We should already be up in arms....all our money is going overseas.....But,....$6/gal. According to google £1=$1.5, so you're at about £4 a gallon by my calculations. We're at £7 a gallon, or 10.5 of your lovely American dollars. I'll just do some quick maths: I've done twelve shifts in my new job, at a gallon a day, so I've spent £ ($126) on petrol in three weeks (and that's just for work, I'm not counting all the little trips). There's ~5 litres in a gallon, so about £1.4 ($2.1) a litre, and only £0.4 ($0.6) of that is actually for fuel, the rest is tax. So we'll call it two thirds. I've paid £56 ($82) in tax, just getting to work. Up in arms yet?! Lol I'm so jealous of you guys. Ian.

Does anyone else find them self almost permanently angry at car drivers? I mean constantly, every time I ride, something happens, to make me so apoplectically enraged with retarded, glass and plastic death machine driving, **** nuggets I think I might end up having a stroke or high blood pressure or sommething before I'm thirty.
Take today. I quick ride into town, about ten minutes down the road, all residential streets, passed two schools, across one cross roads with lights, one roundabout and into a car park. I only had to pick up some oil for the scoot, and bits and pieces to make a cake for the Mrs coming home for the weekend.
I turned right out of my road and was clear in both directions. A 4x4 pulled out behind me and accelerated up to 50mph (in a 30), left me no space as they overtook me past the senior school, before slowing down for the lights at the cross roads (I assumed). As I pulled up behind it, about thirty yards short of the lights, it just slammed on the anchors, pulled in on double yellow lines (no parking, if its different in the US), and kicked out a pair of kids for the junior school, leaving me no option but to pull out around it in traffic or slam into the back of it. But why? Why not just keep the speed down and pull up safely, in an area where these limits and restrictions are in place to keep THEIR KIDS safe?
The rest of the journey was ok, and I parked up in the dedicated motorcycle parking space in the town car park, as far out of the way as possible, right by the bollards to chain the scoot to, went off and did my shopping. When I got back I had no choice but to watch from the other end of the car park as a stupid bloody middle aged woman reversed right into my scoot and just nocked it over! Luckily a passer-by tapped on her window and she got out and started picking the scoot up as I got there, but why?! Why didn't she just look out of the window, or take a glance behind the car as she got in?
If that's what it's like after a quick trip into town, imagine what happens when I spend over two hours for every shift commuting on it? Some times I'm lucky to be alive. The only hope we've got is ATGATT.
Hopefully I'm not the only angry dawg?

I wear full face, only cheap but conforms to government spec (22.05-I'm UK based). That's the good news about a nanny state: anything over £50 for a helmet and you're just buying features, the safety is always the same.
I have considered an open faced helmet for visibility, but if I can get a near perfect anti-fog solution, that won't be an issue.
Personally (now this is a PERSONAL OPINION, don't start a flame war), I'm wary of the flip-top modular lids. It would just take one Monday morning/Friday afternoon factory worker mistake and you could end up with a face plate turned to shrapnel, a hinge into the skull, bits falling off. I just feel there's less to go wrong with a standard full face.
EDIT: I forgot to add, never buy a used helmet. Unless it comes boxed, with all the tags and visor cover on, never been used, don't touch it. It only takes one drop, from barely any height, to render a helmet completely useless. You wouldn't even see the damage. Ian

I actually agree with that. I was lucky to get home this morning in the fog and low cloud. It was too cold to close the visor and too wet to keep it open.
I'm thinking of going with the pinlock DIY kit. I've got a spare helmet lying around so I'm not totally screwed if I mess it up.

Water in the carb? I wash mine before taking it to the garage every time, and rinse with a garden hose. They did a carb clean last time and it was almost full!

Yeah, that's why I was asking about MPG and tank size on your new best friend, I get 90mpg on a one gallon tank and fill up every day.
If it weren't for the cager pricks I wouldn't really need the bigger engine: I'm pushing 60 on the flat, and had it up to 75 down some if the steeper, straighter, longer hills. But the tards still want to do 75+ on 60 roads, and a bit more grunt up the hills would stop me feeling like a 50cc in a 40 zone.

I've always hated the needless use of anything petrol driven. Don't get me wrong, I love engines, and would work on them all day, if I hadn't gotten sucked into electrical engineering instead of mechanical. But for any journey on my own, of less than ~15 miles, I'll ride my push bikes, in any weather. For any longer journeys I've just used public transport, usually trains. As for luggage, my motto has always been, "if it wont fit into a rucksack, I probably won't need it". My wife and I have always owned a car between us, in four and a half years of marriage, I think I've driven it twice. Also, if you factor in the cost of motoring here in the UK, where you pay tax on your income, you pay sales tax when you buy the car, you pay Vehicle Excise Duty every year you own the car, you pay sales tax, and insurance premium tax to insure it, and there's so much sales tax and fuel duty on petrol that its up to £7 ($8-$10?) a gallon now, I really don't understand why people have two, sometimes three or more cars for each household so that each individual can drive twenty minutes down the road.
Unfortunately, having left the Navy and moved to country side, my new job is a 90mile round trip, and public transport in Yorkshire is...........lacking, at best, so I need an engine. I also needed it "cheap" and I needed it "now". So I got my little Patricia brand new on finance, and I've got to say, I've fallen in love with her. I'll only use the car when there's snow settled on the ground now, and when the finance is done, or the scoot dies, I'm thinking of moving up to a 250, maybe 300, and getting the Mrs into some biker gear on the back for some dirty weekends away!

Well that's the most stupid, unhelpful and down right backward thing I've ever read on an advice forum, of any subject.
While you're right that a direct correct answer is the easiest, simplest and quickest route to a solution, I doubt it's always the best route to a solution. Open debate, assistance in thinking through a problem, education on how to reach the correct answer yourself, are all far more useful, especially in engineering and defect rectification, than being spoon fed the answers all the time. There'll be a time when you're stuck without access to help from this forum, and the "process" of solving a problem is more important to you than a list of answers. Wrong answers are a part of that process.
If you don't want replies from everyone, and feel only a select few are worthy of answering your questions, don't post in a public forum.

What scoot are you on mate? Looks a little bigger than my 125............which does a 90mile round trip commute every day! Lol
But a nice long ride out just looking at the scenery and enjoying the road is always worth it.

14518 miles that's far too many for a china scoot id pass on it, then they say it runs, but needs pushed It only needs to be trailered or pushed because its been declared off the road to the tax man. Treat it like a project and put some time and effort into and it'll be fine. I doubt you'll get any kind of service history with it, so be prepared for scary sights when you start stripping it down. Www.chinesescooterparts.com (or web site to that effect) have been fantastic for parts for my Pulse, they're based down in Exeter but their mail order is rapid. I dunno where this "I wouldn't buy a Chinese scoot with more than 1500 on the clock" attitude comes from, seeing as the initial service period on mine doesn't end until the first 7000km. You've just got to ask the right questions and know what to look for, exactly the same as buying anything used. If its been run out of the box with no service history by some idiot child, pay them all for it. Simples. Ian
