I put 16000 miles on my last one. only thing i replaced was 1 belt 6 roller weights and several bottles of oil. Oh and a couple of plugs. Drove it in summer &winter It only became a little unreliable toward the end, so I bought another. I still have it though. Lets see.... $800.00, &7 yrs of riding it ,16000 miles.Boy, It must've been a real JUNK!!!! It was a BAJA sc50 with the QUINGJANG motor. Maybe you can give more details? You said you rode it 16000 miles with only a drive belt and roller weights replaced, but then it became a little unreliable toward the end? If you would have rode it 16000 miles in one year, would that still be a good deal?

Thanks Tom I see more than scooters listed above. I bash anything I believe is poor quality. I bash Homelite chainsaws because they're poor quality. I own a Homelite Super-2 but it's a different animal from the new ones which are junk.

I'm not saying Chicom scooters don't run. I'm saying they're temperamental scooters. "...............This is exactly why you buy quality products. You'll end up spending more in repairs then what the scooter is worth...." Gee, I don't see the word temperamental in there anywhere.

My little 900 dollar Taotao turns heads and rips everywhere it goes,,Just got back from a 60 mile ride today(cost me $3.50 for gas) and I wouldn't think twice about doing it again.I did alot of upgrades,,maybe $300 worth,,but still,,if this thing blew up tomorrow,,Id be online ordering parts to fix it,,its not really about what it is,,its about a passion to work on things and make them better...its about the hobby,,its ABOUT THE RIDE!!!

I love my Chinese scooter.
As far as I'm concerned, it could expolode tomorrow and I'd feel I'd gotten my money's worth.
But, I very much doubt that it will. I suspect it will keep on running just fine for another few years.
I've had it for 2.5 years, just about 4000 miles, and have had zero mechanical problems with it.
I've replaced the belt once, a couple spark plugs, a fuel filter, a couple turn signal bulbs, and just put a new set of tires on it.. Regular maintenance stuff that any machine requires. Gonna need a set of brake pads up front pretty soon. Dang, there goes another 5 bucks.
I'm a tradesman, and understand the concept of buying quality tools once VS buying junk over and over. But, in some cases it just doesn't make sense. A 50 cc air cooled engine is never going to be a tool that lasts a lifetime.
It cost me just about $1000 brand new, plus about $350 in mods, and will outrun any stock Honda Ruckus that cost 2x as much.

Well for any thing one person or group swears by. Another person or group will swear at it. Facts of life.
