I FINALLY did it guys. I started on this project late last night and I worked on it all thru the day. It wasn't easy. My back hurts. My feet hurt. My knees hurt. My head hurts. I desperately need a tall beer...or three. I wasn't able to get the cover off of the handle bars. So that part is still red. But I got every other last spot. No more green beak. No more purple feathers. No more pink feathers. No more feeling like people are looking at me as if I'm the president of the FILM ACTORS GUILD while riding my scooter. I wouldn't be ashamed to ride this scooter anywhere around town now!

scootdude the new paint looks SICK man! I love the matte look. I'm still tossing around the idea of doing mine flat black with some glossy stripes and accents. Seeing yours makes me want to get it done even more.

And the bonus, you can always repaint it for the missus when she gets it. That's if she isn't so partial to flat black. Just getting rid of the creepy eyes makes it about a billion times better! Next question--what are you gonna do about the chicken foot? Btb, I bet the painter was also thinking, "Oh God PLEASE don't let this crazy-lady EVER tell anyone the name of who did this paint job!" >'Kat

Chicken foot is gone. Painted over. All remnants of that rotten paint job are history. And it so happens that the shop that painted that monstrosity actually left their signature "DEANO'S" on the front of the bike just below the windshield on the trim piece. That got painted over too. $2,800.00 she paid for that crapola pink and purple chicken. All fixed with less than $20.00 of supplies from my local auto parts store. Thanks Autozone!

Seeing yours makes me want to get it done even more. Thanks man! You should do it. It was really pretty simple. There's a lot of elbow grease that goes into it, but the actual idea of what to do is very easy. The tough part for me was making sure I was keeping the can the right distance from the surface being painted. Too close and you get runs, too far away and you just waste paint. I made a few mistakes, but I really don't care. Anything was better than pink and purple feathers. And for the most part it really turned out well considering it was my first ever attempt at painting anything like that. I took it for a long ride late in the afternoon just to soak up the feeling of riding around on something that didn't make me feel like an idiot. I stopped at a couple of local businesses just to marvel at it in the parking lot lights. This scooter is my main means of transportation. I don't ride just for funsies. I have a back up scooter, but I have no car to drive. So, for me, having something to ride that doesn't make me want to hide my face in shame is important. No man should have to ride around on a bike that has pink and purple feathers on it.

Woo-HOO!
As "Bonnie" said to "Clyde" after their movie romp in the tall grass; "... "You done jus' PERFECT!" Yup!
Seeing it in the light, I like it even more than at first! A marvelous way to finish up any scoot needing a facelift. It now looks very much like some of the new, sharp and seldom seen hotrod models from SYM. Even the neat aftermarket muffler now looks right in place! You've got a WINNER there!
I still think "Humongous" might be a good name... LOL!
I understand the scoot is your daily driver. One of THE best features of the GV is that mine, though well-worn, seems as drop-dead reliable as the family sedan... Always starts right up, runs great, never acts up. Mine gives me the impression that I just don't need to worry about it stranding me. I think of it as a good old car, on TWO wheels... LOL!
Enjoy that great new sinister ride into the "Parrot-Free" zone!

You can NEVER go wrong with flat-black. The "satin" finish paint is a little easier to maintain, but the flat paint does look particularly NASTY, with ATTITUDE and if it gets a little "beat" looking after a season or two, a quick re-spray with panels left in place, just using hand-held cardboard masks will fix it up in minutes.
Your idea to accent with glossy color is a good one. It's easier than ever today, with affordable automotive-grade vinyl. Many colors are available including checkerboard (which just goes perfect with flat-black...). You don't even need to mask and paint the glossy color if you don't want to.
And, if you can find some whitewall tires the right size, all the better! Total-flat black looks "modern" and flat-black with color, bright-color rims and whitewalls looks "rat-rod"... BOTH looks are WAY COOL on scooters, big-bikes or cars and trucks!
Since you like the look, I'd go ahead and do it!
Best of luck with the scoot!

Thanks Leo! I actually just NOW finished up working on the re-paint. I had everything done except for the handlebars. I unscrewed and unbolted everything I could find on the plastic covering, and something was still holding the cover on. It must be clips or something. I pulled, yanked, kicked, cussed and yelled but nothing worked. So I put all the screws and bolts back in. I took paper towels and covered up the parts I didn't want to get paint on, I sanded up the plastic, cleaned it and painted it up. Now the last of that horrible candy apple, feathered garbage is gone. Except for about 5 hours of sleep, a half hour lunch break, and a half hour dinner break, I've been working non-stop on that bike for the last 28 hours. I was on a mission from God to get rid of that horrible paint job. Tomorrow in the broad daylight I'm going to take a ride down the road and not feel like the south end of a northbound rhinoceros. I really am shocked at how well the overall job turned out. You really should see it. The pictures don't do it justice. My wife raved and marveled over it tonight when she got home from work. Pleased but tired in Phoenix, Scootdude

You've worked HARD and did a good job! You earned some sleep...
The Genuine Scooter Company (Buddy) for 2015 now has a factory model done up about like you have in mind... The "HOOLIGAN"... A factory "rat-scoot". Have a squint at what's rolling off the assembly line!
Just thought it might be a good "inspiration" for those wanting to do the same look.
The saw-tooth disk red caliper look great, but it needs whitewalls... LOL! And for the photo shoot, they should have laid it over on the side-stand with the front wheel cocked right for that "chopper-attitude" stance... I've done a bunch of bike photos "back in the day"... Yup! You're gonna LOVE ridin' that black cat!
Ride safe!

That Hooligan looks great! I'll take some more shots tomorrow in the daylight and post the finished product. I really did work my fingers to the bone! LOL! Every joint hurts. I guess I'm not 18 anymore. What a shame. 18 was great. Too bad I can't be 18 again and retain all the knowledge I've saved up at 43. What a combo that would be! Ha! Anyway... I gotta pass out. All work and no play makes Jack a TIRED boy. Tomorrow will be a play day. All day. No work. Just play. It's gonna be great.

congrats, scootdude.. That is how you make a scooter or bike your own. Bet you will find that when you park it, as you walk away, you will look back and admire it.

It is a bit of a shame to cover up such a good quality paint job. But it's a greater shame that someone didn't just paint that thing they even signed it! If it had just been the purple feathers, that as a girly-girl I could've lived with. But the beak was a big turn-off, and we've established the eyes were just creepy. As in really creepy. VERY really total creep-out creepy.
I'm not a fan of black (aren't as visible and show EVERY SINGLE GRAIN OF DIRT!!) but it does look like you did a great job on it. Enjoy the manliness of riding a non-birdy menace bike!
Oh, say, that gives me an idea! heh heh heh...
