looks sweet... congrats. I have a 30" inseam so tall bikes are big problems for me... with me it's not about flatfooting them, it's getting my dang leg over 'em. My 1500cc Goldwing is almost too tall.

also check the intake manifold for cracks.... and look for other assorted vacuum leaks.

In the scooters, I've always just used Castrol dino. In the goldwing... whole different animal. They seem to like Rotella (at least the 1100 does) or Dello (the 1500). I tried Castrol Dino 4t oil in the 1100, and the trans didn't like it much. The trans seems to like the Rotella much better for some reason. It shifts smoother with fewer false naturals. Old goldwings like a firm toe when shifting, and with the Rotella I don't have to be quite as firm. Yeah, I don't bang shift her either (although I have once or twice just to see if I could do it), I ride it pretty gently other then that. You just don't push too hard on Vintage bikes.
Everyone says, don't use synthetic with a wet clutch (you don't worry about that with a scoot, they have a dry clutch), because the friction modifiers will make the clutch slip. Rotella is different as it does not have the friction modifiers (or so I'm told), same with Dello. Both are designed for diesels.
keep in mind the 1100 has about 46k on it (considered low mileage for a '82 wing), and the 1500 has 105k (about normal for an '89 wing) I'm probably going to try a good 4t oil in the 1500 next oil change. The 1100 will stay with the Rotella, simply because she likes it.
The Jimmy (a '91) has been running Kendle synth blend, and the ridgeline had been running Kendle, until this last oil change. Jiffy lube had Rotella so now it's running that. I don't like Pensoil. It really goops up, if you ever blow a head gasket or at least it used to. it had something to do with the additive package they were using.
I think it's way more important to change the oil, then what it's running on the gy6's. Do it every 500 miles, and you won't go wrong... I used to do my air cooled VW every 1000. Same set up, sump screen, and no filter.

Thanks for the Bone, Leo... I too am impressed with Aprillia quality. Every bit solid and refined. My 500 had 48K on the clock and still going strong and wow what a great freeway ride, even if it was unwieldy in parking lots.
I do love my 1500cc goldwing, but it's got rattles, etc... but then again, 105K, and it's an '89... so yeah, there is that...
Riding is for the young at heart. My roommate owns a tow company, as a result, we have two tow trucks in our door yard, most of the time. Had an old dude, needing his trike towed, knock on the door the other day. We didnt tow it, as our roll back was down, but, he did bring it by later. I found out it was his first bike, and he had just got it three months ago. He was 72... I hope I'm that young at 72! It was based on a Harley and man, it was pretty.

All cool bikes... I'm not worried about them making it to the states... I'm more worried about them making it to the "People's Republic of California".
Some of the Royal Enfields have made it to Cali, and I can't wait until they hit the used market... Hopefully at a good discount.

The only problem with all of that is...... Was it running? I think these motors are interference and if they loose valve timing, pistons hit valves and cause all sorts of nice things to happen. I would think about pulling the head and make sure the valves are ok and not bent.

Btb, you'll probably end up needing to find another scoot, once the missus catches the bug riding this one.... >'Kat All he has to do is put it in a dark corner of the garage with a cover.... it will multiply on it's own. Bikes tend to do that. I own three now..... and I'm looking at a forth.

in indiana, the skill videos i've seen do not recommend riding 2 abreast, but instead riding in a staggered formation. this is essentially single file except every other bike rides on the left and right sides of the lane. It's the same here. One second following distance in a staggered formation is what they recommend here. You still have your two second following distance between you and the bike you are directly behind. I don't know if it's even legal here to ride 2 abreast. I know it's ok if you pull up next to a motor cycle in the lane at a stop (another thing I don't do unless I'm riding with people I know)
