How's it going , I recently bought another new koso variator. This time I bought it from our friend john here on the forum. Here are a couple pics . the first one shows " from left to right " the first koso I bought a few years ago , one of two I bought over the summer , and the one I just received from john. If u look at the center of the variator on all three " where the boss is inserted" you can see it looks as if the koso on the left was cut down further or possibly of less an angle. The second pic shows that the newer Koso's are again a different cast possible a different angle " I never checked the angle between the two different casts. The weight of the two newer Koso's are also much heavier then the first . I haven't used the new one yet however I'm pretty sure what the outcome will be . these new Koso's do not allow the belt to drop fully in the variator. In the past I've never heard anyone mention this as being an issue so I imagine that they changed the Koso's cast to possibly match another variator brand " possibly a Dr pulley or another " this thread is not at all meant to put anyone's company down or hurt anyone's business in any way its only to show the problem others will have if they get one of these new koso variators. This is a koso problem not a problem with the seller. I should also add again that this is the second place I purchased one of these different casts. .

I should add , what to look at in the second pic is the edge of the variators. See how much taller the newer one on the right is compared to the first koso I bought " I say taller because of the way I have them laying side by side ". I think koso changed the casts because no one has ever had this problem until 2014. There was another member with the same koso problem over the summer.

I should also add that shipping was insanely fast from john and his attention to his customers is great.

Trying to understand - difficult from the photos I took your photo of BOTH variators and then clipped out to show just the one on the left, then flipped it and superimposed it onto the original photo. That way you can sort of compare the ramp angles. They look the same. Only diff I see is a slight height diff; and it just looks like the ramp on the new one goes further toward the center, with the one on the left going flat father from the boss. You could certainly compensate for that simply using spacers - and then ALSO get more ramp closer to the boss. Don't know if this makes any sense ....

The reason the edge of the ramp on the superimposed photo is "tagged" is i had to erase the backgound so you could see the new variator behind the flipped old one --- and you are paying me so little I kind of did a sloppy and fast job.
But I think you get the drift - ramp angles look the same

Also - looks like on both old variators your belt was not getting very near the outer edge.

Hmmmm,,guess i will steer clear of them new ones...I kinda like my stock one so far..something in the CVT gets real grabby when moisture is in the air and the scoot is cold,,not sure what it is yet...
Wonder why they would change something that was working good?

Also - looks like on both old variators your belt was not getting very near the outer edge. If you look close to the edge of the first variator there is about a little less the 1/8 inch left , the second seems like it climbed a little higher . those dark marks are from when my plastic v-slides where breaking and screwing everything up . the first variator isn't quite as bad since I caught it sooner but it still has a darker ring towards the top. Did u see the part of the variator I was talking about " where the boss slides in " ? I would hate to use spacers since my drive face will not be fully on the splines and may end up stripping out . my ncy drive face is a little wider then stock ",where it meats the splines.

The old variator actually does not show the dark lines , my bad . It all points to the new ones wider , the angle may be the same like rcq is saying. And it also seems as if the belt was rising up the variator the same on both . " that is just as high "

Well this is interesting I can see a cosmetic difference . I'm more interested in what difference in performance you find . Thus far everyone sold has been complaint free . In fact I fish for feedback the only negative feedback was some cosmetic imperfection .

In the last pics u can see the other side where the boss slides through . the newer one is beveled on the inside edge so it looks shorter , but they are the same .
