I bet %+ of the population, including people in this forum, have called a scooter a moped at some point in their life. Lol. I have.

The DMV sees sedans, SUVs, cross-overs, wagons, sport cars, etc, etc... as motor-vehicles whether manual or automatic regardless of features and horsepower.
Instead of having a different classification for motorcycles, scooters and motor-driven cycles they all should be motor-bikes, not including the moped.
I'd also like to see the 'motorcycle' license renamed a 'motorbike' license with the same safety rules and skills required to own, operate.
With new designs, the line between scooter and motorcycle will blur so why the need for the separate classifications at the DMV and with insurance companies? Seems no longer necessary.

Honestly, the cops are very loose when it comes to their enforcement of these bikes... only once was i chased back when i was like 17... and i just hopped the sidewalk and went through a parking lot and hopped another sidewalk and he just gave up... but most of the time, if you arent driving like an , they really sont want to deal with the paper work.

I'm in love with the simplicity A Flying Machine Factory pipe and all I need to digitize may Dads 1949 Whizzer After i posted here last week... i rode it to work cause i was missing it.... still hauls boogie.... hits 45 on my phones gps. Had everyone at my job offering to buy it.... but ill never sell it. . Its my last resort mode of transportation with a motor on it.... if the car and scooter die.... this is always in my shead locked up and drained with the fluids in a gas can or container next to it... the hardest part of that scooter was weld sealing the gas tank to the front fork ... but not actually doint that part... it was stress testing the weld job which was the most stressful. I have added a set of old shock absorbers to the bottom of the seat. Where it is attaches to the bike... sincw hitting a bump on that bike is..... life altering to say the least It also had led light strips all over it..

It also had led light strips all over it.. This requires you to post another photo. A nighttime shot, naturally. >'Kat

So I see you liked my post, Mr Sunsett, but where's the requisite night-time all-lit-up shot?
(btb that really is a very sweet-looking moped!)

I rode a motorized bicycle for a few years, Mr Sunset. On occasion, I did 50 mile round trip commutes to work. Just an old Western Flyer with a 2 stroke mill similar to yours. I love your tank frame.

do you refer to your step through twist and go scooter as "my bike"? i remember needing some cooling help, and i rode out to some very rural junkyard on my 250. it was about a mile down a gravel rode, and i motored in there and ask them about some heater cores, i needed them for "my bike" they started asking questions so they could get a picture of what i had. it's a chinese 250 i told them. let's take a look they said. they looked it over and said that ain't a bike, it's a moped. but they did say it sounded pretty good coming up the road. i never got what i wanted. anyway, the thread is about your love for your "scoot", er moped. my baby, out back rusting it's guts out. i miss my chinese 250 so bad it hurts. Why is it out back? What's wrong with it?

spandi, i'm not sure what's wrong with it. something in the engine let go when i was cruising at around 60mph. the bike immediately ground to a halt. i tried a couple of times to start it, but the engine wouldn't turn over, it was locked up.
it was starting to get cold outside, so i covered it, and it sit there since. as much as i loved my ride, i was hesitant to put any more effort into keeping it road worthy. i wouldn't trade my chinese experience for anything, because i've learned a great deal about scooters from it.
it's been 3 years and the weeds have gotten up into the frame and i'm not too confident that it would be worth it to get it back on the road.
the local newspaper had a late model burgman advertised for 2 grand. it was sold before i even got the paper. i'll get another one, it's a matter of when.

[ I have added a set of old shock absorbers to the bottom of the seat. Where it is attaches to the bike... sincw hitting a bump on that bike is..... life altering to say the least not surprising since you only have, at most, 2" of rubber between the road and the rim. i would imagine you suffered a few bent, or broken, rims too. flat tires on these types of bikes are probably pretty common. one other thing, try not to ride it on sidewalks. this isn't out of respect for pedestrians, but for your safety. ride on the sidewalk, come to an intersection, then blow right through it. it's easy to do, and it can be deadly. a 45 MPH bicycle, sounds almost as fun as my 250.
