I dropped my scooter over 10 weeks ago. I was wearing a helmet, but shorts and short sleeve shirt. I'm still healing. Fortunately, I did not hit my head, but sprained my shoulder, bruised my hip, and got lots of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree road rash on one leg and both arms. Trust me, recovery from road rash is not a pleasant thing pretty disgusting, actually. It was an oozy, gooey, bloody mess for about 8 weeks. Other than the thousands of dollars for the hospital, mostly covered by insurance, I have spent $300 - $500 in bandages, Tegaderm, and other medical supplies. Fortunately, nothing got infected, but it was touch and go for a while. Proper clothing and/or armor would have made a huge difference. When I slid on my belly, my denim shorts and shirt took the beating and I did not get any rash where covered. Oh, I was doing 40-50 when I went down. Just going to the store for a minute, no need to dress-up, right?

Warning-- ATGATT My only choice of helmet was silver, 'cause I wanted the modular with my glasses. And the white was too big. But my next one will be white or bright red or safety orange. Or pink, of course. Really checked the 'net for jackets and picked my Cortech 'cause it's mesh (for our hot huggy summers) and came with both liners (windbreaker and quilted). I picked pink 'cause it was the brightest choice, besides that girly-girl me likes pink. The gloves were what Bob at powersports recommended 'cause they're mesh with leather padded palms and the knuckle guards. Also are silver not black. Had to wait 'til the next spring for my tax refund to get the pants. Also Cortech/Tourmaster, same as my jacket. Choose silver over the black for visibility. Got the red textile jacket 'cause Mom found it and was pleased how it would match my scooter. Again, though, bright. Not black. Got the white leather jacket 'cause it's gorgeous. And white. Ditto the white leather gloves. Although the jacket was a hard search to find it 'cause it had been clearanced long enough most places were sold out. I will say that even in black gear at least you've got protection. But you're less visible, plus you're soaking in heat from the sun. I saw a black shadow on the other side of the road. Then I realised it was moving. It was a motorcycle, all black (as in not one bit of non-black that I could see anywhere except the lights), with the rider in all black including his face shield. I wonder how many other drivers see that shadow and do NOT realise it's moving? Personally, I feel no matter how much you want that sense of freedom or the wind in your hair or don't want the hassle of "wasting" time gearing up, it's not worth the potential loss of skin or worse injury should an accident happen. Even a simple little very-low-speed slide-out can destroy your face/hands/etc. (as you might guess, I feel VERY strongly about ATGATT !!!) >'Kat

Very nice yello. I bet that yellow against the black really shows up!
A coworker's boyfriend just went down. He hit an oil spot, tires slid then his rear caught and threw him off. Didn't have on his gloves 'cause she'd washed his fave pair and he didn't go get his other pair. Back of one hand is all rashed. Side of a knee is too. Had on his helmet and armored jacket. No rash there, although the impact cracked three ribs. Could've been way worse for him.

I was reading some statistic thing on the net and it said white was the best color to be seen. % of all motorcycle wrecks were I didnt see them . Someone put on here a glue on stopolight, turnsiginal type lights that are radio controled from the bike to the helmet and it is put on the back of your helmet so people behind you can see thought that would be neet to have

It puts the signal right at the driver's eye level and makes you much more noticeable, particularly at intersections, when stopping or making turns.

I second the Red gloves from HF!: www.harborfreight.com/professional-mechanics-glove-large-68308.htmlThey are a very nice snug fit, comfortable, and work well for riding gloves. The biggest problem is a bit of stiffness in the thumb that makes it a bit more difficult to reach the turn signal switch. I actually really like the "free" gloves Superior sent me with my scooter... They are a "Kniohthood" brand, which appears to be a knock-off of the "Kighthood" brand, which in turn appears to be a knock-off of the actual Fox Racing brand... They are comfortable, flexible, and breathe well..
