But the video doesn't show the entire story only what they did. I have read reports from other newspapers that the car had hit one of the bikers way befor you see it in the video . When he hit the biker they went to chase and that's when you see the video start . The guy stopping I front of the SUV in the beginning of the video is when they first pulled him over after he hit another biker in the first place . How many times has a cager threatened your life with them not looking were they are going ? My ex was going to collage on her honda cb400 once and a car load of ditsy blondes pulled out I front of her causeing her to wreck and total the bike . The ditsy blondes we like ."...oops so sorry we didn't see you ha ha ha ..." And sped away . I have had close calls myself and I have been to many biker rallies and ridden in pacs and have seen to many times the stupid cagers dont even bother to look or claim they didn't see you . Lost a couple friends that way too. Is it right what they did .....well I won't say yes or no but I have been in that situation to often and yes in the old days that happened several times . This isn't anything new ....happened all the time back in the day .....group out for a ride some jack hole causes them to wreck or runs one down and speeds away ...bikers gave chase and took care of business . Hmmm..."some jack hole causes them to wreck or runs one down and speeds away... bikers gave chase and took care of business" Took care of business??" Purposely slowing down inches in front of the SUV is not "Taking care of business" When they pulled the man out of his car and assaulted him, is not "taking care of business". What they did was a crime and not "business"

"What you shouldn't do when behind a group of motorcycles"
The odds of this happening to anyone here are extremely small. That being said, what should one do when behind a group of motorcycles?
1-Keep your distance 2-If threatened, don't take the exit ramp onto the streets. You're sure to have to stopped at some point.
Overall, this was a very sad and sick thing to watch

I think you handled it right too. From what you've posted, the policeman seemed more interested in your bike than the speed he said you were doing. He didn't ask any of the typical questions that would have you admit to your guilt. (He may have, perhaps you just didn't post that detail)
I've haven't been pulled over in a long time, so I've never had the opportunity to follow the advice of these videos. But, I think it can be done in a respectful way. If the policeman were to asked me any question that are designed to have me incriminate myself of the infraction...I'd simply say, officer, I mean no disrespect to you personally or to the job you're doing , but, I have a greater respect for the Constitutions of the US, where it says I have a Constitutional right not answer questions where I might incriminate myself.

I once thought being nice to the police was the best strategy if i was hoping for "just a warning" I no longer believe that. I've always been friendly to the police, probably because my dad was NYPD for over 20 years. I once thought they had your best interest in mind....you know.."Protect and to Serve." Most people are terrified when the police pull them over. MOST WILLINGLY GIVE UP THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS, because they believe they have no choice but to do exactly what the policeman say , and you'll have no problems. Especially if you have nothing to hide, which most don't. So you believe you have nothing to lose.
The police will ask you questions to get YOU to admit you did something wrong.
Do you know the speed limit? Do you know you were speeding. Once they get a compiling answer from you, they now have "probable cause' to continue. Never consent to searches. Never consent to being detained.
THE POLICE CAN LEGALLY LIE TO YOU
Plan on going to court to fight the ticket. The policeman was not able to show me I did anything wrong. I maintained my 5th Amendment rights. Hopefully the policeman who gave you the ticket will not show up in court...perhaps its his day off. No officer means the ticket will be dropped.
Here's a You Tube with many good suggestions

Tires

Admittedly rhetorical question, If the age of the tire is so important, which I believe it is, why do the manufacturers, and DOT make it so you have to cypher the code to determine the date. Why isn't it clearly identified on the tires? The DOT makes it so you have to "cypher the code to determine the date?" The last four digits represent the week and year the tire was manufactured. It's pretty simple How would you suggest they come up with a better system? Just wondering

One other layer of security you might want to consider is covering your bike. It's not for the lazy but it adds imo another layer of preventing the bike from being stolen.Securing a bike works best if you use many layers of security. It's my personal opinion it starts with covering your bike. A would-be thief, imo first gets a temptation to steal your bike on the way it looks. If he thinks it's worth the risk he'd might decide to act on the temptation. If he's unable to see the bike, the chances of he being tempted isn't totally eliminated, because he might be around when you're on it. But, it drastically reduces the chances of him seeing it parked all by itself and being tempted at that point. The other layers are good lock and chain and an alarm such as the one Spandi or jerryscript recommended.
The best lock I've come across is the Abloy 362 and the best chain is the Almax Immobiliser 19mm Chain. These things however, are so heavy, they may not be practical to ride around with.

