Don't be confused, your scooter is not different than your standard car engine, just smaller. There is no wet clutch so you don't need special additives for the clutch. I just recommend changing your oil more frequently as it is a high revving motor. Don't be cheap it only takes a quart!

Doesn't the starter on a GY6 use a wet clutch system?? I thought it was the reduction of additives that you were after here. Isn't running with no oil filter different?? Do you really want an oil that suspends nastiness in your oil when you have no device in place to remove it?? Not sure how a scooter engine is like a car in any way really besides the fact it uses the same fuel to support internal combustion. Just to be clear MC oil has less additives not special ones for the clutch... Also this article is just one mans opinion of information it looks like he copied from the wiki.

Diesel motor oil has the best additive package for MC and small engines hands down,,full of all kinds of good stuff(high in magnesium levels)that the little high revvers thrive on,,if you did some research you would see..and no,,cars engines are not like GY6 motors,,the closest a GY6 motor comes to a car motor is at Idle...lol..and thats not even close.Like scootnwinn said it does have a wet starter clutch,,yup!

Yes Diesel motor oil is great for breaking in a motor. Alleyoop

I thought the reverse was true, that thinner oil was necessary for breaking in the motor?

Alley it's not a "born yesterday " thing. It's this computer age thing. Younger minds today are FLOODED with all kinds of information about all kinds of things. When I grew up, we did'nt have all this info, so we relied on common sense and experiences of our elders.Younger people today rely so heavily on their technology and smart phones, that fewer and fewer people can think for themselves. And it's getting worse.SAD

howdy , yup a little scepticism is great. the web is fine but there is no accountability. you can post anything and not be held accountable for the inaccuracies. that is also why getting all your news that way is an incomplete and innacurate picture ot the world. they don't even have to retract items proven innacurate.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken sorry about being off subject a bit but just had to rant a bit

I'm still trying to figure it out.... Should I go with Wesson or Mazola? I'd go for Olive oil, runs much leaner

You are best of using an oil designed to support a high rev engine that is prone to foaming and has no real filtration system. Automotive grade high detergent oils really are not the best choice. Even Piaggio\Vespa\Aprilia warns you to never run automotive oil formulations in any of their scooter or motorcycle engines.
