Hi,
My Scooter is a SYM 125cc.
I'm going to replace my Intake manifold, and i also have a new Intake manifold gasket (paper gasket).
A while ago when i took out the Intake manifold, i noticed that some of the manifold paper gasket got stuck to the plastic spacer. The paper gasket is still complete on the engine head but maybe the thickness is not like a new one.
Removing the old paper gakset is almost impossible now with the engine shroud over the engine head, and also the gasket is really stuck on the head. I'm afraid to try and scraping it, as something may fall inside the head, or that i will not be able to scrape all of it.
Can i just put the new Paper gasket over the old gasket? Will i have an air leak?
Thank you.

Put some of that red silicone gasket maker on the head to even out the area, would be my solution.
You can take the top piece of the shroud off, to give you room to work. I would think some of that red silicone gasket maker will work.

Stuff a rag in the hole, then scrape it clean. Gooey gasket gunk is not something you want!

Thank you for the reply. Problem with the engine shroud in this scooter, that it is opening to the sides and not to top and bottom. I don't see a way to remove the engine shroud without removing the engine, but i could be wrong. I have a silicone of a company called victor reinz, REINZOSIL. www.reinz-industrial.com/EN/PRODUCTS/Sealing-Compounds/REINZOSIL.aspx I thought maybe put a thin layer of that. Do you think this silicone will be good? Thanks.

If you read the data sheet on that product, you'll see it says to remove all old gasket material before applying.

If the gasket maker says to remove all gasket material before using, then you need to remove it. You can remove the shroud. There are screws and bolts you can take out to separate the 2 peices. Just separate them enough to give yourself enough room to stuff a rag in there and scrape it off.

Thank you. I didn't notice it says to remove old gasket before using this silicone.
I'll try to move the engine shroud, and scrape that old gasket.