Tires

Of course I have. I have also seen ten year old tires I would use in a second! I judge tires by CONDITION, not some arbitrary age. One tire on my Jeep in 9 years old, and you could NOT tell which one without checking the date codes! Was your check done by inspecting the inside of the tire?

I just discovered by looking at the videos all posted on You tube and found that they were all done in 2009. Over four years ago and I searched long and hard and haven't found another Public Safety Warning as they called it since? Seems like a dealer here on this thread mentioned something about the Chinese coming a long way in the last few years? I also remember the market being flooded in 08 and 09 with Chinese scooters due to the $4 a gallon gas hike. Seems POC has went silent since then? JR So now we have the context of 4 years ago....would you now say he was telling the truth?

Also I'm not putting anything on trial, just simply saying that I don't believe all his claims. Didn't say he was lying, said he didn't support his claims. Ya see....if you don't believe him, that means he's LYING. You're speaking from two sides of your mouth JR. One side says "I don't believe all his claims" the others side says..."didn't say he was lying" If you don't believe his claims, that would mean he's not telling us the truth. What he was stating were facts. There are 600 miles on the bike.....That's either true or it isn't. You can't say you don't believe him....then add, I didn't say he was lying. If there weren't 600 miles on it, he'd know it...and when he purposely told us there was 600.,....that would be a lie....there is no other option. You have no proof he is lying, your assuming he is because it's what you want to believe. Me? I see a guy trying to run an honest business trying to prevent people from buying junk. I don't think he's trying to hoodwink the public....Not a good way to stay in business very long. That's not what I asked you. I asked you if it were the same company? Iow, did the same manufacturer off the same assembly line produced both bikes? I ride a Burgman. Do they have a history of issues like the Chinese bikes do? You have to assume he was riding it with no oil. My assumption is the bike was not riding right so he took it to a mechanic. So you don't have an issue with a new bike owner finding out he/she has no oil in the bike after 600 miles? Did that front end look normal to you? I believe him because if what he said weren't true this video would be a hoax...That's not how someone stays in business....If you're a fraud, you will be found out...eventually. I believe the guy took the time to ,make the video to educate the unknowing public about certain scooters. Your objection was why wasn't he more detailed? This wasn't a transmission training video. Now you're telling me you agree with me on that. It was a video designed to get NEW CONSUMER....the undereducated consumer....more educated about certain types of scooters. Iow..it was a buyer beware video. There was no need to be so detailed. Your experience with Chinese bikes can't relate to what this guy is saying, so you don't believe him. Remember your own words...there are two side to every coin.....his experiences are not your experiences. His different experiences with these bikes doesn't make him a liar, which you're assuming he is.

