous scooters fro 50cc to my own 250's. Generally speaking one can drop one weight size from the original roller weight with sliders and never notice any change on take off and gain 1 to 3 MPH on tope end by changing to sliders alone. His altitude is just a little above sea level and this actually hurts him a little, best altitude range is about 1k to 1k above sea level. He did mention that he adjusted the valves and hopefully they are still seating well if not then he's losing compression some but most of the time even just a slightly poor seating valve has a very noticeable affect on the engine. It seems you are on the right track for sure and now that you are giving this scooter some good care hopefully it'll run for days to come. There are little things you can do to get 1 or 2 MPH here and there and they do add up. Since you seem to be on a solid threshold of 60 to 62 MPH I would say the scooter still has some spunk to it and as mentioned the poor PM in the past and the 15k in miles hasn't helped it.
The seafoam for sure will not cause any problems and is just another good PM thing for engines and will clean it up if there is any fuel residue. After that again a roller weight change may get a couple more MPH and even possibly a performance variator can help.
As I stated before this is a nice scooter, wish they sold them here.
