You must,,, especially when you do your own work,,, I don't even know how many times I barked at the wife while I'm trying to put a wheel on or whatever,,, she has this thing for interrupting me while I'm working on my bikes,,, but I digress,,, life is in session and wife/ kids/ phone whatever can distract and divert attention away from the task at hand,,,, or stuff just works loose,, manufacturers have gone to nyloc axel nuts now,,,, I drill a hole and run a small clevis pin to stop the nut ,,, proper torque is also a must,,,,

Vermi,,,1000 hail mary's and 2400 our fathers to atone for this transgression,,,i beat this very thing over on SD more than once,,,you have to inspect and give the machine a walk around every time you get on the thing,,i check tire pressure every sunday morn,,,(once a week),,,a get off at speed can get ugly,,,really ugly if you're whippin 45mph and it goes out and pulls you into on coming traffic,,,at 45-50 going the other way,,,,you will not survive,,,and if you did you probably would wish you didn't,,,,, i have 10/11/12/13mm long handle open end combo wrenches set in my box so i can get to them easy and hit all the criticle bolts and nuts 3-4 times a month minimum,,,i don't reuse lock washers or nyloc nuts or cotter pins,,,i look for rust powder on frame and all other joints,,,(this means movement ),, i don't like pain,,,and is the biggest reason i never was a spy,,,they'd catch me and roll out the tools and i'd be singing before they got one off the table,,,, after all i am the biggest pusy on this forum and i have a reputation to uphold,,,,

they have neighborhood collection days here and set up spots in the back or side parking lots in grocerie stores like 3-4 times a year,,,and most auto parts stores or oil change joints will accept the drop offs,,usually less than 5 gals tho

Ok a non biased observation of your parts pics,,,this is not a cut on anyone,,,just what I'm seeing in the pics ok?,,looks like big valves set into standard valve seats,,,and also the boring on the cylinder is crazy off center by at least 1/8 if not 3/16ths of an inch,,,very minimum there will be hot spots,,,

That can be an issue and very well would explain the poor performance

In a full tank of gas put in an oz of marvel mystery oil,,,,that will richen it up a bit and cool it down till you can get at the carb,,,easy peasy baby ,,,,I keep a can of it around and when I know it's going to be a screaming hot day I put a shot in,,,both my bikes,,,I live in ca too and it gets ungodly hot,,,
