I accidentally put my carb gasket on backwards just once and I noticed a big difference in performance with just turning the gasket around. Unfortunately it was a huge drop in performance. I don't know if everyone's heads are like this, but on mine the carb gasket can only face one way or it blocks off a good quarter of the intake hole.
It's interesting that you got better performance...
Good luck with your inventions and mods!

[replyingto=jerseyboy]jerseyboy[/replyingto]No animosity here, just questioning some dialectical relations. You're pretty cool, too, Tom. I never saw the thread to begin with, so that's why I'm curious as to what it contained.

They're located only an hour from me, yet when I order from them it takes about a week too... Last time it took over five days to process my order and then it took one day of shipping. Personally, I'm fed up with shipping if that's how long it takes to process a simple order of a clutch spring Not to mention their nonexistent return policy...

Yeah, now I've got two sets of non-fitting brake calipers... My only hope is that I can at least return one of them to scrappydogscooters. Absolutelyscooters has a NO RETURN policy so I'm SOL on that one. I ordered some rear brake shoes and they fit like a charm. I got real lucky on that one. No more squeaks That's very true. The problem was I had almost no doubt that it would fit. I was so sure of myself that I didn't double check. Never again.

[replyingto=scoottech1]scoottech1[/replyingto]First a schism happened where a lot of members moved to Scootdawg.net, but then due to legal reasons all the original posts had to be taken down from that site and it lost favor among the users of scootdawg.proboards when ItIsTheRide became the official successor to scootdawg.proboards.
I believe the reason is that the ADMIN privelidges to scootdawg.proboard became the property of proboards itself and this meant no more moderators could be promoted and the site would eventually become completely unmanageable.

It does indeed suck. Sidelined now for almost two days and my new UNI STILL hasn't shipped!
Good idea, though, Tom. I'll try to secure my next one to carb itself if I can. maybe I'll just zip tie it to my throttle cable or something. I had my mother borrow a friend's car and give me a ride down some routes I took, but I had no luck finding my old UNI.
That sucks, dude. If I had to wait just a week I'd order one from a different place. Right now my new UNI filter is in the process of shipping from some place in Chicago, which is just an hour away. It's taking forever to ship, but I paid $15 for speedy shipping so it should at least be here by Monday...

[replyingto=domindart]domindart[/replyingto]It's that thing you do with a sparkplug in order to check whether your main jet is running lean or rich. You basically get your engine hot, put a brand new sparkplug in there, take a drive and go WOT as long as you can, then flip the kill switch and pull over. Then you remove the sparkplug and check the color of the tip comparing it to a general chart of colors. Darker is generally "richer", meaning more fuel; lighter is leaner, meaning more air.
Hope that's a good summary.

[replyingto=oldchopperguy]oldchopperguy[/replyingto]Thanks, Leo! That's very informative. Yeah, like I said with my UNI filter it seemed to run fine, just had popping and lean conditions with my small jet so I put an actual sock over it to restrict the airflow some. Problem (temporarily) solved! Or so I thought... I understand your post a lot better now that I know the proper term for the foam filter "sock". ;D After a long trip to pay the water bill, go to ace hardware, and stopping at a few other places I got home and wondered why my lean conditions had returned, but gave it no second thought because I knew my jets would arrive later. When I took off my seat bucket to replace my intake manifold I finally noticed my filter had been gone; for how long I do not know. If it weren't for the risk of micro abrasions on the cylinder wall I'd just up jet to 98 and run without any filter at all. But I know that's a bad idea. I've never ran my scooter with a stock filter before because when I had the stock filter installed it was broken beyond repair to begin with. So I technically never have used a properly functional stock air box. I hear that any tubing between the intake and the air is restrictive so I'd prefer to not even bother with it and stick with the so-called "performance" filters.

I'm going to be sitting here waiting 'til monday when my UNI filter will supposedly come in the mail -_-. Got my jets today so I installed the #92, now I have to wait a few days to do a plug chop whilst stranded at the house. Woe is me.

[replyingto=z0m8i3]Z0M8I3[/replyingto]wait 50 miles before you go WOT at all. Do an oil change at your first 100, 300, and 600 mile intervals. After that your break in is close to complete. No WOT for more than 15-20 seconds at a time until that last oil change, and even then it's better to lay off WOT as much as you can help it ;D
Congratulations.

Too rich isn't harmful to the scooter unless you're waaay off. Sounds like you're OK. You're more than welcome to try that 82 jet though, it may help with fuel consumption.
The A/F screw only effects the idle and up to 1/8 throttle.

Yep, that's just the pair system. There should be a tube coming off your intake manifold and you just plug it up. I might recommend getting a new intake manifold without the extra nipple so you don't have that extra hose just hanging around there Good luck!

variator

I've got the Koso variator, but not the Dr. Pulley. I believe the Dr. Pulley variator is just about the widest variator you can get meaning the belt can ride higher, etc. The Dr. Pulley variator also comes with more. From my understanding you only get the variator itself when it comes to the koso and they don't make the front plate. I could be mistaken though. If I could afford it I would definitely go with Dr. Pulley over Koso, but the Koso does the job good too.
