I couldn't just have the Vespa and its too nice to mod so I also picked up a Eton 49cc 2-stroke, so I guess I can post here again It's a JOG motor, looking forward to tinkering with this one, I see there are 54mm (90cc) BBK's for these

Hey all, old thread but I thought I would add that I solved this problem... I saved up all winter long to buy a bigger scoot and last week I sold my 150cc Ruck clone. Maxi scoots aren't my thing, I like traditional scoots, though I did sit on a few. Then finally I sat on a used Vespa GT and found the right match of scooter styling, power and size, so I bought it. The GT is the biggest traditional scoot I sat on and I knew before I even got on that it was different. Love it and love how it rides too. However it is water cooled so I guess that means I can't post on this subforum anymore

I used to have a 49cc with BBK, did not make a lot of difference at first, but what really opened up the engine was an A9 cam, was only around $30 and think I bought from that same seller. I played with jets, air filters and I dropped down to 5g rollers which took advantage of the higher power band on the cam, took months to get a good tune on that scoot. Ultimately it was just not quite enough power so I went 150cc.

it's fixed (maybe?) and runs great now. I was so convinced it was fuel. I had a fuel problem last summer and thought it was just more of that.
I went and looked at all those connections, unplugged and replugged everything, the coil mount was loose on the frame (it does not get ground there does it?) and tightened. Then I pulled the plug and it looked a perfect golden brown color. However the plug was pretty loose, could that have been the problem all along?
However being an intermittent problem its possible that my messing around didn't do anything, time will tell.

It is a ruckus clone, tank is in the floorboard so fuel is pumped.
Good suggestions with the ignition parts, I will pull the plug first and check but if it looks good, and connections are all good, I may as well just buy new ignition parts, I checked prices and was shocked how cheap they are.

gy6 150cc chinese scoot, less than 1000 miles on engine
Idle is great and runs great at light throttle but at 1/2 and up and especially WOT it feels weak and may sputter (you can both hear and feel the sputter, like a misfire), power is down too, not bogging just not quite as strong as usual. I read this is classic over rich condition but unsure.
problem is that this is intermittent. It runs great for a couple months then craps out like this for a few days, the problem always seems to fix itself, and I forget about it for a while until it happens again.
there is no rhyme or reason (not related to fuel level, weather or anything else I can figure). But its happening now so just wondering what could cause intermittent running like its rich, or maybe hints on what the problem might be if not actually running rich.

Hey
My scoot's hand grips have this chinese toxic death smell, if you aren't sure what I am talking about go into a harbor freight, the whole store kind of smells like it. I read its the off gassing from rubber. in my case the smell is so bad it stinks up the whole garage.
I read that the smell goes away but its been a year and it's still there. I have washed and scrubbed the grips, left the scoot out in the sun, nothing helps. I do wear gloves most of the time but any time I don't wear them or just move the scoot around the garage without gloves then my hands stink too. it doesn't even wash off my hands, takes days, whatever it is, it must soak into my skin. I would buy new hand grips but I worry they will stink too.
Anyone know what I am talking about, and suggestions on how to get that smell out?

Thanks i took the top off th carb the diaphram was fine. the float bowl has security screws on it need to be drilled off or cut a slot. thought id try that later. instead i put a copper wire through the main jet from the top in case its dirty then shot some carb cleaned thru the main jet
well i went riding and no different, then a mile away the scoot lost power, then died and did not restart.
i check hoses wires all seem good and tight, open fuel tank, gas in there. then try to start again scoot fires right up and now running great like before. was it some thing in my carb that blew out or was it electrical and when i move wires it fixed it, so i am totally stumped now

Hey
Had bad wether here for about a week and a half then was out of town and didnt ride the scoot for 2 weeks. it was running great before, i did not do anything to the scoot in those 2 weeks.
today i start it up, it is running pretty bad, went right to the gas station and filled the tank up, no difference. i rode a while hoping it would fix it self. once the engine was hot and it ran a little better, but still not right.
so idle is good. light throttle is ok. full throttle is ok, power seems a little down not much, though it does hesitate a little, maybe a cough or sputter then it goes.
the biggest problem seems to be cruising, part throttle it runs terrible, sounds terrible, not even rideable, i basicly switched back from light or full throttle all the way home otherwise it seemes like it wants to die.
what do you think it is, again i did not do anything to the scoot, its a 150cc new this year only about 300 miles on it.

whoever designed my ruckus clone thought it was a good idea to put the battery under the seat, it was a horrible idea because ruckus is suppose to have nothing under the seat, part of the appeal. the battery looks really stupid there.
a real ruckus has the battery in the box up front on the stem. but mine has big heavy 7AH lead acid and it wont fit.
i'm looking at "ballistic battery" which is a LiFePO4, much smaller and lighter and should easily fit in the box.
any one have any real world experience with these. would like to know how they work under stress, like if you run out of gas you have to crank the engine quite a bit, no problem for lead acid but would it stress a ballistic battery.

I parked next to a guy on a piaggio BV500 today a really big scoot. we got to talking for a while and he let me sit on it. yep, still cramped. Gonna be a long search for a big enough scoot.

funny thing is I had a kymco 50 before this 150cc ruck clone and we actually both fit on the 50, though it was tight it did not feel unsafe. it was slow of course but rideable and seemed to handle us ok.
i like the look of that aprilla, looks like a regular scoot, but still the seating position worries me, with those 2-level seats there is just one seating position for driver. it looks like i will have to go to an actual dealer next time instead of order and have it shipped.

Its a 150cc ruckus clone, with engine set back already. the seat can go back 4 inches and still be in front of the center of the rear tire. I could buy a kit to set the tire back even more. i bought the ruck clone in the first place b/c I knew it could be more easily modded than other scooters
I did some searching and found a 150cc scoot, same mfr as mine, with a curb weight of 295 # and capacity of 350 #. Thats 645 # on the output shaft. My scoot only weights 190 #. so with 380# on it you have less load on the shaft. I think that heavier scoot uses the same forks and breaks too. so all thats left is the frame and springs. wondering if I can strengthen either.
I can't afford to upgrade now I just bought my scoot brand new like 2 months ago, has only 200 km on it. I'm stuck with it until at least next summer. just trying to make the best of it.
but even with a 250 even though it would carry the weight, i would worry about it still not being enough room for me and a passenger. scooters are one size fits all, they can't make them too big or too small. and they probably don't have guys like me in mind when they make them.
