Anyone can sit behind a computer and regurgitate information... I have not seen one tech thread made by him that was something done with his own hands, and anytime I ask for some explanation to what I felt is an outrageous claim, he doesn't have anything to say. I'm sure he may not feel the need to reply because I'm 'ignorant', and thats fine. But, I only take anything he says with a half grain of salt... I'm 3 seasons new to scooters, but not new to message boards. I'm all too familiar with members that get banned from one forum and take refuge in another, constantly changing names... it happens for a reason. People get called out, people get butt-hurt, life goes on. Some people learn by reading, some learn by doing. I think that is the difference here... Anything I post about is something I have already experimented with, and so far the few times I've tried to give advice, I've been right. Two times that spring to mind, alley insisted that turning the A/F screw was the magical solution and it was not... If you spread a big blanket of info over something, sure, you wind up right maybe half the time. But, you can cause members to waste a lot of time going down roads in the wrong direction. I'm sure alley is a good guy, but most of his posts i see make me go such as "a performance clutch is just a stock clutch with tighter springs, don't waste your money" and his claim that 2k clutch springs are going to raise your operating rpms across the board, as in if your top speed rpm was 7k, it will now be 9k with 2k clutch springs installed

the stronger torque springs raise the rpms all the across the board i've done this, they require heavier weights and a good belt, i've shredded belts too. The clutch springs just control when the clutch engauges

I have known Alley for years and have met him personally when I did his motor. Is he old and set in his ways, yes he is like a lot of us "old" people can be. Will he stop and listen, yes. Will he argue if he thinks he is right, yes he will, just like he will back down and reconsider if he is shown he may not be correct.
He spends a lot of time reading about things, finding pictures to expalin things and then passes it on. Is this wrong, no! How do you think we learn?
I have had disagreements with him and sometimes he is right and sometimes he is wrong, just depends on the topic.
He is politically correct NO and neither am I LOL

That is a fact young man because 99% of the problems with the scooters are all the same. I got tired of typing the same thing over and over so yes I sat behind my computer and typed all the most common problems I could think of and put them in the TIPS and TRICKS section. But they were done by my own hands. I also added pictures of my own and if I did not have one I would find one and label it to clarify things and parts. All to help the people that are not so mechanically inclined. I have some other tricks up my sleeve that I haven't put up but those are for racing motors. You see I have been doing this for DECADES not just a couple of years. Now to be able to DIAGNOSE a problem for someone that is thousands of miles away they have to explain in detail what is happening, when, what the motor or item in question does and or acts. Also it helps to know the motor that is in their ride, what they did or added or took off or changed. You only have 4 major systems on a scoot, the Motor, Fuel, Electrical and CVT so the first thing to do is get enough information to tell you which of the 4 parts is causing the problem. Then you can then go down that leg that is causing the problem to pinpoint the problem child. This is not rocket science if you know how to Diagnose and IF you get detail explanation of how and or what is happening with scooter. Problem is most come on and say it won't crank or won't start which could mean a whole lot of things, also they do not mention what they did or changed until you have gone through several pages of questions and suggestions. Here is one I hit on the head right off the bat but he explained it enough to tell me what the most likely cause could be. www.scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=150cc&action=display&thread=8246But enough of this trying to explain to a young wannabe, all I can do is put up what I think the problem is and let the OP decide what he wants to do. I am a mod on two other forums and NONE of this silly stuff goes on over there and I know why. Here the young and some not so young get their dander up when someone other than themselves responds with the right fix and or gets corrected. If you would sit back and take it as a lesson learned and just learned something new that you did not know before none of this would happen. But people are people and the jealously comes out and the pissing match starts. I think the best thing for me to do to stop these name calling attacks and bad feelings is just be a MOD. If anyone wants my help they can PM me or go to thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/index.cgi or www.scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=150cc&action=display&thread=8246 I am ALLEYOOP on those forums as well. You all have a good day and hope the SAHARA WINDS ARE ALWAYS BLOWING AT YOUR BACK.

