I don't think I need to do a valve adjustment. My china scooter is running fine and doesent lose any power at idle.

Thanks for the help everyone. Since my Scooter is actually starting and idling very well right now, I don't have to do a valve adjustment right now, am i correct?
Should I do a valve adjustment anyways? There are no idling or starting problems

Hi guys, I was just wondering how Often valve adjustments should be done. I have a 150cc Chinese scooter that is approaching the 1000 mile mark. What are the symptoms that a valve adjustment needs to be done?
Also, can someone explain to me why a valve adjustment must be done and the purpose of doing a valve adjustment?
Thank you

Yeah I figured using different oils would cause a mess. I typed in the question using Google but there were a lot of answers that said it didn't matter if you use different types of oil together.. Hmmm

I have a Vespa GTS 250. The other day, I made the mistake of buying 20 W – 50 engine oil. My Vespa calls for 5W – 40 engine oil. i added the 20 W – 50 into it, and it looks like I didn't have enough in the bottle so I also added some 15 W – 40 engine oil in there as well. Is this going to cause any damage?
Also, is it okay to use a combination of synthetic, semisynthetic, and regular oil mixed together? What will happen?

Hi guys, Just wondering if anyone had suggestions. I am trying to make this 1989 scooter start. I know its probably 3 things: a bad spark plug, a bad carburator, or a bad valve adjustment. Could a clogged fuel valve also be the case? It will not start, and I do not know how to get to the carburator to clean it and make a valve adjustment. The guy sent me these pictures. Does anyone know about these older models and how to make them start? The scooter has about 8,000 miles on it. EDIT: He also told me "When you step on the brake, the safety switch clicks off the motor. If you don't step on the brake the scooter won't start."

Yeah, that sounds like my seller too. Every time something goes wrong on my scooter I told him about it and they send me free parts :-) Did you buy your scooter from Powersports Max?
I'm really sorry about that case though. Only 900 miles and it's already cracked

I'm really sorry to hear that man. Could you possibly get the company to issue you a new one for free, since it is a manufacturer defect? I'm pretty sure scooters don't break like that.

How did you blow and crack the engine? Were you just riding extremely hard on it, or was it a large bump? What is the cause of that cracked engine? I am very curious to know.

Oil Leak

Ok, I think I fixed it, at least temporarily. I applied cleaned both sides, the valve and the engine part, applied silicone gasket maker and tightened all bolts evenly. I took it for a ride, and it seemed to not leak anymore. There is still a bit of residual oil that I did not manage to wipe off. I will do a series of more tests in the future and my new gasket should be coming this Friday. I will keep you all updated of the progress. Here are the pictures. The first one is a bottom view of my valve cover with the applied and dried silicone gasket maker. mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/u/0/?ui=2&ik=858c9b549f&view=att&th=141de573ccbe8005&attid=0.1&disp=inline&realattid=80b870a0027b990d_0.1&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P9T4ZySYOD35ZtTdQMv4kaL&sadet=1382414799812&sads=cWPmuool5LvvxGgVdKQaRe422LgThe second is another view of the valve by the exhaust. Oil was slowly leaking from the RIGHT gasket between the two bolts. You can see the residual oil on it. Very hard to wipe completely off, but it seems to have halted leaking so much. Again, I will take it for a longer ride tomorrow and see if the leak has increased, and that it's not just residual oil. 4 months ago, those two exhaust bolts in the center came loose and the scooter got loud all of a sudden. I contacted the manufacturer and they sent me the bolts as well as the new gasket. After replacing them with lock washers and a little bit of loctite, and installing the new gasket, it runs quiet as before. mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/u/0/?ui=2&ik=858c9b549f&view=att&th=141de573ccbe8005&attid=0.2&disp=inline&realattid=a5fa3f23c615d33_0.1&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P9T4ZySYOD35ZtTdQMv4kaL&sadet=1382414848197&sads=PPTkIRGX08WbD5E8RWfH2xwr39ELast, but not least, here is a very clear picture of where a lot of the oil has been coming from. mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/u/0/?ui=2&ik=858c9b549f&view=att&th=141de573ccbe8005&attid=0.3&disp=inline&realattid=274e929ed2ded2bd_0.1&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P9T4ZySYOD35ZtTdQMv4kaL&sadet=1382415102559&sads=9jfVFhBoDgXEgwGW4YMLLb7jYMUI hope this information helps anyone who is stuck on this issue also. As always, I will update this thread if necessary to share more information -Kevin EDIT: As someone mentioned earlier, the wind and vibration can move the oil to places where it is not leaking from, so you need to be aware of this too.

Thanks for your help guys. I am % sure that the oil leak is just from a squished gasket. Once I get the part and install it, it should be fixed. I'll get the part in about a week and I'll let you guys know then. Thanks also for the tip about not tightening the bolts to hard

Oil Leak

Hi everyone, I am trying to fix this oil leak coming from near my engine and valve cover. My scooter is a Jonway YYT150-3. It only has 630 miles on it. Since it was new, I used dino regular non-synthetic oil. 2 days ago, I changed my oil and used semi-synthetic oil. As I finished changing the oil, I was curious to see what a valve adjustment looked like. So I removed the body panel and the seat and unscrewed the bolts and saw the inside of the GY6 engine. I was fascinated. After looking at it for a bit, I screwed the valve cover back on. After reassembling the body panels and screwing the seat back on, I hopped on and traveled a bit. As I approached a store, I put the scooter on its main stand, and to my surprise, oil was dripping slowly near the engine/valve cover. I quickly hurried back home to try to fix this problem. After doing careful research, I have come to suspect that the valve cover gasket somehow got warped when tightening the valve cover back on and now oil is dripping when I ride. When I let the scooter sit still, no oil will leak, but when I go for a ride, oil will slowly drip out. I researched and saw that RTV silicone gasket maker could be a viable option. So today, I applied RTV silicone gasket maker between the valve body and the valve cover. I let it dry for a few hours, and it looked pretty dry. I decided to take it for a test ride, and it was still leaking oil on the underside of the engine. The places that I put the silicone gasket seal did not seem to leak, but the oil is leaking elsewhere. I am wondering where exactly its leaking from. It can't possibly be anywhere else but between the valve cover, since I didn't mess around with anything else except the valve cover. So, my conclusion is to get a replacement valve cover gasket. Once I install that, and (hopefully) fix the problem, I will post again and let you all know what worked to fix this oil leak. The oil slowly drips from underneath the engine when I looked underneath. I have contacted the parts/service guys and they should be sending me a replacement valve cover gasket in about 1 week. Any advice or similar issues? Where else could the oil leak be coming from? I checked all my fuel lines and other lines and did not seem to see any oil dripping. Pictures would be helpful. Below is the image of a perfectly new valve cover gasket. The second image is the picture of my valve cover gasket, which looks smooshed in. Below is what mine looks like
