I guess I'm late to this conversation, been concentrating on getting the image thing corrected and didn't see this or I would have answered the OP question. Alley was selected as a mod because....... (1) He will help and when I say this I mean help all the people here, help Doug and myself monitor this forum and it's needs. He does this unselfishly, always can be counted on in any way to help any time of the day any day of the week. He can be depended on. (2) He has been around forums for some time and understands how the functions work, helps keep the peace when there are problems and handles them in a manner that is in the best interest of the forum and it's members (3) He has great knowledge and mechanical, skills learned over years of working on lots of things that are of great help and need in this forum and freely gives his knowledge to anyone. (4) Lastly but most importantly "He Cares" He cares about people and this forum and at any time if asked to do anything gladly with no malice jumps right in to the task. I could go on and on but I think you get the picture. So sometimes he doesn't answer like some think he should? You may well be right? But can we all say that we "always" answer like we should? I can assure you there are those who think the same thing about me, can assure you some think the same about Doug? But to all those who think we should always answer/talk correctly/right I'll give you this saying: Don't talk about me until you've walked a mile in my shoes. Now my meaning on this saying is simple, we are all human beings, have needs, frustrations, good days, bad days, etc. etc. Some days one comes to the forum and all seems fine and dandy, other days it is not. We all speak/type in a certain manner, just like we all read/understand in a manner. What one may say/type may be rude/offensive to one person may not be read/understood by another in the same way. Knowing someone even if it's just from knowing a person on a forum does help one know how a person can be to a degree. But going back to the things in life that we have to deal with can also one day make what you say/type change or even be read/understood in a different way, it's called everyday life. So Alley has mentioned that sometimes he gets tired of telling/saying the same things over and over and maybe he can come across as direct and/or strong? I'll ask you have you ever walked in his shoes? Some can gracefully answer the same question over and over and never seem to mind but let them answer just one time in a way that one person might find offensive and that one post can become a "look at what so-in-so said to me" Again have you walked in my shoes? I've read all this post for post and I'll pick on my good friend RapidJim. :# Jim put it very kindly and since I know him and how he thinks I can tell you his true meaning. He knows very well how Alley is, he doesn't always agree with Alley, his right as a born free American. But he also knows Alley will help people to the best he can, he knows Alley can be head strong but I can assure you they both as born free American Veterans respect each other and that's another thing that Alley is if you didn't know that. Does he always think that Alley's right? Nope, but he respects his opinion and effort just like Alley respects his in the same way. It was also said here that you shouldn't or might not try to help someone if you haven't put your hands on it yourself or as some one say have first hand knowledge? OK if that's how you see/do it then fine, have no problem with that. But if you haven't re-wired a switch, trouble shooted an electrical problem etc. etc. then with this idea you won't/can't help anyone? I can assure you that I have helped diagnose/repair many scooters for people that I have never laid an eye on by simply reading a diagram or/and applying the electrical principals that I learned many years ago from working on many things. I've spent hours, researching/looking for a diagram or a forum with a scooter that had a like problem of a poster on a forum to pass on the "hey this is what might be wrong" with your scooter. Does it really matter how it was fixed? Lastly there were reminders of old SD and yes there are a lot of good and bad memories and yes some changed this and that, but does that really matter now? There was a time there especially in the last days that a thread like this turned into something ugly and in the end it became so much and so often that even the last one or two mods left standing were ready to call it quits and let it finish going to pot. This is not the case now, it's a new place, with renewed energy, old friends and a place where when things get out of hand it will be dealt with in a proper manner for the good of the forum and all and that's another reason Alley is a mod. [replyingto=geh3333]geh3333[/replyingto]Maybe you should learn how to type proper English and then others may be able to understand what you are saying. You sound like you have a pretty thin skin ,young fellow .As you grow up you will understand other people better .Don't take everything that others say to you personally .It will make life easier for you !

[replyingto=geh3333]geh3333[/replyingto]alleyoop is a great contributor to this forum and his mechanical knowledge is exceptional. If he got cranky or short with you or anyone else, you deserved it

AO has forgotten more about two wheeled motorized fun than most folks know. A true "computer of the scooter!"

Im kinda new here,, Never had a problem with Alley,,I like all his posts,,very helpful and have learned alot,,I don't know what happened in the past,,I have found the best advice for somebody that doesn't like the way another acts,,is the IGNORE button. He only flames and insults those who disagree with him.

Ah, the highly colorful grizzled characters of the previous generation. Hardened by years of worldly experience. Whether they be opinionated, arrogant, or just plain ornery, you're not going to make a dent in their day.... Been there, done that, had the t-shirt. I have been doing "Forum" stuff for over 30 years, since the 300 baud BBS on dial up, Fidonet, other nets, on that new-fangled "internet" stuff, newgroups, etc.... years. Have been SysOp, moderator, owner, blocked, kicked off. Anyhow, question: how did "alleyoop" become a mod ?I will assume that this place is similar as any place. If you want to be a mod, ask, you cannot be. If you don't want to be a mod the administer will tag you as being a mod. Same as dslreports.com did to me -- I logged in one day and was a mod. "Huh?" "You are a moderator." "What do I do?" "Whatever you want. If you see something wrong you can fix it. " Being a mod is not fun. See that "Report to Mod" at the bottom. When I log into the forum I can do look are what I want to see. When a mod logs into the forum he sees the list of messages that people tagged "Report to Mod." Before a mod gets to have fun, he has to look at the messages that need to be fixed. And it is the same crap every day! You cannot pay me to be a moderator. What a steaming turd. One constant on every board I'm on: when someone is a moderator, they NEVER give up that power! The crocodile tears that they have it soooooooooooooo HARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRD! make me laugh.

I will hand it to Alley, he hasn't lost his cool, like like we 'younger-generation' hotheads like to do ;D I admit I was a bit concerned about the grievances I aired, I was in a place where I felt like ruffling (or trying to) some feathers the other day, and was quick to jump on the bandwagon. I'm glad to see it takes more than that and a thread like this to get his lid off . I've never seen him flame anyone so bad, all I've seen has been pretty tame. Maybe I never got a chance to see those threads, but I know people generally get butthurt more easily than they should. Maybe I'm just used to seeing so much worse, another forum I am on used to have a troll who's sadistic narcissism was off the charts. Despite what I feel about his tech-technique, I give him respect for being able to brush off a call-out thread like this.
