Hello everyone,

I've got a Taotao50 Vetas-50 with a Gy6 engine and whatnot, and I have virtually no mechanical skills. Bike has 2500 km on it, 4 oil changes, and one gear oil change. Searching for this problem has gotten me a variety of answers and I have no idea where to get started. I've lost about 10mph off my top speed (was previously getting 30-40mph most days). I thought it was because I had overfilled the oil and sloshed the air filter, but some local mechanics helped clean my air filter after that, so it doesn't seem to be the problem...?

Just looking for thoughts, because y'all seem like the people to go to. Please let me know if you need more info.

Clean carb:

Check the CVT/Belt:

Maybe you got some bad gas. What oil did you put in? Are there any other symptoms other than just loss of top speed??

Mainly loss of top speed. Before the oil change, it would turn off at lights (just putter out), and sometimes the standard headlight (not the one that turns on when you have the ignition set to on, but the one that comes up when you start the scoot) would not turn on when you started it (I just used highbeams while that was the problem, for night driving). I changed the oil the first morning after I topped out at about 25mph. Now, it's just the lower top speed. I just had a of a time starting it (had to use the kickstart) this morning, but it's also been sitting for 5 days...

I can't think of anything else. I'll try cleaning the carb.

Oil was Castrol Syntec SAE 10w-30.

I agree with onewheeldrive's advice.

A worn belt can make you lose power/speed.

Valves tighten up over time, making for hard starts and a loss of power, and if really tight can cause a loss of compression. 2400 miles is right in the range of mileage for a valve adjustment on a gy6.
