I was communicating with "a scooter dealer/importer" today via e-mail, and was told that Lance scooters is out-of-business, and that BMS "isn't importing scooters anymore". Has anyone heard this? Is this true, or a bunch of BS?

China is going thru an economic crash right now and it very well be correct ,, But, that's only been like a week... I was just in Tropical Scooters in Vero Beach - a Kymco and Lance dealer - on Tuesday (had to do the courier route again, and stopped in) - no mention that 1/2 of their product line was done...

China has been in economic turmoil since last summer,,, and I almost bought a house there a few years ago thank goodness I didn't ,, that would have been a disaster

Paladin,
Thanks for the info! I did NOT know Lance was made in Taiwan by SYM. Have a BONE!
When I bought my old Kymco Grandvista, I got somewhat fascinated by the SYM scooters. My dealer is a Kymco/SYM/Genuine-Buddy/Stella retailer. Thing is, you just never see a SYM scooter. Even the dealer seldom has more than one in stock.
The SYM brand seems to be sort of a Taiwanese "cousin" to Kymco, and the few I've seen are VERY nice, and solid quality. But they're as rare as honest politicians around this area... LOL!
My dealer, "MOXIE SCOOTERS" has been great to work with and I highly recommend them to anyone in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. From what I've seen, his biggest sellers are the Kymco line. They have a rep for being trouble-free, seldom coming back for warranty work, and the SYM line are the same... Just very FEW of 'em around...
Funny "factoid": I asked how "SYM" is actually pronounced, and was told it depends on who you contact at the home office... One will say it's "Sim" and another says it's the letters: "ESS-WYE-EM"... At least the moniker "Kymco" is easier to say than "Kwang Yang Motor Company"... LOL!
Anyway, I'd think any scoot made by SYM would be a good one!
Leo (mighty happy with the long-term durability of Taiwanese scoots) in Texas

FWIW, the Lance/Kymco dealer in Vero Beach said that Lance has its scooters built in China with parts from SYM at Lance's own factory - supposedly, the Kymco Agility 125 is also built in China...

Sym builds most of its scooters and motorcycles in Vietnam, second most in Taiwan, then China: www.sym-global.com/profile#a3(scroll down to bottom) Kymco has production facilities in Taiwan and Indonesia: www.kymco.com/about/production_quality_control.aspIt's a global economy, nothing with complex parts is manufactured in a single country anymore. The companies that form strong partnerships, and maintain QC across borders, are the ones that succeed these days.

Lance dumped Znen back in 2009 and became the West Cost SYM Distributor. They have been redefining their product line since then over the past seven years however they still do not have anything over 150cc. Everything uses the SYM Ceramic Engine Technology. Briggs and Straton however was probably the earliest adapter of that infusing Silicon Ceramics into the Aluminum they cast their Kool Bore Engines from.
I can see the Cali Classic appealing to Leo or the similar Havana both of which appear based on the Boat Tailed Vintage:
PCH is interesting:
Cabo looks nice if you go off the beaten trail a lot although it is not truly an off road bike, still for riding in the country where there are chip or dirt roads it could be a very good choice:
The need to bring on at least one 300cc bike.

Rockynv,
Oh YEAH! You've got MY number... HeHeHe...
I LOVE the cosmetics of the CALI! The Harley-Sportster bars, tin-can headlight, analog Euro-gauges, matte-charcoal paint, tasteful dark-brown leather-look seat... All it's missing are red rims and whitewalls... Oh, and 200 more cc's... LOL!
59 mph on 125 cc IS pretty impressive though, AND it doesn't cost an arm a leg. Certainly a TOP choice for the rider wanting a really sweet 150-class scoot! I'd think it might even appeal to the die-hard Vespa maven.
Looks like LANCE is a brand for the 150 rider to REALLY check out!
Thanks for posting! Have a bone!
Leo
PS: All three scoots are highly appealing. The "Cabo" is really "pseudo-military-cool". Might be a good alternative choice to the Ruckus, and competition for the Genuine Buddy "Hooligan". Sort of "sport-rat"... LOL! Cool! Is there such a thing as SPORT-RAT? Or is THAT an OXYMORON?

They show the Cali 150 with White Walls: If it was not for the Znen part of the equasion dealing with Lance was pretty good. The service tech who answered the phones and emails really seemed to care about the customers and was always pleasant and helpfull. When you own a Lance parts are just a phone call or email away. Owners manuals are available for download in PDF format so you can check out what your getting into before you buy. The only negative to me is the 620 miles between oil changes. If they could bring them in with a real oil filter with at least 3,000 miles scheduled between oil changes then I feel that they would be one of the better 150's out there and if the beefed them up to having a shock and rear spring on both sides of the bike then they would be amount the best.

Leo I had the Znen version and yes I liked it and would probably have kept it if it were a solid reliable bike. If I had gotten the SYM version instead I might still be riding it.
