Hank...good link...good info. Lucky for me I have DEEP groove tread 130/70-12 tires. I have test ridden customers scoots after repairs...in the rain...and what I found really dangerous is that most of them had worn 3.50-10 tires...I am talking bald! So at about 40mph or even less I was hydro planing. I suggest they get new tires since they can be had as cheap as $15.00..almost all said.."Nah..these work fine for me" Sooo I sure hope they are not as Led Zeppelin sez.. a "Fool in the Rain"... The biggest prob I have in the rain is that my front disc and rear drum breaks are less effective when wet...so my stopping distance doubles or triples.

Just rode in the rain today. The tires were on the road the whole time and the rain was heavy but no problems!

NOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!! RainX works ok for auto glass but NOT for your shield . I tried it and it fogged up worse . I had to wash it off with hot water . Scotts Antifog from CycleGear does work great . I just got in from riding and its coming down sideways . I could not see more than 100 feet at tines but no fogging of my shield or eyeglaasses

A full face helmet, waterproof gloves, waterproof boots and a Guardian Rain Suite and I am good to go. The Aprilia is made to be ridden year round and even has an available riding blanket that wraps aound the front of the bike and then around you to deal with cold rainy or snowy weather. The 15 Pirelli and Sava tires channel even our Tropical Downpours effectively. Wear you armored gear underneath and watch out for the plastic lines glued to the road near the intersections.

I also ride in the rain. I use my scooter for a commute to and from work. It does not matter, sun or rain, I ride 20 miles each way. Good rain gear, bright yellow florescent jacket with reflective stripes, good gloves and a full face. Oh, and it also helps I am on a MC-54-250B with full frontal fairings and tall windshield. I did 1000 miles last month and half was in the rain.

I only ride in the rain when caught off guard and need to get back home in it. I took my MSC in the rain which helped any rain jitters but since I only use the bike for fun and occasional commutes, if rain is in the forecast the cage is driven. I am less concerned if I am on roads of 40mph or less, even though someone coming the other way with bad wipers or a downpour obstructing visability can cause a problem.
Renting a Burgman to ride around Oahu with a couple friends in January and expect scattered bits of rain depending where I am on the island, but they use crushed lava rock in their pavement and it is really grippy. I will probably get nervous at times but I will make it through. Speeds rarely get above 50mph there do to low limits and heavy traffic.

You need really good tires for riding in the rain. Too hard or too soft is not going to be good and they have to have good channeling to disperse and water off to the sides and not allow it to build up under the wheels.

I just don't ride in the rain if I can help it. I do keep good tires on my ride tho, just in case and I almost always ride with a full face helmet, I do have a 3/4 face but I don't like riding with it much as it really messes with my eyes. NO BRAIN BUCKETS ALLOWED....
