This scooter has an inter tube in it! Im not sure why as it is a tubeless 3x10 tire, but my tire was flat! I patch the tube and it worked for a week are two. Now I have to air it up before work every day .
Trying to get the tube in the tire is a pane ! So I'm thinking about patching the tire, and installing a bolt in valve stem!
Would you Patch your tires side-wall?

no never , not ever . The fact that its not holding air is dangerous even more so if it is the front .

You should never repair a tire on the side wall, it will not hold. The side walls flex to much. You should replace the tire.

Yeah a side wall cut like that is probably not a good idea to patch. You could put a tube in it but you are running the danger of the tube blowing out through the hole the knife made.

NOOOO patches are best on the outer edge not the sidewall . I hated how bicycles would need air when the temp changed . A tire spoon you can remove the bead easier and with less chance of damage than if you used a screwdriver . I would replace both to be safe and avoid the hassle of putting in air daily . It would be terrible if it blew out while riding and you got hurt . My TaoTao with 3.5 x 10s the rear was pumped up but came off of the bead 3 times . I tried removing the valve stem and inflating until it pooped like with a car tire and it did not work . I had to get a buddy to wrap and hold a strap around the outer edge while I inflated and held the tire for it to seat and hold the air in . So far my scooter with 16s only had the air checked and only inflated when I bought tires . My scoot with 13s the front went down some while sitting up for a bit but so far has held up without leaking . In cars I have put in a lil bit of Fix a Flat as a preventive measure . Tires and a tube is cheaper than a new scooter or ER bill . If you try tubeless get the  degree valve stems . I have read where some factory stems leaked and some replaced with the degree stems which is easier to put a air chuck on or at least for me it is |

Never use fixaflat as a preventative there are products out there that are made for this not fixaflat!

Never patch any tire that has a puncture unless it is in the tread and no closer than 1 inch from the edge of the tread. On a motorcycle/scooter you only patch a tire to get you home or the tire shop so you can replace the tire.

You need a new tire, you cannot repair a tire with a bad sidewall cut.

I know car tires you can opt for road hazard protection but has anyone heard of this for scooter tires ?

I do not agree that a properly patched tire needs to be replaced. It you patched a tire in the tread you should be able to continue using it for the life of the tread.

I do not agree that a properly patched tire needs to be replaced. It you patched a tire in the tread you should be able to continue using it for the life of the tread. Agreed. But do not PLUG a tire except as a temporary emergency repair! |

Never use fixaflat as a preventative there are products out there that are made for this not fixaflat!  I like Ride-On tire sealant. There's several reasons to not use fix-a-flat; for one it's not a preventative. It dries up and hardens after you put it in the tire; it's like cement. It's also corrosive and will eat up your rims. It's probably fine to put fix-a-flat in and then drive it somewhere to replace the tire immediately. I've done that on my car before. There is Slime, which can be used preventatively because it doesn't harden, but I've read that at speeds over 50 mph it causes a lot of vibration. In a small 50cc Slime would probably be fine. The good thing about Ride On is that it can be used to keep your tires balanced. Centripetal force will keep an even coating around the whole tire. Watch the video on the website. I use Ride On in my scooter and it made my ride a lot smoother and I also don't have to worry as much about running over a nail or something and having a sudden loss of air pressure. |

The tire was replaced, $39 for the tire and mounting was $10 + valve stem! but i running today and not some time next week.

Many scooter tires don't work well when flat. The tire bead tends to come out of the groove and causes the tire to flop from side to side. This happens fast and you crash.
But I did discover that the Perelli S26 tire did really amazingly well when it went flat on me. I remember riding home fro work and the scooter felt sort of squirrely feeling like. So I stopped a couple of times and kicked the tire but it felt stiff, so I figured it was my imagination or something. I have crashed before from flats and it wasn't fun and it hurt a lot too. But the next morning I went out and discovered the tire was flat.
Somehow, a broken piece of a metal locking screw arm on a compass (the thing you use to draw circles with) had somehow punched its way through the tire. Now these Perelli tires are stiff, thick and the sidewalls are very stiff as well. So it is amazing something could punch through it. beats me. But anyway I was able to get home though. If it was the OEM cheapo tires, I would have crashed for sure.
When I went to replace the worn out OEM junk tire with a Perelli tire, the OEM tire almost fell off the wheel, I just about didn't need any tools to get the thing off. But the Perelli tire was very difficult to get on, it took a lot of effort to get that sucker on, and those tire beads are not going to be moving much without air in the tire.
Plus the Perelli tires are round and balanced so well to start with, that I didn't have to balance the wheels when I got done either.
