hey
My scoot has a flat seat, long enough for 2 people and has passenger foot pegs. but I'm a big guy, 6'4" and 280 lbs, I sit near the back of the seat when i ride my scoot.
I tried taking a passenger on my scoot. not big, 110 lbs maybe, problem is, we got on the scoot i went half a block and had to stop. I cant safely ride the scoot with me sitting at the front of the seat. my knees are touching the handle bars.
i did some measuring, and i figured out with a little welding and fab, i can move the seat back 4 inches on the frame and it will only raise up 1 inch. Is this a bad idea?
Also what determines weight capacity of a scoot? specs say 330 lbs max. can i use stiffer springs to safely bring that up?

Not all Restricted scooters have the BOSS built up to limit the amount the variator closes, most just have a thick washer that you can just take out. Alleyoop good to know. The op didnt say anything about his variator, so maybe the washer is still in

i would guess the crank bearings are well worn by now. putting in a new top end is going to increase compression and but even more strain those bearings. clearly you ride the scoot a lot you want it to last another 100k, id get a new crank and rod.

i wonder how well a lawn mower muffler would work. could use one without support maybe. might be pretty loud but lawn mower engines are bigger then 49cc. would they have enough back pressure to not fry valves?

Glad i'm not the only one who thought the wind was scary. but i though of something that might be part of the problem. my scoot has a flat seat not one of those 2 part ones for a passenger, i like to sit near the back of the seat because im over 6 feet and its more comfortable otherwise my knees are too close to the handle bars. maybe theres too much weight in the back and it effects handling?
i really dont know but there are foot pegs you can get for this scoot (150cc ruckus clone) so you put your feet more forward.

im sure the filter location could be better but i think you have another problem if your getting gas leaking out of the carb. i mentioned the bad float valve already.
but now i am wondering, you say you adjusted air/fuel mix, did you turn a screw mounted sideways on the carb or one mounted down. if you turned the one mounted down that's your drain screw, tighten it back up

is there enough metal around the hole so you drill and tap it out bigger and put in a heli-coil? shouldnt be hard to do its aluminum.

if you get gas out the overflow the classic problem is float valve not sealing properly when float is up. you could have a piece of debris on it or its just not sealing right for some reason.
happened to me before i had a sharp peice of debris stuck on the float valve after reattaching the fuel line, normally filters stop stuff getting in but it got contaminated some how. it was on a car but carbs are carbs right?
edited i got terminology wrong

It has 12" wheels. but it looks like theres 2-3 inches between the tire and engine case i wonder if 13" wheels and tires would fit? looks like there would be plenty of room, just move the fenders.
though, is it really 12" wheels or does riding on the highway with a little wind just take getting used to?

i'v only had my 150cc scoot for 150 km, before i had a 49cc (with bbk) and never took a scoot on the freeway
riding today i realized to get where i was going, Id either go through 2 miles of the 20 mph city streets with lots of lights or a half mile on the freeway. so i chose the freeway. I was thinking how bad could it be. with a slight down hill i went WOT and the scoot topped out at 70 mph (indicated)
thing is, that was the scariest ride ever. its not a windy day (says 5 mph on weather) on but it felt like the wind blew the scoot around way too much. i felt like i could lose it at any second but i didnt want to slow down b/c it's the highway i don't want to end up under a semi. going up the off ramp was a huge relief.
does this match your experience riding on a freeway on a scooter. if so is it some thing you get used to?

Around here the local Vespa club allows non-vespa riders on rides, even motorcycles and cars can go. Might be worth looking into that, maybe a classic scooter club will still let someone on a modern scooter join in on a ride.

i agree you may be over carbed, and with the cone air filter on instead of air box, you will get too much air and i think you will hav vacuum problems too. might hook a vacuum gauge to the bike and see what readings you get.
also are you sure the idle isnt 1250-1500 (these engines have waste spark so they fire on every revoltuion, th tach should be set to accommodate that.)
