Now if I was to get a real motorcycle..... Spandi,
I couldn't believe my eyes! I actually HAD a BSA Hornet back in the day! As for reliability, it was THE worst bike I've ever owned, and it did NOT live up to its rep for performance, BUT it was OVER-THE-TOP cool. It was THE great ancestor of today's superbike/crotch-rocket. NO speedo (tach only) NO mufflers (those ARE the stock exhausts) minus the heat wrap... NO battery (the STOPLIGHT would simply dim the headlight) which was much worse than Chinese scooter lights... Cheesh! But it was SOOOOOOOOOOOO cool!!!They are scarce as hen's teeth. You find the dual-carb Lightning, the single-carb Thunderbolt, and some of the rare singles, like the Gold-Star, but the BSA Hornet is almost an urban legend. Thanks for posting the memory!Leo (remembering the glory days) in Texas

Yup..The only real motorcycle is a Harley. The only real cigarette is a Camel non-filter. The only real motorcycle jacket is black leather. The only real wallet is leather and has a chain to attach to your pant loop. The only real booze is Jack Daniels. The only real car is a truck. And if you believe all that, then please believe that real skydivers don't wear parachutes. LOLOLOL!!!!!!

As some of you read, i have a driver that insulted my scoot. WELL as i pulled into work saturday we asked (same dude) "so when are you gonna grow up and get a REAL bike?" So i asked the question "What is a real bike? AND GUESS WHAT HE SAID? "HARLEY" I got so pissed but still gotta be professional. So i "politely told him that he has no idea what a REAL bike is. AND i reminded him that im his boss. AND i educated him on HD motorcycles. But then he stated that Harley is the ONLY REAL bike!!!! I walked away!! Some people are just narrow minded, or have that ego they need to feed, nothing you can do about it. One of the guys I work with is like that. Currently his starter on his "Real Bike" is out.. So every day I see him I ask did you ride today ? Of course the answer is no. his reason is the starter is too expensive and he's saving for it... I just smile and say "I did".. And for the weekend want to be's I tell them a "Real Biker" rides his bike, it don't sit in the garage because of bad weather, it don't require dusting from sitting idle, it requires a bath because it's owner is riding it constantly... That always shuts them up...

Honestly, I like Harley's. There is even one modern HD I would own given the opportunity (XR1200). Sure, you can consider them the "status" bike, but there is a pretty wonderful culture and history behind them as well. HD occupies a place in Motorcycles that is very similar to Vespa in the scooter market. Iconic, maybe not always the best or highest performance, and priced at the top of the market with an almost fanatical owner base.
Of course I'm the guy who likes and will ride pretty much anything with two wheels and an engine, so my opinion most likely doesn't matter... but hating on HD riders is just as narrow minded as HD riders hating on scooters.

Matt Matt I like "almost all" bikes, from a personal standpoint some are not for me, such as crotch rockets, but they are still bikes, and I don't condemn those that ride them.. It's all about happiness to me. If it makes you happy then get on it and go.. However I have too run accrost those that feel only the Harley is a "Real Bike"... That's nuts... I ride to be happy, to save money, not to impress others. Nor em I going to pay for what some else thinks I should be riding.. If they want to pay for it for them selves fine.. I'm getting really tired of others that don't pay my bills or lend any hand what so ever in earning my money, telling me what I "MUST" spend my money on. What I "Must" do. Ill decide what I ride for myself....

I like scooters, and I've run across plenty of folks in my years in the powersports industry who just refuse to accept that. I'll agree, it's infuriating, but I like to think of us as "the bigger people on the smaller bikes". ;D Matt

I'm not defending HD riders here, But their argument about loud pipes saving lives, Ill agree with.. Fawkes is quite loud after his upgrade, and at first i didn't like it.. But i did notice much bigger vehicles than me seemed to be seeing me much better, at least knowing i was there.. I can only attribute this to how loud he is.. I don't always like it, like when i see people turning around that are walking on the sidewalk because they hear me approaching... However I do like the response I'm getting from other drivers on the road.. Much safer maybe people hear louder noises before seeing bikes don't know but I've definitely seen a difference...

Goldwings. Don't underestimate them just because they're usually driven by large old men. He weren't always old, and is liable to hand you your just for the asking.

now if somebody would only bring back NORTON I almost killed myself on a 650 commando once Liked the Commando 850 I rode in the 70's. Straight pipes and loud. Had to coast the last block or so at night comming into the neighborhood. Thankfully it was down hill.

I don't hate Harleys or their riders they just are extremely disappointing. Sure they are bikes but they are certainly not "the" bike in my opinion. Compared to any modern bike from any other major manufacturer they don't cut it. Read some reviews they are overweight underpowered with scary weak brakes. They are a serious PITA to work on too. I judge them as a motorcyclist and compare them to other cc for cc they don't measure up. There is a reason they no longer race them. They can't...
That being said I would ride the crap out of that XR 1200, that is one sweet machine and it works too...

Why don't you get a real bike is just a code word for. I want to show the world that I am and individual so I buy in to the marketing hype and go in hock up to my eye balls. On a bike that scares the heck out of me. Then I will put a whole 200 miles in a season but only if it sunny between 70F and 75F and (fill in the blank lets me). And then to show my individuality I go down to the bike shop and buy all the right clothes so I can look like every one else. What! you want me to learn to ride . I have better things to spend my money on than rider training like the latest chrome doohickey that every one else has. Practice I don't have time to practice that chrome won't polish it's self you know. How dare you have more riding skills than me on a ride that cost less than what I pay on insurance. Your are having to much fun get back in line and be and individual like me.
