So i attended a "scooter block party" yesterday in Brooklyn that was attended by about 60 scooterists. I'd say the majority were contemporary Vespas, with a few older models (restored and un restored), some 1960s unrestored Lambrettas, one or two Kymcos, two Burgmans, a Yamaha tmax, two helixes, a few Buddys/Genuines -- an only ME with the Vog to represent the chinese scooter owner. We spoke a lot about service, and I got a lot of props for doing my own work. The Lambretta guys rebuilt their own scoots, but I was surprised that virtually no one ever picked up a wrench, not even to string up an led light. I felt good after that in what turned out to be about a 100 mile day through tunnels, over bridges, fast and slow knowing that I was able to participate as a result of my own hand. It was also nice to change a few "i thought chinese scooters were junk" opinions.
As I always say, this has turned out to be a great hobby. Keep on riding dawgs!

Chinese Scooters are junk. That's why we have to learn how to work on them ourselves otherwise it wouldn't be worth it to ride them if we had to pay somebody else to fix them.. LOL

My landlord tried to get me to buy his Honda Helix! Ugliest thing ive ever seen!! The Helix is a touring scooter. ALL touring scooters are downright ugly. The Honda Metropolitan is a nice looking scooter but not my thing. The Kymco Agility is also nice looking not to mention cheaper.

This thread is full of some weirdness. So spandi I do my own wrenching and ride Italian am I real scooterist? And psycho you realize with very few exceptions all Chinese scooters are Japanese scooters shamelessly copied and butchered. Ridiculous, great you went on a ride with other bikes how do you think those guys would feel to know that now you are speaking bad of them because they chose not to wrench. Just because the other guys at least some of them chose not to wrench their own rides doesn't make you better, just different. Don't bash others for what they ride or how they chose to ride... I'm sure you didn't tell them that to there're face or infer they weren't real scooterists did you? I hope one gets to read this thread and you have a chance to explain yourself

I'm sorry psycho that should have been directed at redrouch for giving the Chinese eye candy props and the bashing the grandmother of all Asian scooters that made it possible for the Chinese to shamelessly copy and butcher so many different scooters. Sorry rampant ignorance and bigotry bothers me
