The lights on the bars were required by the DOT as the ones you asked about are to low to meet the standard required. You could wire them up if your charging system will support the load...

We need more information. Does it turn over (stater motor runs) and just won't fire? Or does it not even turn over? It's not real clear to me right now. It is likely not the carb. People on here for some reason like to replace those as their first guess but it would have to some how be physically damaged in order to be bad. Answer the questions above and let us know if you did adjust/check the valves in the last 1000 miles or so...