So you're assuming the guy is lying. You don't believe his claims. No I'm saying he could have easily shown us his claims on the video, how hard is it to video a bearing with one inch of slack? No? So you don't think he's lying? On one side of your mouth you're saying you don't know...on the other side you're saying he's acting as if he's lying.....because he doesn't shoe support what he said...as if he's on trial. He could have chosen to do a whole lot of things on the video, but he didn't. Based on the the information he gave us, one can either believe he's telling the truth or he's lying...What is your opinion? Remember two sides of the coin. Again we know nothing of the rider, his mechanical skills, how he has treated the scooter, even if he has done any PM? Most people change the oils at least at the 500 mile mark, which even in the bad Chinese manuals is recommended, so would not any responsible owner have seen that the rear axle had trouble or possibly no oil? Let's say he/she had little mechanical skills. Perhaps could change the engine oil and filter...nothing too technical. This bike had only 600 miles in it. (That is unless you think he's lying)Why would any reasonable person think the bike lost all its transmission oil after just 600 miles? I don't get that? That's not reasonable. Common sense says he didn't keep riding it, he/she brought the bike to a trained mechanic to fix . Not supported by anything? If the guy has been in business for years he has his reputation that supports him. His name is all over the video. Why would he risk making this whole thing up and perhaps ruin his reputation? The guy comes across sincere to me. He's trying to warn people who are new to the market. Perhaps if he were making a video on how to fix the transmission.....he would have been that detailed. But, he wasn't doing that. His audience wasn't mechanics trying to learn how to fix the transmission.....it was NEW consumers to scooters.People with little knowledge of what going on. You're acting like you DON'T WANT TO BELIEVE HIM. Then coming up with excuses why you don't. There's no doubt he wants people to buy from him and not the guy who sold this owner this lemon of a bike. That's just good business...you act as if its a crime! I see a guy who concerned with the shotty craftmanship of some Chinese bikes and he wants to educate the public. Heck if he had bad character, he's take these bikes in all day long....they probably make him lots of money on the repairs work. . Made by the same company? After 600 miles one should not expect to discover there's no transmission oil, among the other issues. Your answer is "no" to the question...BUT, everything else you said tells me you think he's lying... Since there is no support for what he said...he must have purposely left it out to hide the truth. That's your line of reasoning. That's absurd.

