It's not a ground issue if the bike runs. Check the connections first, then if you haven't found the issue, use a continuity tester ($5) to test each wire in the lighting system.

Stuff a rag in the hole, then scrape it clean. Gooey gasket gunk is not something you want!

I love the ride! I enjoy it every day, each ride is a mini adventure. I love the money I save(d), I have 5500 miles on my 150cc, and have spent a total of less than $2500, purchase + tax + 2 years registration + 2 years insurance + master cylinder + oil changes + gas. I love twist & go simplicity. I love being able to fix anything cheap and easy.
I hate the vulnerability inherent in riding a motor on two wheels. Always having to be hyper aware isn't the issue, I hate the idiots that require my vigilance. The idiots who pull out in front of me, the jerks who floor their accelerator to catch up and pass me just because a scooter took off faster than them, the peripherally impaired who never check their blindspots before cutting me off.
My SSR 150 with 16" wheels is based on the People design. I ride it a short 6 miles on the freeway on my commute with no problems keeping up with the slow lane, and the 16" wheels have eliminated my fear of manhole covers and small bumps, and my back side appreciates it! Best $1500 I ever spent!

No, a 24mm carb will be too large. Stick with 20 and jet it propely.

Now I am scared I have damaged my crankshaft. I do not have torque wrenches. I am a backyard warrior. I suppose I need to get some, but where do I find the information on proper torque settings for clutch and variator nuts on Chinese 50cc scoots? I just set my impact on the lowest torque setting, which is "1", it goes to 3. That has always held the nut on. I would not worry, the main damage you could cause would be stripping the threads on the end of the shaft. The possibility of damage to the rest of the crank comes from actually spinning the crank a bunch with the impact.

I just noticed you have the stock CDI due to kickback. Believe it or not, stock CDIs are advanced, just not as much as performance ones. Now tvnacman has an advancing angle CDI that starts out not advanced, then advances as rpms increase. Helped with mine and several other's hard starting bbk issues.

Sym builds most of its scooters and motorcycles in Vietnam, second most in Taiwan, then China: www.sym-global.com/profile#a3(scroll down to bottom) Kymco has production facilities in Taiwan and Indonesia: www.kymco.com/about/production_quality_control.aspIt's a global economy, nothing with complex parts is manufactured in a single country anymore. The companies that form strong partnerships, and maintain QC across borders, are the ones that succeed these days.

I would re-check the valves.
Have you tried restricting the air intake, and de-restricting as well. This can help determine if the pilot jet size is right. How many turns out us your a/f mixture screw?
Did you increase your wire size to the new starter? The ground strap as well?

I agree with onewheeldrive's advice. A worn belt can make you lose power/speed. Valves tighten up over time, making for hard starts and a loss of power, and if really tight can cause a loss of compression. 2400 miles is right in the range of mileage for a valve adjustment on a gy6.

Do you have 12-13" wheels? I'm wondering if you have the right belt.

If anyone wants it, I have one of the universal windshields with two pieces of plastic, minus the rearview mirror mounting brackets, they were on the yellow scooter when it got stolen. You can have it for shipping costs.

Thanks cyborg! One thing I should make clear to anyone interested in this model. It can reach over 75 mph, but it cruises mostly 60-65 if there are hills or headwinds, so it's really only safe for short highway runs with slow lane traffic going no more than 65.
I do plan on scamping this summer, so I'll find out then how it handles long back road rides at mostly 50-60mph.
