I just put on a new rear tire and changed the brakes. I thought the brakes were going to be difficult but they were a snap. Hardest part was pushing the pistons in so that the new pads would fit in and over the rotor. So glad I finally got to this -- I was down to the metal on my pad. Here's old and new pads: I also put on a Shinko sr429. So far so good - like riding on a magic carpet. My Michellin, which cost me $53, didn't even last a year so I'm hoping to have better luck. I got the sr429 becuase it's rated for 75mph.

The cdi is is right behind the dash. You will need to remove the faring to get to it. Let me know if you don't know how and I'll send you a guide.
Your fuel filter is at the tank outlet on the bottom of the scooter, and there is another shitty plastic filter in-line before you get to the carb. I changed out the filter from the tank to a good one and got rid of the one inline because you don't need it. While you're in there get rid of it and either replace the line entirely or get a connector. Let me know if you need any pics of something. I mentioned earlier that I thought it might be the brown/yellow wire at the CDI, but as I see Alley's troubleshooting advice to you I recall that he walked me through the same procedure when I wouldn't start. I only checked the wire because I fed the fuel directly as he told me and it still wouldn't start. Just remember "In Alley we trust" and nothing can ever go too wrong.

Two things to check out - NY Scooter Club (on facebook and the web) - www.nyscooterclub.com/ -- they have a lot of scooter news, Wednesday meetups for beer, and periodic rides. In jersey you can join the Central Jersey Scooter Club on meetup.com -- www.meetup.com/scooter-NJ/One of the active guys is right by me and they periodically have rides in western NJ leaving from south orange. You can get out here in less than a half hour. These are the two active groups I know of in our area. I'm sure our paths will cross sooner or later! -Mike

Always start with something simple I say - all my vog starting and running issues were traced back to a bad connection at the CDI of the brown and yellow wire. Give it a look.
Also, there has been a lot written about 2008 Vog owners who have had the carb diaphragm tear.

This is epic. Can't wait to watch the progress. Are you going to make this a recumbent setup?

Eiko 6235B is a good quality 35/35 bulb. If you can handle it, 6245B's (45/45) are that much brighter. They are not expensive, but the trick is to find someone who doesn't charge 3x the bulb price for shipping.

Alley beat me to it. this happened to me and it was the switch. You'll have to determine which one - sometimes its easy to spot that little part stuck in the depressed position. I've had the switch go bad and the brake lights don't work and I've had them go bad so the brake lights won't go off.

You guys find the best deals!! By me they sell 5 year old used chinese scoots on craigslist for more money than it would cost to buy one brand new. Keep us updated on the resto.

Ridiculous. Go to motocyclesuperstore.com and take a look at their list of "preferred tire installers." If there's one close by check out their posted prices and when you go to one tell them you heard about them through that site. I paid one of thier listed guys $20 once and another guy $35. The only caveat is that they want you to bring in the wheel, not the scooter. Good luck.

Thanks Leo, and now that you mention it I do remember reading your post. That was a great use of the useless switch. I had been thinking about this since our old friend Bluefront (RIP) put up a thread on the old site about adding driving lights. Enjoy that Kymco!
