does it retard enough to get a smooth start up ?
My understanding of the adjustable cdi is it is fixed position (where you fix it) it will stay in the same spot until you readjust it .

Some cdi's are obviously better than others. But i don't think any of them fully live up to their claims. Especially when they say 30% more power 20% better gas mileage and 5% less battery consumption. LOL.

John I do not know but I hope to find out if I get one that is adjustable. I will post my results if that happens. The ideal would be one that you could actually adjust the timing curve from 1000 to 9000 rpms. Prolly not going to happen for less than $100 and a lot bigger box.

Mak you seem pretty sharp on the timing (with degrees ) if what I claim to be true would you buy one ? Let me understand where we could be at conflict , is it that I state that the timing changes from where it is at at idle , then at 3000rpm it advances from where it was at idle ? I would like to understand where your coming from . I did check it with a timing light you can't mark it when it is turning . I can tell you how it looked , the tdc line at idle was ahead of the light about 1/8 of an inch away in the rotating direction . When it was at 3000rpm (the light moved forward to just before the next line on the flywheel in the direction of rotation , so the spark was coming before tdc mark on the flywheel . When I let off and back to idle the spark comes later the magneto the light was behind the tdc mark . John John where I am coming from is that I think you or alley or any member should not discredit a different or other Color cdi without first testing it with an inductive timing light . Especially if you are trying to market a competitive product. When I called and asked about the timing advance of your product all you could tell me is that you had good feedback.. When I posted my factual results with an inductive timing light you were enlightened and used an inductive timing light and mirrored my results. No disrespect intended but I think that as a close knit group of scooter enthusiests we owe it to each other to be more precise and informative in our posts. Especially when you are trying to sell a product. No disrespect int ended but as you and I both know most new guys buying a scoot have not near the knowledge or experience that we do. I am A certified master mechanic and a journeyman electrician and what I post is valid information. We need to give these new guys the best info we can. Best regards. MAK

I tested every cdi listed on my site with a timing light only one changed its firing point . This is the one I push . As far as the phone call went I did inform you that I tested the cdi with a timing light . You asked me about degrees , my answer was I do not have the wheel and otherwise do not know how to calculate degrees of advance . So what I tried to express to you this is a nonadjustable cdi , on its own at start up/idle it sparks slightly after tdc . At about 3000rpm you see the spot being lit by the light is before tdc , not the tdc line the next line forward on the flywheel . The adjustable cdi your looking for I believe to be adjustable but fixed . If it is the happy medium you seek . The cdi I have been pushing is not for you , because of the way it works .

I for one am not discrediting any CDI, I am speaking from Experience and knowledge. You were the one that brought up the color of orange CDIs. I said I have several ORANGE CDIs and they all have a fixed advanced setting causing my motor to kickbact when starting. I also have a PURPLE one which also has a fixed advanced setting and causes my motor to kickback when starting. And I do not need a timing light to tell me what the problem is. And I do have a inductive timing light brand new all digital haven't even taking it out of its package. I am sure you noticed with the timing light that the timing bounces around quite a bit it is not steady like on a car.
From your posts according to you the orange CDIs are good and advance at higher RPMS. I on the other hand found all the ORANGE ones and the purple one I have, have a fixed advanced timing and do not advance at higher rpms. Alleyoop

Well, that CDI i was going nuts about bit the dust yesterday. Luckily not while i was riding but i wasted a few minutes messing with wiring till i swapped the cdi back to stock and boom fired right up. Oh well i didn't pay much or anything for it. Performance difference not discernable back on stock cdi but i am running extra base gasket / lower compression now.
