A bit of a long story here and I will try to keep it short. About 8 months ago my Father 86 years old had a mild stroke, He has since recovered and is doing better than ever. Yet, as a result he lost his Drivers license and then my brother got involved and has been systematically striping him of his personal freedoms and control. He has my Father trapped in a house with nothing left to himself but a TV to watch all day and all alone. Yesterday, I took Dad to the mobility scooter store and I got him a brand new EW-36 three wheel mobility scooter. It is electric and capable of 18 MPH with a max distance of 45 miles. If it had a GY6 motor, nobody would know the difference between it and a regular trike scooter. No license or registrations required because it is a MOBILITY scooter. Check it out, search your browser for EW-36.

I understand all about these scooters as toys and I do have so much fun on my scooter. I have been a custom car, hotrod and restorer as well as an engine builder for a few of the SCORE off road racers and doing things such as cam dialing, zero decking piston and cylinders, fly cutting and cc'ing/porting heads... really getting into the heavy dirt is fun for me. I have been doing this stuff for longer than I can remember. Then about a year ago a neighbor shows up at my door with this scooter that did not run and he wanted a 50 for it. By that evening I had it running and on the road,,, I have a total blast with it and I have a real itch to turn this thing into a road warrior. I had some medical issues about 4 years ago and had to take a step back from everything that I was doing. Now I feel strong and healthy,,, basically a new life and I am just thinking that maybe I may have redirected my passions. I envision myself going hog wild and low and behold,,, a full on custom road warrior scooter may evolve.

The cam tensioner is just that, a tensioner, it only pulls the slack out of the cam chain. With a slip fit cylinder, not every cylinder will be exactly the same hight, in fact it wont be the same from one engine to the next. From the mating surface of the cylinder base to the head deck of the cylinder could be as different by .001 to .010 in. from one cylinder to another. This difference will be seen at the camshaft to crankshaft centerline dimension/length. With the camshaft at the top of the head and the longer or shorter cylinder hight, the cam chain tensioner only pulls the chain slack out of the chain but it does not adjust for differences in length. This would explain why installing a particular camshaft into a gy6 150 engine and having awesome results, then installing the exact same camshaft into another gy6 150 engine and have very little results or none at all. Dialing in a cam zeros in the camshaft lobe centerlines per manufactured specifications to the crankshafts exact TDC. What I am trying to get at is about degrees of rotation of the crankshaft to the camshaft which could vary by as much as +/- 0-5 degrees or more at the cam. Major power gains or losses can be had with as little as +/- 1 degree off cam centerline. I know the cam manufacturers for these engines do not give out there cam spects so I would have to retrieve my own cam specs from the particular cam that I am interested with. Then with the specs that I get from that cam, I would need to use a computer based program such as Desk Top Dyno, input my cam specs and run the program to find the optimal cam dial-in for best possible engine performance.

I have been considering putting in a new cam and I was wondering if anyone have ever dialed in the cam on one of these gy6 engines. I know these engines are chain driven cams and the cam gear is pressed onto the cam. I also know that all these engines are not created equal. One gy6 150 engine is not the same as another gy6 150 engine. They all have slip fit cylinder jugs and that tells us the head and cylinder deck hight from crankshaft centerline will be different from one engine to the next. With an overhead chain driven cam there would be no way to accurately zero in the cam for every engine.

If your fuel tank is above the carburetor at the back of the bike, you may have a vacuum operated petcock valve. I had that exact same problem with mine.
I removed the vacuum petcock and installed a regular manual fuel petcock valve and that worked awesome!!!

710 cap???

The other day at work, a new hire comes in and lo and behold he's working with me on this particular day. He is a young kid with all the answers just out of the latest automotive tech skool. after about an hour or more of listening to him tell his stories of his latest and greatest achievements to be noted in the automotive archives of history.
I was at a point of adding the engine oil and firing it up. Wouldn't you know it, everything went well during the assembly and everything was there up until the very end,,,, The 710 cap was missing!!! I asked my new hire assistant if he would not mind heading to the parts counter and have Norman get him a new 710 cap.
Off he goes to see Norman at the parts counter,,, a few minutes later he returns,,, good old Norman sent him back to me for some vehicle information and to take the information and the request order for the 710 cap to the shop foreman.
While the new kid was off on his search for the 710 cap,,, I found the missing 710 cap (OIL cap) and fired up the engine.
About this time Norm and the shop foreman come over to me and told me that they sent the new kid to the parts store in town for the missing 710 cap. Ya,,, we shared some laughter!!!
About 30 minutes later the kid arrives back from the parts store....... there was nothing but silence from him,,, he didn't say a word to anyone the rest of the day!

