I should start by saying i blew my voltage regulator by accidentally hooking up battery wrong. I got a new regulator and now continuity checks out and everything seems fine. I have the battery hooked up and the scooter kick starts fine. The battery accessory fuse keeps blowing(10 amps) the dash lights are working. my headlights are working. The blinkers (front and back) break lights are not working. The break light however is not working, along with the horn. the light bulbs are fine so i went a step further and connected one blinker straight to a 12 v source and it illuminated fine. I cant figure out what could be wrong please help. Thanks,

tvnacman- in the original post i specified I had just gotten a new regulator. and as for the switch, that should effect my horn and brake light not working. I took the entire wiring harness out today and opened it up exposing all of the individual wires which i traced every single place they go and found no sort of short. is there any other sort of thing that could have blown when I hooked up the battery backwards?

Have you still got that harness out and available? I'd suggest an insulation resistance check on all of it, and earth resistance checks as well. If you're using the correctly rated fuses, and they keep blowing the circuit is drawing too much current, it'll probably be a short, but you might not necessarily be able to physically see it.

sounds like the main fuse is blowing , if so . Unplug your new regulator and see if it blows again .

You're asking about a diagram and you haven't even mentioned what scooter this is? I have a lot of diagrams and know a lot of Chinese circuits but this info helps a lot. Name the scooter and model and we'll figure it out. JR

If I just go ahead and get a new wiring harness will it save me a whole lot of time and frustration?

99% of the time find a apples for apples harness and you can get into a real mess if you're not electrically inclined. Do you have and know how to use a multi-meter?

I do and yes i have been using it a lot trying to figure this out, I did find that my voltage regulator needed to be replaced. I havent gone through the resistance in the wires yet. Also do you think it would be worth unplugging every component and hooking it up to the battery with a fuse and if the fuse doesn't blow, plug things back in one at a time to find it or do you think its in the wiring harness itself?

i say you may have blown the flasher relaytry disconnecting it and see if you blow your fuse if you have a spare light disconnect your neg battery cable and connect the light between the battery and cable if you have a short the light will glow then you can take each connect apart one at a time until the light goes out that will be what you need to find the short in the last curcuit

Just unplug the regulator and see if the fuse blows again . As just says it might be the flasher as well .

the regulator i ordered hasn't came in yet but i am currently working on another bike and took it off of that bike. (same specs). Also, how would you like me to hook up the circuit and test the lightbulb on the neg side of battery if the fuse blows, should i hook power straight to accessory wire with no fuse? and should i unplug things before i do that?