Anyone can call names. That is life and that's what typically happens on messageboards. I have been a moderator on 2 car forums over the past 13 years. You see this all the time.
Does Alleypoop go beyond than necessary to insult, yes! I can call him an old man who has nothing better to do than try to get angry at others for trying to learn. Alleypoop may see the same questions, but from new people. Alleypoop does NOT have to say anything. If he does, I have learned to de-sensitize and bypass his answers. Does it make it even HARDER to for new people to search the correct answer? YES, because then the archives and threads get full of poor remarks and sometimes wrong answers.
Just like any other messageboard or Google for that manner, we have to take advice, results, and what people claim as fact with a grain of salt. Yes, the attitude that some people give here does create a worse environment. Messageboards always have new waves of people coming in, and old ones who leave. If we don't embrace the new people who continue our scooter enthusiasm, then the board will die. Setting a good tone keeps people coming back.

Ah, the highly colorful grizzled characters of the previous generation. Hardened by years of worldly experience. Whether they be opinionated, arrogant, or just plain ornery, you're not going to make a dent in their day.... Been there, done that, had the t-shirt. I have been doing "Forum" stuff for over 30 years, since the 300 baud BBS on dial up, Fidonet, other nets, on that new-fangled "internet" stuff, newgroups, etc.... years. Have been SysOp, moderator, owner, blocked, kicked off. Anyhow, question: how did "alleyoop" become a mod ?I will assume that this place is similar as any place. If you want to be a mod, ask, you cannot be. If you don't want to be a mod the administer will tag you as being a mod. Same as dslreports.com did to me -- I logged in one day and was a mod. "Huh?" "You are a moderator." "What do I do?" "Whatever you want. If you see something wrong you can fix it. " Being a mod is not fun. See that "Report to Mod" at the bottom. When I log into the forum I can do look are what I want to see. When a mod logs into the forum he sees the list of messages that people tagged "Report to Mod." Before a mod gets to have fun, he has to look at the messages that need to be fixed. And it is the same crap every day! You cannot pay me to be a moderator.

I didn't read through this thread totally but thought I'd throw my 2 cents in Alley is not meaning to be offensive I beleive. He is just "stern" in his replies cause he seeks to get to the problem and get it fixed. That's how I see him anyway, I think those that have worked with others around cars or bikes can relate.

As an industrial mechanic myself for ove 30 yrs, I can totally identify with alleyoop, Sometimes mechanics and people with a lot of experience and knowledge can seem abrupt and brash and even impatient , I know i get that way with people, and i can assure you,no ill intent is meant by it. you have to have some thick skin, and not take everything to heart sometimes. the guy is here trying to help everyone who asks.Us older guys arent so sensitive and politically correct all the time. thats just the way it is, and it aint gonna change. You cant concentrate on a solution to a problem if you are busy thinking about how the guy will "feel" about it. Emotions are not part of mechanical technology. Now, hopefully this is all out of the way, and we can get down to scooter talk

If you keep on needling Ally you are likely to have your questions go unanswered by everyone.
Ally has gone above and beyond for me and you being the new fish need to pulled in line quick.

Gotta' agree with sail'. Except it's any professional dealing with extended ignorance.
I know I get abrupt sometimes with customers who're being extra-obtuse about how to do stuff self-serve. Stuff anyone in their 30s should know, like accessing their email accounts. Yes, I really have folks who have zero idea how to get to their email and then how to sign in. None. And then they ask if they can't just use mine. Yes, I can get REAL snippy with these folks. "Yeah sure, why don't I give you all my passwords while I'm at it?" Idiots.
My solution is to tell them "I'm sorry, I don't allow anyone else to use my own personal email account. And I can't access your account. You'll have to figure it out, or else come back later."
I don't resort to calling them names, either. Hm. Yes, "brandjerk", this part is directed at you. See how it can go around back at you? I'm sure we all can change everyone's screen names to offensive names instead. But really, why would anyone that's older than, say, ten years old want to (except to make a point how juvenile that is)?
>SillyBat (or perhaps you'd rather call me StupidRat? Or say, I abbreviate it S'Kat sometimes, you can have all sorts of childish fun with that)

Gee , just to put this out there . Alley is currently sharing the mod position with someone that has in the past banned him on another forum . That's a story for another thread that has been put to rest . If I presently were looking for advice I would make it my business to play nice in general . We all see who is in the know from different perspectives . A mod on 3 of 5 primary forums for scooters . I don't think I would be challenging him unless I wanted to never get help from a scooter forum again . If I were in your position I would just zip it before you piss anyone off (politely stated). I come here with thick skin , then again I don't work in a corporate office smile to your face and stick the blade in your back . I choose who's posts to read or not to read for whatever reason , you might want to do the same . Alley has been very helpful to me with regards to getting my scooter running and with integrity of parts .