If you want to gamble with your life perhaps... If you are one that is new to scooters and you're not sure which direction to go and want to avoid being ripped off, then educate yourself. Some Chinese clones can be very DANGEROUS. Don't ignore these video's, learn from them before making any decisions on how to best spend your money. It's true, up front one can save hundreds of dollars buying Chinese clones. However, if you're not mechanically inclined, those saving will be passed on to your local mechanic who will happily take your money. That is if you can find one within 50 miles of your home. Then you have to figure out if you can trust his work and prices. All hype by a B&M dealer making a sales pitch. Every single item he described was pure lack of PM by a either not knowing or lack of effort by the person who owned the scooter. I have 4 scooters 3 with alarms no battery issue and one can have a weak or dead battery even on a auto if the battery is poor quality, the vehicle is not ran much or the battery is very old. Example, I have very good quality marine batteries on my camper and boat. But I keep a solar charger on them for times of periods when I don't use them. If his battery is dead overnight, it's a poor battery and if the scooter isn't charging it's still his lack of an easy fix. Just like this guy who is putting on a show about these scooters if you do nothing to keep a machine maintained and PM'd it'll go down sooner or later. Also all the hype about neglecting name brand things and it running longer? So what about the name brand scooters that even built elsewhere that have Chinese parts? Do the people who make the parts in China make better parts for them? Also this is sad to say but about 4 weeks ago I put a new back tire on my wife's 250 because the one on it was worn out. When I removed the back swing arm I noticed the axle bearing had the seal missing on the inside and was collecting dirt, not a good thing. This is a common 6303 size bearing, used tons of them through out my working career on various things. Went to town with the intent of buying a better non-Chinese bearing, went to Napa, Crow Burlingame, and O'reilly. Napa had three brands of this bearing and the other two had two. Guess what? It still has a Chinese bearing on it. I'm sure there is a American made bearing but after 3 parts stores I got tired of the search. Dangerous? Dangerous is people who buy stuff they know nothing about, don't have the willingness or attitude to learn, or want to blame other people for their lack of desire to do any of the above IMO. JR Thanks JR Let me make several points.... All Hype from a salesman? Really? The first bike he showed was the clone of the Kymco Corbra. It had only 600 miles on it. He told us of some serious issues with the bike...you did mention one of them in your response. Now either this person is telling us the truth or his lying. Which do you believe? If he’s telling us the truth, isn’t it his job to inform the public what sort of bikes are out in the market? Of course it is. It’s just not a sales pitch, the guy is not comfortable selling these sort of bikes in his dealership. Obviously another dealer had no problem with selling it. With 600 miles on the OD, there was no oil in the front shocks and there was about an inch play in the steering bearings. The rear axle is bent which eventually caused the transmission oil to totally leak out. With no transmission oil the back end stands a good chance to lock up. If the rider is moving down the road at 45mph…and the bike locks up that could be deadly. Yes this bike was a very dangerous bike to ride. You failed to mention any of these issues in your post…these were very serious issues…you did however mention the less serious issue……the battery. Why did you ignore those serious issues? Just wondering. According to you this was a pure lack of PM by a either not knowing or lack of effort by the person who owned the scooter? You make it sound like the buyer should expect these issues after 600 miles and it’s up to them to get out the wrench and prevent them from occurring! Really? After only 600 miles? . The 2nd bike had whopping 81 miles on it. It had a CDI failure, a brake failure, a throttle cable tube failure. The bike had corrosion all over it. After 81 miles, the buyer did something wrong? Let me ask you…do you approve of the way the Chinese market “anti-lock brakes?” They use a valve to halve the brake pressure to the front wheels. It prevents the brakes from locking up the tires. It does do that. BUT, How would you like to be riding this bike in a panic situation and only being able to have half your front brakes? By design! The third bike was a 150 with drum brakes. Do you think drum brakes can be reliable to stop a 150 cc bike? I would very much like to hear your opinion on some of the questions I’ve asked. Do you think the guy is lying? Doesn’t he not have an interest to inform the public of what he’s observed with these Chinese bikes? Should customers expect to pay $1-$2,000 for a NEW bike and do all sorts of mechanical work on it before its road worthy? Why did you ignore in your post the very serious issues of the first bike? I look forward to your response. Danno Which do you believe?
I believe what I see and not told by someone who has made these claims. I watched the first video, a man obviously sitting downtown on a street with a big logo/banner on his truck making a video and the only thing I saw that was an issue was the back wheel. The video wasn't clear, was the swingarm tight or was the axle bent? How do we know the rider wasn't heavy, did he ride double a lot? How do we know he ever did any routine maintenance or PM, did he ever even check the gear oil? In the video did this fellow show you a bad seal where the bent shaft made it leak? All just claims. The one inch slack in the steering shaft bearings? Now do you know how these are set up? One inch and that much slack would mean it was unrideable period. Yet he said the customer was riding it. Did he have the front off videoing this one inch slack? Again his claim. You can say anything you want but if you're going to make a video you can easily show what you're claiming. Why not have the scooter in the shop and video all these problems to show how it came into the shop, why the Pride of Cleveland on the street, I'm going to save your life from these dangerous scooters? The front forks? Did he mention the riding conditions? On some of the roads in my state the front forks and shocks take a beating, no big deal to pull the caps off and add a little fluid, again simple PM. 600 miles? Did he show us the speedo on the odometer? Again this would have been easy in the video, in fact I would have made a point to show this to people on these so very dangerous scooters. I would have said "SEE THIS!" This is a death trap and it's only got 600 miles on it! Now here is some facts about POC scooters: clevelandscooters.com/What do they sell? So they take in all the junk Chinese scooters to work on? Yea right. As far as the other videos and your questions, didn't even bother to watch them so I can't answer those questions, the first video and just claims with no proof was enough for me. Remember the scooters they sell would never have any of those issues and you pay them to see to it they don't. Myself I can see to it myself. JR

I guess some folks just hate to admit that dollar for dollar Chinese scoots are a much better value than those high priced "Motor Snooters" If you want to gamble with your life perhaps...
