Leo - I don't know if the headlights are ac or dc unfortunately. Great idea about using the existing switch - post a few pics when you're done!

I have been meaning to brighten up my night riding pretty much since I bought the scooter. The Vog came standard with 35W Ba20d incandescents, and the first thing I did was switch out the bulbs for 45W incandescents. The make, if anyone is interested, are Eiko 6245B. These were a great improvement but were still inadequate. I did not put in HIDs for some reason. The next thing I tried was to wire in two 55W halogen fog lights, which required a relay, a switch and a separate power line to the battery. They were big and heavy and I never figured a good way to mount them so I gave up. I ended up putting two 10W Cree Flood lights on as driving lights and the results are amazing. These can get pretty pricey, but i found a vendor on ebay who had two for $35 including shipping, less than the cost of a single light at retail. I went with 10W and not higher because the 10W are only about 2" square, and anything brighter gets a lot bigger and I didn't want them sticking out too far. The installation was easy because I still had all the wiring on from the halogens. I put them on the black body plastic rather than the faring because in this way there would be no wires to disconnect when I took off the faring. Here are two pics with the lights installed and the faring off. I drilled the black plastic and put a wide washer on the underside to spread out the tension. I put the nut on the outside to make adjusting easier in the future. And here is the result. First, a pic with the 45W incandescent only: And here it is with the floods: The pics are not the greatest but you get the idea. I'm not sure the light thows much further, but now all of the lighted area is nice and bright, not just a "patch" several feet away from the scoot (which wasn't even that bright). I mounted the lights further back than is probably ideal but i did not want to lose access to one of the screws that hold the faring on. I get a little reflection on the windshield extensions as a result but its not anything that affects the ride. I also made a video. It shows the difference well but you can't really see the regular headlights well. Steven Spielberg I'm not but again, you'll get the idea.

I'm in New Jersey now unfortunately, but still not too far away. You might want to go on facebook and "like" the NY Scooter Club or check in with them from time to time outside of facebook if you don't use it. They seem to be the most active NYC area group I've seen and the scooter rally was theirs. It was held in Red Hook at Scooter Bottega, 65 Union Street. Two rides went out from there, and when everyone returned they had a barbque followed by a nightime ride through times square. I skipped the night ride because I still had to ride back to NJ, and I was not too keen on going over the Pulaski Skyway at night!

You can buy yourself a little more light with 45w bulbs without killing the battery. I have the same scoot (Vog 260) and switched to Eiko 6245B bulbs which do help to a degree.
You can really improve with HIDs and there are lots of threads about them on this and other sites. I recently installed two 10w Cree flood lights to supplement the 45w eikos and that is what really did the trick for me.

I am not familiar with your scoot, but I know that this was the replacement for the pathfinder. Here is a very very long thread about the pathfinder that might give you some insight in the event that the panel mechanics stayed the same and only the shape of the panels changed. Good luck. scootdawg.proboards.com/thread/30592

See if you can find the lumen output. I've checked into these before and if I recall they were dimmer on a lumen basis than my 45watt incandescent bulbs, which are kind of pathetic in and of themselves.

Starscape beat me to it. I have been on long rally rides where more than one person has the Rotopax or something like it. It is unobtrusive and appears to be very secure.

I used Lucas gear oil, which I think is 80w- , based on all the old pdi threads on the old scootdawg site. There were always people quoting the manuals which often called for 10w40, and the experienced opinion was to go with Lucas.

I keep meaning to change my gear oil, and I looked at my log book while I changed my oil today and saw it was last changed 6000 miles ago!!!!!!!!!
I drained it and what came out was worse than the stuff I got on delivery - sort of a brownish-greenish shimmering liquid that really smelled awful. It was riding ok before the change so I only hope I didn't do too much damage. I believe the correct change interval is every two years or three thousand miles. From now on its every other oil change that I'll do it. Hopefully I dodged a bullet here.

John has been a great help to me in keeping my ride going. He's a great resource for our community.

I will get some pics and put together a night-riding post this weekend. First I swapped out my 35w bulbs for 45w ones, which helped a lot but were still pretty weak. I recently purchased two 10w cree flood lights and now I light up the night. The difference is, well, like night and day.
