wow, 5 failed crankshafts? splitting the case is something i'd rather not try. i've been thinking about getting a 150cc but if i can get 50+mph out of my scoot then i may wait awhile longer. my scoot has nearly 14,000km. i don't know exactly since the speedometer broke and i rode it for about 3 weeks before fixing. hopefully this old engine can handle the extra hp otherwise i will be stuck riding my bicycle to work until i get a new scoot. edit: just remembered; i've read over tightening the variator nut can damage the crankshaft bearings. maybe over torquing that nut with an impact is more to blame than a bbk. i don't know but it's something to consider. someone correct me if i'm wrong. Yeah a couple were from rebuilds, and a couple were from new engines. The first 2 were stock 50cc and the main bearings went out--- one was the oil pump side and the other was the variator side. With the bigger bores, the rod bearings went out. I guess it could be possible about over-torquing the variator nut. All I know is that the nut stays on after a few whacks--- I use an emergency impact that I got from Walmart, so I really have no idea how much torque is being applied(compared to Harbor Freight impact, may not be much difference). I actually thought that could be a possibility--- too much torque, and that's why I've actually considered buying a holding tool for the variator, to at least get it closer to the proper spec. What about shocks/front forks? Maybe I have too much jarring and excessive stress on the engine--- because my frame and shock has been the same since day one, minus the mount bushings I had to replace(not ON the motor--- the mount from the frame...)

If you can afford it, you may consider upgrading the crank. I have considered it greatly recently. My first crank failed at about 15,000 miles with a stock bore. The other four between 8-10,000 miles, and those include 63 and 72cc big bores. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, besides running it super hard at 100+ miles a week, maybe not. It's really annoying.

part dipping

That's really cool how it creates that "pattern" after being dipped.

Here's the one I have: www.walmart.com/ip/Schumacher-SpeedCharge-6-Amp-Battery-Charger/13005743MAINTAIN MODE: When the CHARGED (green) LED is lit, the charger has started Maintain Mode. In this mode, the charger keeps the battery fully charged by delivering a small current, when necessary. The voltage is maintained at a level determined by the BATTERY TYPE selected. I use the 2amp charge rate. I don't even keep it on all winter, or for even more than a few hours--- and only a handful of times throughout the winter, because I tend to ride (as long as the scoot is runnin, that is...) every so often when I can. No need to keep it on anyway, IMO.

I've been through 5 crankshafts and I've never really noticed any vibration issues. It was either an obnoxious knocking sound and/or the engine sounded like it was a diesel--- and there is a difference between sounds depending on which bearing it is.
I'm not sure what the spec of side-play is. There should be barely any, if at all, with the shaft in the video(which is junk). If your engine sounds fine and isn't louder, it probably isn't the crank unless it's just beginning to go out, IMO.

If I'm at a shopping plaza and I am stopping at a few stores, I may choose not to wear a helmet in between stores and parking lots. No big deal.

That's what I have--- a maintainer/charger. I love it and it was probably only $15 more than the popular tender on here.

I love wearing my full face all black helmet. It doesnt look stupid at all. It's plain and not too flashy looking. Stuff always seems to either get in my eyes or face without one.
For all the people out there that may laugh or think it's silly looking, there are surely just as many people who think it's idiotic not to wear one. I don't really care what Jr High and High schoolers think anyway.

I'm really considering, just to try, buying the round/cylindrical Dr. Pulley weights. I'd really like to see how major of a difference it is for how long they last before developing major flat spots.

Sliders seem to make the ride "smoother" overall. I had a much easier time maintaining whatever speed I wanted. Sliders last longer, but if you ride everyday they aren't going to last forever. I had my Dr. Pulley sliders for at least 6-8 months of everyday riding, and they looked VERY worn.
Right now I have the round rollers in. They don't really perform as good or last as long as the sliders, but I'm not heartbroken by any means, not having sliders in. It's not THAT huge of a difference, but I do like the sliders better.

So I finally had some more time to play with my 50cc scooter.. It seems to run great, but with my 250 lbs body on it I can only get it to abut 20.. 25 on a long straight.. So is it my weight holding it back or the cvt?? How can I tell if its working right?? I can tell you the rear spring loaded part is very tight and needs to be "open" to fit the belt on.. So is it supposed to "close" at speed?? Thanksw During acceleration, the belt rides higher in the variator (left pulley) and lower in the clutch pulley (right). It's normal to "open" the clutch pulley by hand to fit the belt deeper in there-----after you do that it gives you the slack that you need to put the belt on the variator side. Here's a perfect example of how it's supposed to act at speed:

I wonder if there are even any leaves left on the trees after all the WIND and storms that blew threw here today, in Indiana (and many other places, too). I know they aren't around my front porch anymore, lol.

I'm not sure if it's the audio or not, but that doesn't sound all that good-- from start to finish. Starter sounds a tad weak, I hear a bit of a clank(?) on start up, and it doesn't sound very healthy once the engine is running.
