I appreciate your help Rocky, but I think you're missing my point: there are NO marks on the flywheel. I had the engine completely apart twice for crankshaft repairs and thoroughly inspected flywheel for timing marks and couldn't find any. The way I see it I have 2 choices: either replace flywheel w/good marks or find a way to time it as is.

I mean, at this point, I'm almost ready to get a new flywheel just for the timing mark!

If I had the right-side cover off, where would the mark be in relation to the woodruff key? (Or what 'time' would woodruff key be at for tdc?)

For some reason there aren't any marks on the flywheel. I had the cover off and couldn't find any. (Bought the bike used) Any other thoughts? I'd use a timing gun if I could get it running.

Can someone please advise how to find tdc w/out flywheel marks? I took out the spark plug and rotated the engine until I saw the piston come up & installed cam. The problem: After getting a tdc reading from my indicator (straight plastic zip tie inserted in vacated plug hole) engine can still turn (just a little) before indicator starts to goes down. So if I'm following the indicator & rotating the engine, camshaft can be up to 3-4 teeth off and still be at indicator's tdc. Perhaps I should try and average the distance that the indicator is up?
Any help is appreciated!

So it seems that the oil pump gear didn't have its circa clip and was interfering w/the cam chain (causing it to derail enough to ruin the guide.

I pulled the valve cover off (2006 cf moto 250) and the plastic cam chain guides were damaged. On the exhaust side it was pretty chewed up. Looks like they weren't lining up with the chain. Any thoughts on what could cause this? Any good tutorials on cam chain guide installation?
Thanks!

Pressure cap is main fill tube on radiator tube? It's new, but I can try another. I'm pretty sure the system is bled so I can't understand the 'boiling' sound.

Any ideas what would cause this sound? If I pinch the skinny hose going from the thermostat to the radiator, it stops. Any ideas what could cause this?

Hello, I have a 2006 CF Moto 250cc water-cooled and the overflow coolant tank goes from 'low' to 'full' after riding 15-20 min. Is this normal, or indicative of another issue (air in system.) It doesn't over-heat (heat gun pointed at thermo housing was 207) but I do hear a 'gurgling' sound when I shut it down. Thoughts? Thx.

Ok, hanging idle is no more, but I'm getting a high rpm stumble. It's probably jetting but I want to rule out timing. Anyone know how to check timing with a timing gun?

Seems like the cam gear is off by a tooth. I've had the same problem with another bike, same symptom. I hopefully have a go this weekend.

Yes, did that as well as the exhaust system. Was hoping for someone very familiar w/these engines that may have domething I missed. Will try to tweak the jetting, and figure out how to check timing w/light. There must be a way!!!!

I'm hoping for some advice:I have a hanging idle (at idle) and I'm pretty sure it's not a vacuum leak or cable issue. I think it's either timing or jetting. Can someone advise how to check the timing w/a timing light? Any ideas are appreciated!

Feeling really dumb here! It seems I had a breach in the bottom of the O-ring gasket for the thermostat housing. It's new, so I of course didn't consider it. The crack was hard to see & at the very bottom. This is the nature of the hobby I guess... Thanks for all the help & ideas.