Thank you alleyoop!!! I was also not quite sure what gy6fandan was getting at and the possibility of something in the cylinder under the head kept me from writing something like " go ahead and fire it up ",,, LOL!!!

I hear talk about fuel pumps and I just don't get it,,, Maybe I had something different,,, I don't know.... I ride mostly open hilly highway 50-60 mph with my scoot. A few months ago shortly after I got my scooter I noticed at WOT cruising down the highway I would loose fuel to the carburetor after just a mile or so. I determined that it was the fuel pump going out so I replaced it with a new one. The trouble continued! I was a little confused at this time because I had never seen a vacuum operated fuel pump before. I have been a custom hotrod car builder and antique automotive restorations guy all my life. A vacuum operated fuel pump? I just had to find out more about this so I took my old "pump" and carefully opened it up. Just as I had suspected, it is not a pump at all! It is only a vacuum operated fuel valve!!! Here is the deal,,, at WOT, intake manifold vacuum drops to less than 1hg vacuum,,,at this point the carburetor is operating in much the same way as grandmothers perfume spray bottle,,, Airflow and not vacuum. 1hg. at the manifold is not nearly enough to keep a fuel valve open or any vacuum operated device operational for that matter (Remember grandpa's old Nash Rambler had vacuum operated windshield wipers and whenever he got on the gas pedal the wipers would stop,,, No vacuum!!!). Of course the valve would close shutting off the fuel supply and fuel starvation happens. This would not be noticeable in city and or bellow WOT. Out on the open highway at 50-60mph on a 10-20 mile ride and you have problems. My solution the what I was experiencing was just a standard lever action fuel petcock valve and loose the vacuum operated valve altogether.
I now get out on the open road and run WOT 50-60mph constant mile after mile trouble free and have been doing so for many hundreds of miles.

I am thinking to start doing some performance upgrades with my scoot. I have a 2005 Strada RX150TE with a 157QMJ engine. I have a good strong 1P57QMJ engine from a 2008 Rocketa MC-07. I have been trying to decide if I want to put an A-9 cam (to begin my performance journey) into the 1P57QMJ Rocketa engine (Much stronger engine to begin with) and install that engine into my Strada or just put the cam in the engine that is already in the Strada (157QMJ).
What do ya'll think would be the best for performance. Swaping the engines is straight forward and is a direct bolt it. I've had the Rocketa engine in my Strada to see if there was any difference (about a 45 minute swap). I will say the Rocketa Engine (1P57QMJ) is a screamer and will outrun the Strada's (157QMJ) on any given day of the week.

I just got back from a road trip to Iowa and along the way I stumbled across a can labeled "Ghost Chilies". On the can it say's it's the hottest chilly in the world according to The Guinness Book of Records 2006. Now I'm confused because it is a small 8oz. can, ok... diced or chopped maybe??? Not so, the can of chilies has a cardboard wrapper around it and it is only 5 big dollars. So I buy the can of chilies and put it away, Ill get after it when I get back home. Well, I'm home now and I have my can of Ghost Chilies and I am gonna give it a try. I pop the top open and to my surprise it is a can full of sand!!!!!! There is a piece of paper with it so I begin reading,,, apparently I am supposed to grow these friggin chilies in the can first before I can have a taste of the "Hottest Chilly in the World". It says I am supposed to baby sit this can and grow my own Ghost Chilies for up to 9 months... Let's me tells ya's people,,, If I am gonna baby sit this can of seeds for 9 months,,, they better be good!!!!!
That's all I'm say'n bout that!!!!! LOL

I think what I will do is use my GPS and mark my speedo lens at every 10mph increment. Once marked, I will then remove the speedo cluster and speedo clear lens. The new MPH marks will be on the speedo clear lens and I will use that to transfer, repaint and re-mark the MPH indications on the speedometers face. Re-assemble everything and clean off the speedo clear lens leaving a fresh and clean, proper MPH speedo that should be accurate by GPS standards. Maybe I will do some custom paint to the speedo face like flames or something while I'm at it.

I have a 2005 Strada RX150TE and the speedo is way off. Anyone have this trouble with their ride? My speedo is at least 10 to 15 mph faster than actual mph. What is the fix on this???
