I'm new to scooters so bare with me. I recently put in a new K&N air filter in my 08 Burgman 400. I read somewhere that some (air/fuel) adjustment needs done to regulate gas consumption. Is this true and if so how do I go about doing this? I'm asking because it seems like my MPG has DRASTICALLY decreased since installing the air filter.

You could have actually increased a less efficient filter; since the burgmans usually are pretty much tuned to very good performance.

Can you put up a picture of what AIR FILTER WAS ON THERE? 1. It could also be that the K&N you got is to small and is restricting air and therefore running richer. 2. If you oiled the K&N you may have to much oil on it. Alleyoop

howdy, just ignorant input, but i heard that too much oil on the filter could coat some air-fuel sensor and cause it to malfunction--
lotsa miles and smiles to ya---i noticed no mileage difference when i adapted a k+n to my kymco grand vista(grand dink) ken

I would run not walk to replace your upgrade filter with a real original filter system used on the Burgmen. Seriously man, this is a great forum for friendly chat but it is not Burgman USA. Of course you know your are riding one of the highest perfomimg scoots sold in the USA. Keep it stock until you know a lot more about what you are doing.
Cheers lefty2
I ride a cousin - Yamaha 400 Sometimes I like it better, Soomtimes I like your scoot better.

You may have messed up the tuned porting of the Burgmans fuel injection with that upgrade. If the system includes a mass air flow sensor the filter oil can also ruin those and put things way out and lead to expensive repairs.
If the sensor has not been damaged you may be able to get around this by adjusting the engine control unit with a new map to cope with the filter (a specific computer interface or tuning module would be required) however with the Burgman I would leave it stock.
