I was really skeptical it'd make much or any of a difference, but an Orange CDI was included with the "power pack" BBK set I bought for my older 50cc Chinese scooter. Not sure what difference it would have made on the stock motor, but with the 83cc BBK, free flowing intake, and somewhat less restricted exhaust, WOW! Maybe there is a fuel or ignition problem otherwise but it sounds better, wants to go, will top out a good 5 MPH faster with the orange CDI. It could be running rich because it sounds kinda boggy with the stock CDI, maybe it is old and weak and any brand new replacement would provide a better discharge. Thoughts?

The orange cdi is a fixed timing . They do operate well . Some find with bbk's trouble cranking . I have found a variable timing cdi . They ease in starting and when yoi hit 3000 rpm it will advance the ignition timing .

You might see a difference in start up or acceleration . Depending on where the stock cdi is timed .

With the matching coil you can see even better than with just the CDI. On my former Lance Vintage 150 the Orange Coil and DC CDI set made a big difference in the way the bike ran especially in colder weather.

The orange coil is no joke. I was playing with one to see how far it arced using a screwdriver. Stock one about 1/4"..orange one over an inch. Wanna know how I know?...the orange one decided I was the ground.. I said..*&^%$#@ and ended that project..

Wanna know how I know?...the orange one decided I was the ground.. I said..*&^%$#@ and ended that project.. Been there LOL! My worse one was when I rebuilt a magneto for an old Norton and was bench testing it, not watching and spun the mag and one of the coil wires was clos to may hand and >>>>>>>>>>> OUCHHHH I have used both the orange cdi and coils with good results. You may not notice a lot of gain, but the hotter more consistant spark burns the fuel better. Hense, better perfornace and fuel efficency. Jim

I have the orange cdi and coil. I checked with an inducive timing light and the timing does advance with increased rpms. My question..... With the hotter spark from the coil would it be advantageous to run with a wider spark plug gap?

I can attest to John's CDI, Installed it on Fawkes, and he did start, and on one battery... that's when i discovered his crank bearings were trashed by the thinner oil i used, but that's not the CDI's fault... It works...
