I'm having an issue on a 150cc gy6. Once it warms up it loses spark. The coil is known good as is the cdi box. Next thing would be the stator I'd think. Does anybody know how to check it?

Sounds like the pick-up coil, on the outside of the stator - remove fan housing, the little pickup should be visible at around 11o'clock on the stator - suggest replacing it

Here is where your pick up coil is: Alleyoop

Sure on the cdi, tried a known good one from another scooter and the same thing happens. I know where the pickup is, anybody know how to test it? I try not to throw parts at projects unless they have been tested bad.

I try not to throw parts at projects unless they have been tested bad. Problem with the pickup coils that fail when hot is that they will test out fine by the time you to remove the plastics to get a meter on them. It may take some time before it gets bad enough to show on a meter when they are cold. When mine started failing it took some months before it got bad enough to show on a meter. I ended up going with the matching orange coil and CDI set from Scrappy anyway for the better starting and a new ignition pickup and never had another problem on the spark side of things.

Charge coils looses power as they heat up. as the wire heats up it's resistance rises. All coils do this. The net result is a loss of power. If the coil is marginally able to produce enough power to run the cdi cold it will fail to produce enough power when it gets hot. Do a ohms reading on the coil cold and hot. Replace Stator to correct issue.

I agree with chihuahuas and rockynv. Both those coils coils can check out good when cold..but crap out when hot. When I see this happen on customers scoots most of the time it is the pickup coil..but there have been 2 times when it was the CDI wind on the stator. Lefty and chihuahuas showed ya where both coils are so run it till hot then check them. Do know you may not get zero voltage...you most likely will still get a tiny amount of residual voltage but not enough to elicit a spark. Here is a link to a post I made on the old site about testing the electrical system...should help you lots. scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=electricissues&action=display&thread=53915

Finally had some time to do some troubleshooting. AC voltage from the stator went from 107 VAC cold down to 16 VAC when hot. I couldn't get the scooter to loose spark again but from these numbers I have decided to order another coil and go from there. This is a 10 pole stator for reference.

Sounds like ya found the problem...surprised ya even got spark at 16 VAC...typically less than 40 VAC on customer scoots and I get nada for spark. Did you check the pickup coil as well? It may not matter though as you should be getting a new pickup coil with your new stator.

Yes, the pickup checked fine. I'm looking for a coil now. Trying to find one with the correct connector and wires, not one with pink wires.

Yes, the pickup checked fine. I'm looking for a coil now. Trying to find one with the correct connector and wires, not one with pink wires. Wire color is often irrelevant on Chinese products as they typically just use whatever color wire they have hand hand. So it can be a hassle finding which wire goes where. Most important is the correct number of poles and number of wires coming from it. Case in point...I ordered a Minarelli CDI. It has 5 wires...2 are in a connector so that part was easy..but not one of the other wires matched in color. So I saw that with the loose wires some were male and some were female....and that is how I got it plugged in properly. Took a few tries..but I got it..

Bumping this back to the top. Replaced the stator and pickup. Ran great, went out for a 15-20 minute ride. Scooter tested fine. Went out to start it this morning and have no spark again. I think it is the CDI, i am only getting a little more than 2 volts to the coil. Man this scooter is a scooter from .

Just tried a good known CDI box and only gettin 1.7v AC to the coil now? I'm lost...
Also The stator output is measuring 60vAC and the trigger is 2vAC
On more note, I tried a CDI that was a little smaller (AC) and a CDI that was a little bigger (DC). Neither of them worked.
