Hello all, I have an 08 Burgman 400. I'm trying to remove the rear wheel. I got as far as removing the swing arm and then I fully expected the wheel to easily slide off its axle....it doesn't... ;-( The service manual says remove the "inner color" COLOR is the word the manual uses....is this a misprint? You think they meant Collar? In any event I can't get the darn thing off no matter how its spelled! Any tips? It would be appreciated Thanks

Update.
I've figured out why the wheel isn't coming off. The inner "collar" is still on the axle...it's stuck...I mean it won't budge.
Any ideas how I can overcome this? Danno

howdy, danno. iup front, i have no experience with the specifics of your scoot, so this is just a suggestion on how to look.
most "collars" will be threaded nuts similar to electrical conduit fasteners and will have notched external edges which can be driven off with a screwdriver against the notch and gently tapped with mallet or hammer. they can also be needing a spanner wrench similar to what you use to adjust your shocks.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

[replyingto=danno]danno[/replyingto]Came across this image. I'm going to attempt to add some WD40 and then try and whack the tire with a rubber mallet from the opposite side to see if it loosens up

So does this mean that you're all healed up and riding that "new" scoot? I've been wondering how it's been going for you.

Suggestion: try PB Blaster rather than WD-40. It's a far superior lubrcant/penetrant.

My doctor says it'll take between 6-12 months. I'm just keeping busy and preparing the bike for when the time comes. The rear wheel definitely needs a change. I don't know how the previous owner past inspection, which he got right before he sold it to me. I do sit on it from time to time making the vrooomm noises ;D

Many auto-part stores have it, so do some hardware stores. Personally...I get it at Wal-Mart!
Liquid Wrench is just as good (it seems to be essentially the same stuff).

[replyingto=ridecheap]ridecheap[/replyingto]Thanks RC
I've watched many of his video's. He's given me lots of confidence to do my own do-it-yourself repairs. You'll notice if you watch his video on removing the rear tire, after he takes the swing arm off, he easily slides the tire off it's axle. I anticipated the same thing when I got to that point... No..I ran into a snag...the tire didn't come off as it did for him. I've whack it dozens of times with a rubber mallet..I've used WD40 to loosen it up....so far it hasn't budged. Others have offered their solution which I have yet to try.
Thanks for posting.

From personal experience with both the PB Blast is a bit better than Liquid Wrench. I usally get it in the tool area of Home Depot. They also have a Garage Door Track lube and a Paintable Dry Silicon lube that both work quite well also.

If the penetrating oil isn't working the next step would be a gear puller. To pull the tire and spacer off the shaft.
When you do get it off and its time to put it back on. Use a good coating of a anti-seize paste on the shaft and in the spacer/collar.
Using this when you reassemble means the the next time it has to come off it will do so easily. I always use a product called Never- Seize.
Hope this helps good luck.
