I believe it depends on were you're living. If you're living in colder places like alaska, or canada or something, 5W30 might be a good all year round oil for that scoot (save for the summer).
i personally am still looking for the perfect mixture, but so far the best I got in hot S-Florida is 12W35 (a mix of 10W30, and 15W40)

Why are you using such thin oil, that is almost like water? Most use 10w40 all year round. That could be the reason for the louder tapping. The motors are not built with tight tolerances. Alleyoop What sounds like water the 10 or the 30? my oil don't burn, I blow a little oil. about 10ml in 300mi. live in Reno, nv and last winter the coldest was 10* at night and no higher than 45* in the day jan-mar. now that it is may were pretty much out of the cold were hit'n 80's no lower than 50* at night. Regular oil changes every 400- 800mi depending on the color. it will never hit 1000miles with the same oil. I re-adjusted the vv's, intk @ in-between .0015&.002 closer to .002, and exst at .002. Hardly any tap, very light tapping, she runs like a beast. Maxes at 50-52 bike spd, which you all know is 38-40 real speed. With the vv's set @ .003 or .004, like what everyone on this site said, and it was way too loud of tapping and couldn't even touch the 50 mark. Would not want to run right at all. Hard starts, almost dying at stops. it was either too much air or too much gas, could never find the happy medium. This is my everyday driver. Explain that! GUYS! I think I'll stick with the manual!
