Let me get this straight. You spent 20 years doing business with the regime and yet now you're assuming a tone of moral authority? How about I just buy a Kymco S200, would that make you happy? post #5 of this thread by Tarkus: "Thankyou. For a while I thought that the "gift" of low priced products talked of here was to be respected. It's not. We can try to kid ourselves about who and how these scooters are made but the fact remains that china cares about nothing but the money. It doesn't matter that workers toil in horrid conditions for little pay. When one worker goes down remove them and add another. Yes American industry can be a nasty place but since the early 1900's there has been at least some recourse to the "robber Barron" method of factory control. To even make a comparison is ludicrous. China makes American industry, as bad as some companies may be, look like saints. I consume as many china made products every day as the next guy but never forget what I saw in china. No these people didn't set out to give us a gift." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before you tell me I'm pitching a "moral high ground" go back and read the above from my second post of this thread. No moral high ground just stating a fact. I don't fool myself into thinking all is well where so many products we consume are made. Sure those nasty conspiracy folks from the NY Times, Bloomberg, Washington Post and the UN etal just keep spreading those lies. Just because one sees a video of smiling workers and no children at a plant that the government allows visitors doesnt mean all is well. Again I see no video of the mines, rubber plants etc. Not much more to say.

I spent 20 years selling product to the Sinopec Catalyst Company in china so I have a little insight into their manufacturing methods. I was based on the mainland for a large part of that time. There is nothing unsubstantiated about children in factories.
If you want to think that your scooter is free of parts made by children with no other choice have at it. It's my opinion based on the materials needed to build said scooter its near impossible. Metal means mines and in china mines in the provences mean child labor.
and that's just the start.

Even if I was to take the video at face value , and im not I would need to see the same from down the supply line. Who and how were those tires made ? Metal parts ? Those crappy fuel lines ?

You're kidding me? This is china you are talking about and that is government sanctioned video made for world consumption. This is the same country that firewalls the Internet. Little gets out that the government doesn't want out.
You're a smart guy I can't believe you buy into that.

The workers motives are to get better living conditions and quality of life for their families. Some actually had no choice and had the occupation to assemble scooters working in slave labor conditions assigned to them. Only since they hosted the Olympics was hosted there has the situation really started improving. Thankyou. For a while I thought that the "gift" of low priced products talked of here was to be respected. It's not. Lol! I'm pretty content with my 50cc, but I still believe that they should up the limit to 75cc. With 75cc you'll get normal acceleration and great top speed (probably just over 50MPH); while still having near to 100MPG. You really need to tune the heck out of a 50cc (4stroke) to be able to keep up with start-stop traffic. The point of the 50cc limitation is to have a class of bike that is slow enough for riding on 35 mph gside streets and slower roads that does not require a motorcycle license to ride. You want to go over 35 mph they have that covered, you get a motorcycle license, registration and liability insurance or maintain proof of financial responsibility then you are good to ride over 35 mph.

At the very least wear a helmet. I have a brother in law that went down after getting hit in a parking lot. He was not even moving. Even with the lid he hit just right and ended with a brain stem injury that has left he unable to do the basic tasks of life.
After the helmet all ill say is flesh makes a crappy brake pad......

A co-worker thought that scooters would be cheap fun on their island vacation a few years back and turned down the helmets and such because they were just scooters. She was out of work for about 6 months half of it in the hospital recovering from the accident that occured when she and her husband crashed while pulling out of the rental lot. She fell for another co-worker who visited her at home while her husband was in therapy having a child by him. The white couple having a black child clued her husband in to what was going on and he divorced her. The other guy was divorced by his wife so he moved in with the co-worker and her life went from polished professional to a harried overworked working mom at the end of her rope. This is a true story of what did happen when someone rode without gear or proper training. So what are you saying, no helmet Leeds to a cheating wife? Really ? Now there's a new warning sticker...........

Scooters used off road end up as parts fast. No way around it.
