Enjoyed reading this topic. Not all 150cc gy6 have this on them so if I am in the market for a new scooter in the future , I hope I can remember it all. Having the videos made it a lot easier to follow and understand what was deleted. Good job on the camera man. However you stated that you have a 108 main jet. Might have to do a carb tuning next. ALLY, thanks for being so patient. I would have lost it after the 2nd page.

I will start by saying that I'm no mechanic but have been learning a lot from this forum on making my scooter run. If your scooter needs that much choke, it means that it is starving for fuel, or it has a air leak some where between the air filter to the carb to where the fuel enters the motor. Check to see that a good fuel flow from the tank to the carb. If the flow is good then the jets may be clogged in the carb. Carb needs to be cleaned. If it still needs choke then check for air leaks between air filter and carb. May as well check the valve clearance too. It may sound like it is beyond your ability, but hey, we all had to learn, and it can be fun. I may get flamed by the seniors for stepping in to early, but this forum has good information if you have the time.

Its called modding. I guess it is suppose to look cool. Depends on how you ride or where you ride. I prefer mine covered with factory vent in the front and a outlet in the rear.

I remember the good old days too. My first bike was a Honda back in the 60's. Always getting scolded for riding that 'jap crap' instead of a big thumper. I survived many stupid bike crashes and tried different brands. In my stable today I have a Honda shadow'highway machine' .Don't ride it as often, and a H onda Ruckus with a 'Chinese junk' 125cc gy6 geared to max out at 50 mph. The scooter is my daily driver , step through, twist and go, and i enjoy tinkering with chinese motor. Life has been good and the world is growing , we just have to adjust.

I like to read about these common problems that we all have, and all the good replies. Myself included. One of the replies sugested valves, and I would also add a spark plug check or replacement. Being an older scootermaybe change fuel lines. I found that if you need starting fluid to start, then a good carb tear down and clean really helps. All this knowledge I have gained from reading on this board. Thanks to all scooter riders.

I try to ride every day when the sun shines. It sucks when it rains. Afternoons is usually a short 20 mile round trip, dump kitchen rubbish surf check, post office check for junk mail and bills then home. Don't mind wasting gas on a scooter compared to seeing allthe cagers with just one person inside going no where. Plus the scooter is a blast to ride.

I live outside the 48 states ( hawaii). A lot of vendors won't ship. SD will and have provided me with good service. I will order from Scrappy again.

So Alleyoop, you say the # 40 pj is too big and a# 35 to #38 would be better. I agree, but is'nt the pj for idle to say half throttle. How would it improve the gas mileage if the motor is been driven hard? I am very interested because tuning and jetting is a mind bender for this noob! Me.

Wow!!! Thanks for all the positive replies, I!'m glad that I 'm not the only one to have a relationship with my scooter. I could buy myself a new scooter anytime but to learn how these machines work is a wonder. Still learning about the gy6 for now.

My daily driver is a F350 ford truck that I bought in 1999 to pull my boat. Too big to run errands around town. I needed a 2nd set of wheels. So I bought a 2003 QUINGJANG 125cc 4t delivered to my door in a crate. I was told that they were disposeable, to just ride it till it breaks and buy a new one. So it was gas and go for the first couple of years and I did change the oil once or twice. It was always hard to start, but if I started it every day it would go,if I missed a week, it would take for ever to fire or drain the battery trying. I enjoyed riding it around town so much that the rides were getting longer. Could not find a scooter shop to work on my " piece of chinese junk" and I did not know much myself. Couple of years ago my 2 year old grandson came to visit,he could not talk at the time but would grab my hand and drag me out to the garage and make me take him riding on the scooter,no fear! what a bonding experience for us both. I decided to work on the scooter and make it into a 'skelly' the lights were not working also the speedo stopped at 12000kms and the plastics were zipped tied on. Found the old SCOOTDAWG forum, wow!!! Learned a lot. Thankyou thankyou. Changed the spark plug, fuel lines and even an after market air filter., learned how to adjust valves, wow, I was having fun. This is after almost 10 years of gas and go. This year I swapped the motor into a used RUCKUS frame that did not have a motor. The 125cc is still original and running strong and healthy. I did replace a carb ,another spark plug and a new coil and new tires.Learned that cleaning and rejetting the carb makes a big difference on performance. Still have the original rollers and BELT.That will be my next lesson. I t's not just a scooter any more. "ITS THE RIDE"
