whoever designed my ruckus clone thought it was a good idea to put the battery under the seat, it was a horrible idea because ruckus is suppose to have nothing under the seat, part of the appeal. the battery looks really stupid there.
a real ruckus has the battery in the box up front on the stem. but mine has big heavy 7AH lead acid and it wont fit.
i'm looking at "ballistic battery" which is a LiFePO4, much smaller and lighter and should easily fit in the box.
any one have any real world experience with these. would like to know how they work under stress, like if you run out of gas you have to crank the engine quite a bit, no problem for lead acid but would it stress a ballistic battery.

I rode an electric bike for 4 years. Started out with big heavy SLAs, then upgraded to LiFePO4 and highly recommend them, with one caveat. I went cheap and didn't get a BMS (battery maintenance system), big mistake. When charging, if each cell isn't brought to level individually, the imbalance will cause others cells to fail due to overcharging. That's where a BMS comes in (you can also use single cell chargers, but that usually requires opening the battery up at least weekly). Most modern LiFePO4 batteries have some form of balancer/BMS built in, make sure yours does and you'll be very happy with them.

That looks good, and the description does mention it has a balancing system. "an internal microprocessor controlled cell balancer for added performance and battery life"
