What is going on with all the motorcycle wrecks in the Atlanta area lately? Most all of them fatal. There has to be 6 or 8 people killed just in the last few weeks.

Go to an auto paint store with your VIN, and they can mix-up a color to match exactly. They can even put it into a spray can. You'll have options as to whether you want a hardener, high gloss, or standard.

It took me 1 1/2 years to finally get the title for my TaoTao. I bought it, in Georgia, from a Florida person, who's brother-in-law was actually making the sale, since the owner had returned to Florida. He was a Corps of Engineer campground host, never took it on the roadway, and hence had never titled it. When I bought it I got just the Certificate of Origin, which was in the owners name. The DMV would not accept that to title it. They wanted him to title it, in Florida and then sign it over to me. I then was told about a "Title Bond", about $50 from my insurance company. Then they wouldn't accept that because the scooter was too new, try again next June. So in July of last year I sent all the paperwork in again, and was again denied a title. So after asking for a supervisor, I was told to send it to the supervisor's attention, and 3 months later I finally got my title. At least they gave me a registration and tag before they denied the title application, and I was able to ride it.
So, the TaoTao with the Georgia title, I now keep and ride in Florida, and the Honda Reflex I bought and titled in Florida, I now keep and ride in Georgia. I probably ought to get that straightened out.

Armor

Happy to hear you're going to be gearing up. Another thing about Saftey gear is getting over black. I know its cool looking and has been the color of choice for bikers for years but it works against you. People dont see the guy in black well. HiVis. I know its the color of road workers everywhere. They wear it because they want to live and so should we. No it doesn't say "biker" like black does but you will be seen. Besides if you're concerned about being hot blacks the worst choice. My armored jacket is bright yellow with some black accent stripes, very visible, and in the Kroger parking lot today a woman looked straight at me and almost pulled right into me. She looked straight at me and still apparently didn't see me.

So far as I know, I've never had a problem with the CDI on my TaoTao. It has shut down on me a couple of times when running WOT for a while, and may have overheated it. Not sure if that was the CDI: or what. It started right up and got me home. Scared the bejesus out of me. I was way out in the boonies in Central Florida, east of Avon Park, where I probably had no cell service, and where my wife probably couldn't have found me anyway.

Armor

So after reading this yesterday i looked online for something that I might be able to feel comfortable in and is also in a sort of affordable price range and thought maybe I could wear something like this, UNDER a baggy t-shirt; www.revzilla.com/motocross/troy-lee-bp-7850-hot-weather-armored-shirtAlthough it does not protect elbow down, they have a long sleeve version too for the same price. I wonder though if it will look odd at all, or fit the shape of my upper body under a shirt. Does anyone own one of these? Ha ha, sorry but, when I saw that one I couldn't help thinking "Luke, I am your father".

Danno, get some of those padded bicycle shorts. If they work for riding those hard little bicycle seats they ought to be great on your Burgman.

Armor

It was the wreck that pushed me to the armor. Wearing a polo shirt, shorts and sandals, I laid the bike down, I locked the brakes up (I think), and was down and sliding, on my belly, in a heart beat. I got first and second degree road rash on both arms, and my right leg and some third degree on my knee, elbow and knuckles. In additon, I sprained my right shoulder, and my right hip/thigh was bruised down to my knee. That was 3 1/2 months ago, and I still have problem with my shoulder and my leg still looks nasty. And yes, I was picking asphalt out of my arm for weeks. I didn't think I needed to suit-up since I was just running up to the store. Where I had clothing, I didn't get road rash, although the asphalt rubbed holes in my denim shorts and shirt, and the large straps on my sandals mostly protected my feet, and got ripped off. I must have been a sight, because the ladies in the emergency room panicked, and expedited my treatment. I was in and out in less than an hour. And the worst part, I coulden't ride for a couple of months. I think the padding in the armor would have prevented the injuries to my shoulder and arms. It's right where I hit and slid. I think I'll wear my armor and at least blue jeans and solid shoes, hope I don't need them.

I've got an '05 Reflex Sport, and I love it. I've put close to 2,000 miles on it since I bought it this winter, and I've never had the plastic off of it. Big difference from my TaoTao. I wish the Sport model had the taller windshield and anti-lock brakes like yours. A problem I have is running down the road thinking, "Wow, that's a lot of wind" and then noticing I'm doing 70 mph. I don't know what top-end is on this bike, but it is not even breathing hard at 70.
I'm ok with the variator. It's not a rocket on take-off, but, still gets out ahead of traffic. I have to remember, but, I think it goes to 4500 - 5000 rpms before it picks up at about 45 mph.
Good luck with your new scoot. Just don't drop it like I did mine.

Aah, did you see the price of those things? Maybe if I was trying to ride in Arizona during the summer, but, that seems a little extreme for Georgia and Florida..

It seems like the metal bends, it's pretty thin stuff. It did help when I turned the rods so that they are as front to back as you can get them, so that the rod takes most of the load. I really couldn't get the bolts tight enough when the rods pointed to the side.

Armor

I finally bought an armored jacket, a used First Gear Mesh-Tex II jacket. It really seems like a quality product. The only problem with it is that it is missing the inner liner, but, I've got a nylon wind breaker that will probably do the same thing.
I've been concerned about not wearing something more substantial since I laid my scoot down in June, and got road rash and a sprained shoulder. Hopefully I'll never need the armor, but, then again, I didn't think I would need it before either.
I was concerned about the armor being hot, as I ride in Georgia and Florida, but, in my rides so far, the mesh in the jacket seems to "breathe" pretty well. I guess it could get warm when stopped at a long traffic light.
I think the armor would have really save me a lot of issues.
