Today I bought a used scooter. It's a 250 version of Scootie. It's in rough shape though, even worse than Scootie was when I bought him. It has definitely taken a beating and someone has been tinkering with it too. Still, I feel like I got back a little of Scootie, with a bigger engine to boot, and that makes me feel a little better than I did yesterday. Once I tear it down I can see if it's worth fixing up or not. Either way I do not like the tiny ten inch rear tires on these 250 engines.

Back in the sixties, in addition to my old Harley chopper, I built a "Big Bear Scrambler" mini-bike with a truly ANIMAL McCulloch kart motor (10 cid or approx. 165 cc) and 30-40 hp @21,000 rpm! By a fluke in the then-current Illinois licensing laws, I got it street-licensed... Hmmm... HOO-HA what a TRIP! Sudden death on a 30" wheelbase and 35 pounds ready to ride!
Well, I put a number of crazy but fun miles at 80 to 100 mph on the no-limit freeways of the day, and THAT was on FIVE-INCH rims. YES, that's NOT a typo... 5" Azusa kart rims! Tires were 11" outside-diameter.
10" rims were like monster-truck wheels compared to those mini-bike wheels! I cannot recommend it, but then, I was 16 and ANYTHING that would go 100 mph and I could carry onto the train or bus under my arm was so cool that I didn't care... Ah, the sweet folly of youth... LOL!
Anyway, many Vespas, and some older Japanese 250's use a 10" rear wheel. I'd prefer larger, but honestly, with good, speed-rated tires, they seem to do fine. Better than five-inchers for sure!
Ride safe!

My scoot is still in awesome shape after three seasons of rippin and tearin.I see some minor cracks starting to appear in the fender by mounting screws and a small one on side cover,,this is normal for these cheap Chinese plastics,,will epoxy sand and paint one of these years,,maybe not..lol

The Honda Helix did fine with a little 120/ -10 rear tire.

Changed the round fuse for an ATC blade fuse, wired in a 12v accessory port for charging (and everything else they can be used for)without removing the battery. Next: Get an electric fuel pump and remove the EGR emissions

howdy, first post in this section but i only re-adjusted the angle of the windshield hoping to cure or at least help the turbulance issue. this was not on the bv350 but on the honda aero which got the windshield put on two days ago and test ridden yesterday in the rain. it's a work in progress to see if i want to keep it or trade it off.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

I've never thought about turbulence. It didn't seem to be something I had to deal with. My biggest issue is that they are always a little too short, and I have to duck down a little to get the full effect of a nice quiet ride without air hitting my helmet.

I opened up my air box and found a poorly fitting air filter. I poured some gasket goo around the lip of it, let it dry, bent the tang for a better fit, and put it on. It didn't solve my engine trouble but I'll be ordering a new filter anyway.

Pulled the carb on my new 150, wanted to remove the plug on the a/f screw. Grabbed the Dremel and a small drill bit, carefully drilled through, took a body panel screw and screwed it into the hole, and it turned the plug right out. Unfortunately, the a/f screw has no head, just some blue ink marking proper position, it cannot be adjusted. The needle is non-adjustable as well, and it has a collar around the lower part of the slide meaning it takes a very small washer to work as a spacer, which I don't have on hand at the moment. She's running fine now, but I don't like running lean, so looks like I'm going to have to order a new carb in order to tune this baby the way I like.

I'm ashamed to say That I've not touched my scooter in a very long time. It has sat in the florida sun and baked until the paint has started flaking off. I let my son try and do some work on it last spring/ early summer and he did something to the rear end and now the back tire wobbles. I think he said he put a pipe in the spokes on the rear tire to try and take the clutch off. I have another old engine with all of the parts but I haven't gotten around to messing with it. I'm almost ready to just use it for a parts bike because of its current condition. I've been thinking about just upgrading to a 150cc since I would be considering riding it to work sometimes.

It really stunk but I had to drill a small hole in my right side panel to stop a crack from getting worse,,I plan on doing a little epoxy, scuff, and puff this spring on it,,guess i will grind out the crack a little and try to fill it with epoxy then sand and paint??

I use the two part plastic welding stuff from the hardware store. It's good for building up broken body tabs and filling stripped screw holes too. I liked the generic brand. The JB-weld brand was a bit soft.
