Thanks for the timely advice but, do I have to take off the carb. to do this? "Quick cleaning of the carb will ensure it will work like you got it."

2008 Roketa 257cc setting covered outdoors 4 months. Outside of battery charge is there anything else I should do before hitting the start switch? Sorry that I posted this in 'air cooled'

Well last Tues. was a nice day so I put in the battery that had been indoors on the shelf all winter....checked oil...gas...coolent...tire presser...put the key in and cranked her over. Took a few attemptes but she turned over. What a fine sound to hear after all winter. on with a light jacket...helment and took a 30 mile sweet ride. All is well now. It is the ride.

My Roketa 257cc has been setting in the carport since Sept. 15th and the battery has been indoors and has a full charge. We are starting to get some warm days and I have the itch to ride. Is there anything I need to do to my ride before starting her up or do I just slap in the battery and crank till it starts? Thanks for reading.

The fuel/air mix is wrong. It is running rich. When you start out it is slow to pick up but as soon as the extra fuel is burned it picks up speed. It's set too rich.

Yep...thay's just what he did. He jumped it from my Chevy Malibu and he said...honk your bike horn...I did and it honked and that is when he said, "You need a new battery".

I had the same spinning starter and thought all sorts of bad things I maybe had to do. My friend a retired Air Force mech. listened to it and said, "Get a new battery". I did and it strarts every time now.

my money is the starter clutch is either sticking and needs lube or it has failed,,,probably lube will do it,,you need to remove the belt cover to access this part OK...I'll take off the belt cover. Do I need to remove the plastic or is there a sneeky way to get to it?

OK..it's the next mid-morning...checked battery and it is 12.3 V...nice day...lets ride. Turn key on and one little turn over and it is done. I hear the motor running but it will not catch. SO..I do know that the battery is holding it's charge so..because I know nothing about starters/selinods(sp)and like that...I am going to have to take off plastic...right side or left...I don't know and find the parts...and maybe get my ride on the road again. I will gladlly accept any and all advice.

OK..just back from the test ride. Before starting = 13.3 volts....to Walmart and back(started right up at W.M)it showed when home 12.63 volts. Distance to Walmart = 17.3 miles. Temp. is 96 deg. with a nice breaze. Fan cycled on and off as it should. It is a 12V charger with autimatic shut off. I will cjeck the voltage in the morning to see if the battery is looseing power over night.

Well it started...go figure. put key in got nothing...check battery...had 11.72 V. Put on trickel charger 1 and half hours. Checked battery...shows 13.3 V...put in key...STARTED !! Bought battery...Walmart March 2011 and have 5,343 miles on it. Could it be that the battery is old and will not hold a charge? I will go for a 10 mile ride and check the battery after and see what it says. It should still be at 12 V or better...righr? If not then the battery will not hold a charge ..or..the on board charger is not working...right??
