... Cops seem to be above the law in every case against them that I've seen. I hope justice prevails in this case and these cops go to prison where they belong. - % of the cops are good. The problem is that the good cops cover that 5-10% instead of throwing them in prison for their felonies. When caught they sit home while still getting their pay, and the worst penalty is they are dismissed from the force. One of my parents was a police officer for the Los Angeles county sheriff's department, and I could tell you stories that would make you sick. I don't know about where you're from, but the LA county sheriff's office is riddled with corrupt cops. At least it was. I don't know if they've since cleaned house, but I can't imagine they've cleaned up much. The worst thing you can do when a cop gives you an order is to defy him in any way. You will be instantly guilty of contempt of cop and are subject to a pretty good beating if they get their hands on you. Police have WAAAAAYYYYYYY too much power and authority in my humble opinion. There needs to be a LOT more oversight into their jobs to reign them in. In most cases the police are NOT your friends. Ask any cop out there. They'll tell you it's an "us verses them" mentality for the police. If you do have a run in with the police, I would recommend following ALL of their orders (no matter how ridiculous), keep your hands in plain sight at all times. They get very frightened when they can't see your hands. Fear causes anger. Anger leads to a beating or worse. Better to suffer a bit of humiliation than to get a beating, a trumped up charge, and a stay in your local jail, or a trip to the morgue.

Jeeze! I can't believe he settled for a mere $200k. I would have sued the city into complete bankruptcy. I would OWN the city of Philadelphia after something like that. The mayor would be my personal servant.
Good luck getting a conviction against the cops. Cops seem to be above the law in every case against them that I've seen. I hope justice prevails in this case and these cops go to prison where they belong.

Dang! After reading about multiple bad experiences with those guys, I think I'll be skipping any business with them. To me your posts are pure gold! Saving me time and money! Sorry you had to take one for the team though. Shame on those who intentionally do bad business and provide bad service. The only thing you can do is stop doing business with them, and make sure everyone else knows not to do business with them. When their customers dry up and the money stops rolling in, they'll scratch their heads and wonder what it is they're doing to run em off.
Let me pump the brakes alittle. Overall they are a decent provider. They have a lot of items no one else sells, and very reasonable prices on some items. They typically also have quick shipping times. You just have to be 100% sure you are ordering the correct part. As for the customer service, maybe we caught someone on a bad day. Others swear by Scrappy Dogs. My experience happened when I first got into scooters. Now I am much wiser about shopping around for sellers and not worried about shipping times when ordering spare parts. I hear what you're saying and I can certainly understand your feeling about a dealer that seems to have what you need and when you need it. I get it. They have stuff that hardly anyone else has, and for prices that are probably hard to beat. I can't fault anyone for doing business with someone who has what they need.
On the other hand, I've spent the last 25 years of my life dealing with people, and doing my honest best to provide them with the best customer service experience that I can possibly give them. Even when they're hopping mad. ESPECIALLY when they're hopping mad. That's the time to really shine and resolve the issue and make them happy again. That's customer service. That's good business. I don't tolerate companies (even supposedly good ones) that don't take the time to make sure they're providing the BEST customer service possible to their customers.
When it's my turn to be the customer, I expect a lot. We should all expect a lot. For all the annoying advertising, and pushing endless sales pitches in our faces about how good they are, and how we just can't live without their products, well they'd darned well better live up to the hype. All too often I run into businesses that just don't care. And I go out of my way to boycott them. I buy American stuff when it's at all possible. I will also boycott businesses who cut out American jobs, and outsource their customer service to places like India and the Philippines.
End rant.

kids i presume, they shouldn't be allowed in public unsupervised. anybody with half a brain wouldn't attempt to steal a scooter. Or steal anything else for that matter. And I agree that kids shouldn't be allowed in public unsupervised. I tell my wife all the time that starting at kindergarten, kids should be in school 12 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year. Kids should only be allowed out under close supervision, and should only be seen and never heard.
That's my 2 cents anyway.

Take the center stand OFF! That is usually the offending piece. It is completely useless unless you want to work on your bike. In that case just put it back on. Only 2 bolts to deal with. Then you can take corners as hard as you want. I need my stand. Offhand, I can't check my oil without it! Checking the oil is a good point. I can reach my dipstick while sitting on the bike. So for me it works out. But your ride may very well be different.

I'd like to see someone like Burt Munro run a beefed up scooter out on the salt flats and set a scooter world record. So far scooters seem to be discounted by the mainstream. I think if someone with a love of scooters and speed were to step up to the plate, then scooters might be taken more seriously. As far as I know no one has yet to run a scooter on the salt flats for any kind of a record. Heck, I should go out there and run my 250cc just to be the first to set a recorded time with a scooter! Here's a blog posting about one such attempt: El Mirage Conditions Uncooperative but Scooter Land Speed Records Established Anyway That's awesome! I love it!

You could get killed walking your doggy. A stray meteor could strike you in your living room while you're watching the telly. A girl I grew up with got killed by a train when she tried to cross the tracks at the wrong time. She was only 13 years old. Another childhood friend of mine blew his own brains out with a shotgun 21 years ago on his parents sofa. He was only 19. Death comes in many forms and by many causes. I'm not going to live my life wandering through the wilderness with an umbrella over my head pretending to stave off the cold hand of death. If I get killed riding my bike then I'll have died in the act of doing something I truly enjoyed. I worry little about the endless possibilities of death. When your number is up your number is up. No amount of preparation is going to stave it off. The only real control you have over life is how you live it. Be happy. Enjoy yourself. Do that which gives you joy. Don't bother worrying about the unknown. Life is short. Don't waste it worrying about death.

Wow man! I'm really glad you're okay! I live in Phoenix as well, and I was out riding in it yesterday between Scottsdale and Phoenix. I can't believe all the rain. I didn't move here to get rained on. I like blue skies and sunny days. I have no idea what's up with all this Seattle weather, but it needs to GO! I know the valley needs water, but the Arizona state legislature should get off their duffs and write laws making it illegal for it to rain during the daylight hours.
In the time that I've been riding motorized bikes on the road I haven't had my incident yet. (KNOCK ON WOOD) I hope when it does happen it's a benign incident like yours. I'd be perfectly happy if nothing is injured but my pride. Get those new tires and have some safe riding out there!!

140/70-12? You want reliability? I use 145/70R12 car tires on my Honda Reflex 250 scooters. I've used other sizes too, but the 145/70R12 is closest to the stock scooter size as far as car tires go for that bike. And it does not negatively affect the ABS brakes. The first one I used I changed out after 35,000 miles... No, that was not a not a typo. Thirty Five Thousand Miles, and it could have gone at least a few thousand miles more but I wanted to try another size car tire. It's not nearly as crazy as it sounds initially, but it does handle a little differently of course though it is easy enough to adapt to. In the 6 1/2 years I've been doing this, there have been at least 33 other folks with a Honda Reflex or Big Ruckus scooter (that I know of, but there may actually be more... I'm sure) that have gone and put a car tire on the rear of their scooter.... Several wished they had known about doing it a long time ago. Most have said they'll never put another scooter tire on the rear again. BTW, this is only for the rear.... the front needs the rounded profile of a stock bike tire on the front. It is worth considering, but you still might want to do some homework and research it to find out more about it before you decide. Cool idea bandito! I'll look into it. In the next 2 weeks I'm going to definitely be putting some tires on the scooter and I'll give it real consideration. Right now I have a few other fish to fry and then I'll get on the tire issue. I'll let you know in a couple weeks what I did with it.
Thanks!
