Valve adjustment. A 50cc QMB engine runs its valve clearance at .002 inch. It doesn't take long before the exhaust valve settles in and clearance goes to zero, which causes the valve to be held open and lose compression.
Look on Youtube for videos on how to do the job.

I have no experience in this but possibly look into shorter shocks or shave the seat. It may get you a couple of inches.

Oh, no doubt. TNG was one of the first attempts to sell a better China scooter in this Country. They were Znen built so they didn't come from a Chinese barn.

Kind of old, isn't it? $625 might be normal in Florida but it sounds a little high to me.

Does a motorcycle ride count? On Friday night my brother came down from Rochester and the next day we rode a motorcycle event. It was a sixty-four mile escorted ride through Dutchess County, NY. My brother was on his 1100 Honda Shadow while I pulled out the Kawasaki 750. We hadn't done a ride together in over thirty years so it was a special day. There were about thirty other bikes in a long line and was impressive to see. The weather was amazing and the route was scenic and it all made for a great day. When we got to the end we took off for home at a casual pace and it was as enjoyable as the event. If time had permitted there was even an event today we would have liked to do but he had to get home.
We decided we have to ride again soon instead of waiting another thirty years.

Look for a vacuum leak. A cracked intake manifold or bad vacuum line would interrupt the vacuum that opens up the slide as it lifts from the diaphragm lifting it.

If it has a charcoal canister in the fuel vent line you may have overfilled the tank, gas flooded the canister and now it doesn't vent.

No. You're really old when you buy a Burgman 650. That's old.

You might want to check the charging voltage. Piaggio scooters sometime have voltage regulator issues. It might be that the battery is running it and when you shut it off the battery no longer has the volts to start it.

A month or so ago I turned on the key to my CF Moto Fashion and saw only dim lights all around. I looked through the basics and found nothing so I took the scooter down to a shop in Town. This shop is run by a pair of young men who specialize in Motocross bikes but don't shy away from fixing anything with an engine. They fixed my Honda Nighthawk's directional signals last year and didn't say a word when I brought them the scooter.
After removing all the plastics and much investigating they found a wire deep inside the scooter that had been rubbed through. It was only carrying a minimum of current. They replaced the wire, taped it in a place away from being rubbed through again and it's back in my garage.
I always heard that no one works on Chinese scooters, well guess what? They have a Tao Tao there with a clogged carburetor from years old gas, a JM Star with ignition troubles and a Kymco Like 50 two stroke with a burned piston from being run without oil.
There are people out there who will work on Chinese scooters. You just have to look for them. Plus they're only four miles away.

We're talking 50cc scooters here. A two stroke engine won't last as long as a four stroke. Since they all do about 45 mph flat out, STOCK, go for longevity.

Two people might be able to help you. Matt Maney at www.partsforscooters.com might know of a source. A longer shot might be Mike Hickman at Lance/Alliance Powersports. He may know where panels could be had since it was his company that sold it back then. You can email Lance with a note Att: Mike Hickman.

I should have noted this when it happened. A couple of weeks ago I took the 250 Fashion out on a motorcycle rally. I wanted to see how CVT held up against bigger engines. Last year I took the 250 Nighthawk on a rally and danced on the gear shift lever all day.
At the beginning of the day I was parked across from the microphone and sign in desk. At one point the MC thanked everyone. "I want to thank all the motorcycle and scooter riders for showing up today." I was the only scooter there.
The ride was interesting. I was behind a pair of Harleys and they spent the day getting in my way. Imagine a 15 cubic inch Chinese scooter held up by an 80 cube Harley. Fortunately the route was pretty and I didn't hold anyone up.
Not bad for a small motored Chinese scooter.
