Been there, done that, had the t-shirt. I have been doing "Forum" stuff for over 30 years, since the 300 baud BBS on dial up, Fidonet, other nets, on that new-fangled "internet" stuff, newgroups, etc.... years. Have been SysOp, moderator, owner, blocked, kicked off. Anyhow, question: how did "alleyoop" become a mod ?I will assume that this place is similar as any place. If you want to be a mod, ask, you cannot be. If you don't want to be a mod the administer will tag you as being a mod. Same as dslreports.com did to me -- I logged in one day and was a mod. "Huh?" "You are a moderator." "What do I do?" "Whatever you want. If you see something wrong you can fix it. " Being a mod is not fun. See that "Report to Mod" at the bottom. When I log into the forum I can do look are what I want to see. When a mod logs into the forum he sees the list of messages that people tagged "Report to Mod." Before a mod gets to have fun, he has to look at the messages that need to be fixed. And it is the same crap every day! You cannot pay me to be a moderator. What a steaming turd. One constant on every board I'm on: when someone is a moderator, they NEVER give up that power! The crocodile tears that they have it soooooooooooooo HARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRD! make me laugh. Laugh? Ok I'll laugh at what you just said. I don't recall anyone saying or indicating that it's soooooooooo harrrrrrrrd? But I will say that anyone who helps run, moderate, add tech info. etc. does do it freely and because they want to. I don't think some realize sometimes just how much time and effort that takes? Just last night I worked to 2:00 a.m uploading images and switching something you simply click on to use the smilies in another hosting server that Doug the other admin pays for out of his own pocket. I also have a server that I pay for on another forum and also use it some here. Don't ask for help or anything back in return. Not hard but it does take time and effort which I gladly like Alley donate along with the other mods/admins here. It's easy to laugh at others when you don't have a clue as to what they do. This is what makes it hard to sometimes stomach a thread like this when that is the case. JR |

I am here troops, Thank you all for the funny stuff.. LMAO at some of the stuff. Like I said I will just be a mod and come on and check stuff out. So I won't cause pissing match's and bad feeling with some I will keep off the posts. I am to old to change and I am the way I am and for sure I will eventually tell someone his/or advice or suggestions is full of it. I be here, YOU ALL BE GOOD NOW CAUSE THE BIG BAD MOD IS A WATCHING. Totally off-topic, but I just remembered. When I was little, we played a game called "alleyoop". You'd yell "ALLEYOOP!" and throw a ball over the garage to the sibling on the other side. Fun part was even though you knew the ball was coming, you had zero clue where it would fly in from over the roof. And of course on my side, lots of times it would bounce off the roof and come back to me instead. So there wasn't even the assurance any ball at all was coming to you.
Great fun though!
