My scoot's hand grips have this chinese toxic death smell, if you aren't sure what I am talking about go into a harbor freight, the whole store kind of smells like it. I read its the off gassing from rubber. in my case the smell is so bad it stinks up the whole garage.
I read that the smell goes away but its been a year and it's still there. I have washed and scrubbed the grips, left the scoot out in the sun, nothing helps. I do wear gloves most of the time but any time I don't wear them or just move the scoot around the garage without gloves then my hands stink too. it doesn't even wash off my hands, takes days, whatever it is, it must soak into my skin. I would buy new hand grips but I worry they will stink too.
Anyone know what I am talking about, and suggestions on how to get that smell out?

Took me a few MONTHS to get rid of this "WD40-ish smell.
Best was to spray with windex liberally and wipe the grips with paper towels. you will be amazed how much dark crap ends up on the paper.
Take heart - it DOES eventually go away, and Windex makes a pretty good difference.

Go buy good quality grips and replace them , and see if you can put vibration dampers on while your at it

I love the way HF and my scooter smells..change the grips and tires,,it wont smell for much longer,,at least it wont be a strong.
The local Honda,Kawasaki,Suzuki,Yamaha shop smells even better.......

geh3333 I will buy the old ones from him just so I can use them as air fresheners in my truck,,love that HF Chinese rubber smell,,smells like new scooter,parts,and tools to me...am I the only one..lol

xyshannen Yup,,nothing smells better than a two stroke running on some castor oil blend,,I was running some in my scooter for a while to help the top end lubricate,,I would put 1oz into the tank,,Mmmmmmmmmm smells so good. When I was little I liked the smell of gas so much I got in trouble for sniffing it a couple times...lol...lucky Im still alive after some of the stupid stuff I did
