OK! so i think i have made a little progress. i hooked up the battery and unhooked everything else that plugs into the harness. i checked and the red wire that goes to the voltage regulator is getting power. i did as justbuggin2 suggested and hooked a light between negative terminal and the scoots ground wire. I plugged everything in except for the gauge cluster and the voltage meter and everything was good the light was off. However, upon plugging in either the voltage regulator or the guage cluster the light illuminated. Does this mean i need a new regulator and a new gauge cluster? please say yes because i just want this over with ha.

What if you unplug the regulator ? Do you have a clock in the gauge cluster ?

If i unplug the regulator the light goes out and if i unplug the gauges the light goes out. I do have a clock in the gauge cluster and before any of this when i had the gauge cluster installed, it runs off the same power as headlights and taillights so it is on when scooter is fired up regardless of battery but the clock part was lit but had no numbers.

Can you unplug the clock, that is what is putting the light on. I bet the short is in the regulator .

when i first hooked up the battery wrong i did smell burning and I do know that i blew the voltage regulator because it created continuity from accessory wire to frame. could that smell have just been the regulator?
I did what you suggested and unhooked the clock, you were right no blinking. unfortunately i also found out some other things. I turned my key to the on position and when i engage blinkers the light will come on, (blinking actually) light will also come on when i engage horn button or pull the breaks.

The light your talking about is in line with the battery cable.? When the light is lit it is showing a draw . I bet if you leave the regulator unplugged, then put a new fuse in and connect everything your fuse will not blow. I bet it will even start.

keep in mind the regulator isn't plugged in at all. I will need to get some more fuses to test this but the light is in line with the ground frame wire to the negative battery terminal. negative battery terminal (-)------(light)----(scooter ground wire). and if i do install everything, will anything even work without the regulator connected? because i pretty much have that all setup now with no regulator installed and hooked to power and nothing works still.

Because your fuse is blown.

I know this isnt exactly good but i hooked it up with no fuse because i tested it under 10 amps, but nothing is working such as break lights and blinkers and electric start. and i know they all arent individually blown because i checked them

ok if you still have the light in line with the battery then the resistance is keeping everthing from working and it sounds like you may need to trace each wire to make sure the insulation has not melted and causing a short i would start at you gauge cluster and work from there

I have traced all of the wires. I even striped off the wire harness wrapping so i could individually follow every wire. I cant think of a reason why the blinkers, breaks and horn, (possible electric start) short it out. I understand the regulator being bad but i just dont know where to go from here.

ok with the light hook up the R/R unplug does the light glow if so then unhook one thing at a time see if the light goes out if the light stays on then reconnect it and do the next item so on until the light goes out the last curcuit that you disconnect has a short in it trace that curcuit to find your short

so what your saying is connect the R/R so the light illuminates (which it does) and then start unplugging things until it goes off? I don't believe that it will go off but i will go ahead and try that tomorrow. everything I have plugged in didnt make the light illuminate except for the R/R and then when i turned ignition key on, using the blinkers brakes and horn made it light up

So here is the latest update. I received the new voltage regulator in the mail. I hooked it up, along with everything else and the fuse did not blow and all the lights are working. However, upon pushing the electric start, the fuse blew again.

you starter solinoid is shorted . replace the fuse again and kick it started . measure the voltage across the battery . If you need I can get a solinoid out to you quickly .
