Someone has been double talking me today. I would like to make this survey and point it out to them. Please take a moment and vote.
Thank you

just my opinion i believe in preventive measures so knowing what i know now, before i first start it and every other oil change after that and diffidently when ever i have a starting issue ....

Checking and/or adjusting the valves should be part of the P.D.I., then every other oil change, and if it has difficulty starting or is dieing at stops.

I'd say not if you have starting problems, but notice performance (compression) loss; resulting in reduced MPG and MPH. So far 3000km and no valve adjustment yet. Clean the valves regularly, because carbon deposit on them actually reduce valve clearance, and when you remove the deposit, valve clearance will be increased.
Pouring a bottle of carb / fuel / engine cleaner every 1000km's could help lengthen the valve adjustment intervals

I say you do it every time you get enough motivation to take all those plastic panels off that it takes to get to the the valve cover. D8

in the 1st year , i did 'em every 1000 miles since then , ehhh every 2-3-4 months. but i change oil more than that, by a long shot..... i might change oil 2, sometimes, in the summer, with alot of heavy riding, i might change oil 3 times/ month.
even full synth. its what $9-10/ Qt. ?
oils the life blood, $20-$30 a month is a good trade off for me.

You do valve adjustments every 4 months??? I haven't done my first one yet, and I'm at 3000+km's (~2k miles). I think doing them every 2k miles would be good...

IM SORRY i mis spoke i check 'em every 4 months beginning of spring & again towards the end of summer. sometimes they are fine, sometimes they are a bit off.
and well last summer i put 2,000k miles on in 4 months and im at over 8,000 miles in 3 1/2 years so if you can add , yea thats about 2k every 4-5 months
and heck if a person wants to check every 1000, who cares?

I check them when they sound different then normal, or if it has hard starts or runs different. If your in tune with your scoot you'll know when its time.

If your in tune with your scoot you'll know when its time. ^^^^^this^^^^^^^ My scoot has 4000Km on the clock, and I did my Vvs at about 1500Km. Once I start getting a tendency to cut out at stops, or maybe hard starts, I know they've slipped. Probably gonna do them again after my next shift rotation (so about 4800Km) as they may be going now, but it could be attributed to the low temperatures we're having again now. Ian

I checked the vvs on my pdi and then again when I had starting issuse at 1500mi. I'm at 4600mi without a vv check and starting to get more of a tap. It's time. Ride safe all!

The recommended Valve adjust is at PDI, 500, 1500, 3000, 4500, 6000, 8000, 11000. and so on. according to most GY6 manuals. That's the technical side of it, the reality is most people don't check until there's an issue, which is fine unless you've cracked a stem.

Depends on the bike really. On my Lance it was monthly (every 1,000 miles) as the valves would go out that fast while on a mid grade bike it could be every 3,000 to 6,000 miles. On a higher quality bike it would be every 12,500 miles. Some could require an initial adjustment on delivery while others after the first 100 to 500 miles and then every 1,000. On a Piaggio/Aprilia/Vespa/Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki there should be no need for an initial adjustment and you would just follow the recommendations in the owners manual unless a problem was noted.
It can be very fluid so there is no one real carved in stone general answer aside from follow what the owners manual recommends.

Being that at best the assembly QC is poor . Would you disagree that the valves should be checked before first start up ? Do you you disagree to the point to be outspoken about it . Taking a valve cover off and sticking a feeler gauge in there will hurt nothing . John
